[her eyes narrow a bit as he calls her 'doll', but at least he corrects himself fairly quickly this time. she shakes her head at his question.]

I'm from a land called Bamarre. I'm afraid I don't know what German is, but I'm assuming it's a country or nationality?

Bamarre. I guess we don't have one of those where I come from. It's probably better than Germany, though they do make an excellent sausage. And not much else.

[a pause. she doubts very much that it was worse than her home, but then she doesn't know about nazis.]

Germany is a very grim place, I take it?

It isn't so much the place that's bad, but who... controlled the territory. He's dead now, but people will be feeling the impact for a long damn while after. So yeah, it's got a ways to go.

[she can understand that, even if she doesn't know how vastly different the situation is from what she's assuming.]

It will... certainly take some getting used to, but I haven't found anything particularly objectionable as of yet.

Not particularly, huh? [ his mustache twitches in humor, one side of his mouth twitching up. ] I'll have to step my game up.

...Let me say this plainly. This is a large ship, which apparently has two other pilots I can speak with if I need any expertise in that area. It wouldn't be difficult for me to avoid you altogether if you're going to act objectionably. However, I would like to get along well with everyone here. Please don't put me in a position where I don't have that option.

My apologies. You'll notice fairly quickly that detecting humor isn't one of my strengths.
