[New crew! New upgrades! New world! ...And Varric in a coma for the duration of March, which is maybe slightly concerning.

For the other members of the Huntress, though, it should prove to be an interesting month.]

[ Yeah Chris doesn't appreciate anyone hovering over a magically-unconscious person, especially when it's someone he actually likes. When he comes into the bunks next to see Komaeda still there, that's enough. He moves over, grasps the back of the chair, and pulls it back and away. ]

Cut it out. Didn't anyone tell you it's not nice to stare?

[The abrupt footsteps and jerking of his chair startles his heart into his throat, and it's probably clear from his expression as he looks back and up at Chris that he is, at least momentarily, terrified. Old instincts die hard- while he might have been willing to die, it didn't mean he wasn't afraid of it, too.]

I- mean, isn't it better to keep watch on somebody in a coma? [Actually, now that he thinks about it...] Shouldn't he be under the care of one of the medical officers? Or at least in a room with more medical equipment?

[ The expression gets a befuddled reaction out of Chris before he lets it shake off when Komaeda speaks. ]

I am a medical officer, remember? I put him under all the ship's scans that I could when this happened. There's nothing else to do. He's fine, just... out.

... But why is he? [Komaeda turns back to Varric, eyes sliding over him as if checking for injury. There's none, he knows, but he can't shake the feel that if he looks enough, if he's clever enough, he can figure it out.] Is this something that happens a lot, here?

No idea.

[ Chris sighs and shakes his head. ]

Nothing I've heard about, anyway. He's not hurt, he's not in danger, he's just... sleeping. Like Snow White. [ It's almost funny that the dwarf fell under that affliction, but Chris can't bring himself to do more than give a lame grin. ]

[Komaeda inspects Varric a bit more, though of course they all looked over him when they found him.]

Maybe we should find a prince and see if that would work, then. [Komaeda offers a half-smile in return, and in that scant expression there's a hint of a tired, worn-down person who really, really just wants things to work out, somehow.]

Probably a princess in this case.

[ Isn't that how it goes? Whatever. ]

Look, if anything goes wrong... I'll do whatever I can to make sure everyone is okay. All right?

[ He's responsible for all you dorks, after all, even if the responsibility is a facsimile on part of the whole fleet format of the show. A captain is a captain and someone has to look out for these strangers put together. ]

... [Komaeda shifts his intense gaze from Varric over to Chris for a moment, scrutinizing him carefully. He thinks about how hard everybody worked on the island, trying to get along and play nice, and how one by one they picked themselves off. He thinks about his own role in that, from start to finish, and gives a little huff.]

I think you should put more faith in the people around you. Everybody on this ship is perfectly capable of... [Killing? That doesn't sound right.] That sort of thing can't just come from one person.

[Even a broken clock is right twice a day.]

[ Chris raises a brow at Komaeda's response. ]

I meant... peoples' augments were glitching out recently. Who knows what else might happen when we're not paying attention?

[He wants to let himself bask in that promise, however tenuous and conditional, of protection. But down that path madness lies- he already chose somebody to put his heart in the hands of, and he chose wrong. The wrongest. Then, idiocies of idiocies, he did it again, and he was wrong, again.]

Well, isn't it true that as a group we're better suited to watch over each other than just as individuals?

[It might give Chris some insight, albeit unintentionally, into what the hell Komaeda is staking out Varric's unconscious body for.]

Well, yeah, of course. Keeping each other accountable. [ He gives a half-point to Komaeda. ] Or... like a buddy system. Call me crazy, but buddying with an unconscious guy isn't much help.

Mmm, but you have Shirley, so.... [So, unconscious dwarf? Sure! Why not.]

... [Wait, didn't he hear something earlier?] Er- hang on, did we get somebody new? I was kind of spacing out, but now that I think about it, I did hear some hubbub!

Yeah, we've got another crewmate. [ Man, how out of it have you been, kid? ] He seems all right... probably a better buddy than Doc right now.

Ah. I'll probably- well, definitely- [like, come on, there's no way he wouldn't] run into him eventually.

Haha, but I don't know about that. I'm... a little rough on introductions, after all, though it isn't surprising of a total waste like myself. [He leans forward, resting his elbows on his knees, and covers his hidden hand with his good one.] Anyway, this new planet seems interesting, doesn't it?

Do you have any plans for visiting?

Yeah, I do. Looks right up my alley. In... a sense. [ That sense being they probably stock the kind of shit he uses more than most other waystations or planets might. ]

You going to tough it out here?

Oh, is that so? I hadn't realized, since you mentioned mobile phones. I guess it just means I'm getting more used to people having very different backgrounds, huh.

[He feels like he might have changed a little since coming here. Just a little, but....]

Ah, I might go down and check a few things out for myself.

Well yeah, I'm from somewhere modern but... you could say I've got an interest in herbalism.

[ Chris gestures vaguely as if toward the shuttles. ]

If you want to, I'll even take up Doc-watch.

Hm. I mostly just like tea, myself. I haven't had a good cup in quite a while. Still, I guess that does sound like something Mor would have in one form or another.

[Komaeda gives Chris a half-smile, standing up and stretching as he does.]

I don't want to be a burden, but if you're willing, I'll go take a look. Would you like me to bring you back anything while I'm out? [... hey, wait:] 'Doc?'

It's way more likely than coffee. You might as well try.

[ Oh good, it worked. Creepy kid is moving away from Varric for a while. ~~Nothing personal Komaeda, you are creepy.~~ ]

Nah, I'll pick up whatever I need next time I'm down. [ That gets a bit of a grin. ] You know, like the Seven Dwarves? Except maybe I should call him Snow White now.

[Pausing in the door frame, he tips his head this way and that.] I don't know if he'd like that or not. Like, I mean.... is that a sensitive topic for dwarves? I literally don't know. We only have humans where I come from.

[Nagito Komaeda: asking the big questions.]

Pretty sure he doesn't even have the story where he's from.

[ His head dips. ]

Besides, ones I know are pretty okay with it. Big part of their ancestral history and all.

... Come to think of it, I wonder what the various fairy tales of people's childhoods are.

[Komaeda's eyebrows furrow as he looks up at the ceiling studiously.]

Ah. Chris, you're so experienced! I think we're really lucky to have somebody like you onboard.
