open!
He hears it in his dreams, whispering beneath the screams of his people dying. He hears it when he's awake and trying to read. He hears it, but he doesn't quite... understand it, not until they're finally within range and he can afford to take a shuttle down. He can pick out words of Thalassian, snatches of Darnassian, and some other words from the shared common language both are derived from. But it doesn't quite make sense. He's still guessing.
What he does know is that planet looks really, really green and he hasn't seen greenery in person in like a year. He gets down to the planet by way of a shuttle so he can look around.]
[A.]
[And this is when his alchemy nerd comes out. Belth picked up herbalism and potions because he couldn't heal himself, and this land is teeming with plants he's never seen before. He wants to experiment on them. Badly. He has a little straw basket on his arm as he goes around investigating plants and flowers... sometimes sniffing them, sometimes clipping samples with a sharp pair of scissors.
He's got a pretty good stack built up, though, and then... suddenly roots and vines sprout from the bush he'd been inspecting.]
Aaaaah!
[THEY'RE REACHING FOR HIM OH GOD WHY. Still cradling his basket under one arm, he reaches for the first spell that comes to mind-- fire. Yes, torching the angry forest will surely calm it down.]
[B.]
[Belth knows better than to sleep beneath the trees here, but he's still feeling a bit wild. This strange forest reminds him of home. Giant living plants? No problem. Mushrooms as tall as skyscrapers? That's called Zangarmarsh according to the books he's read. He's not even bothered. When he thinks he's alone, he takes off his boots and his outer robes, leaving just his black long-sleeved shirt and trousers on.
Then he scrabbles up a tree, fingers and toes digging into soft teal moss. It's exhilarating to be brimming with mana and surrounded by nature in a way he's forgotten, and he can't help laughing a bit as he hops from branch to branch.]
A
Is that ... a fire? And Belthazar ... ? ]
-- Belthazar?? Are you alright?
no subject
Ino?!
[Fuck fuck fuck he is in a bad place. He backs up against a tree, his hand still outstretched in case the plants continue to attack... which is looking very likely. He just set them on fire after all.]
I, er, may have miscalculated a tiny bit.
no subject
Miscalculated how, exactly?
no subject
But, um, these ones are very persistent and... durable... and I set them on fire and it appears to have made everything in the vicinity very angry--
[There's howling. There is something howling what the actual fuck. He yanks his hood over his head as if it might hide him better.]
I've heard this before. Skinning a bear supposedly aggravates every bear in a forty yard radius. I thought it was just an anecdote so I barely gave it any thought. Until now.
no subject
She just sighs and reaches back to grab his hand, and uses the opportunity to poof them right out of that area and somewhere further away where ... hopefully things won't be attacking him??? ]
no subject
He holds onto her hand too, maybe a little longer than necessary. Everything is back to normal. Nice and peaceful and inordinately huge, but peaceful.
He peeks out from under his hood.]
... I think it's over. Thank you.
[AND THEN of course he checks to make sure he has his basket and herbs still.]
no subject
She's looking him over carefully ]
Are you sure you're alright?
no subject
I'm fine.
no subject
Good. Let's keep the fire away from the plants from now on, 'kay?
no subject
[He smooths down his hair.]
How did you do that? The... teleporting. Are you a mage?
no subject
[ She blinks ]
It's not magic, anyways, it's chakra.
no subject
[He's so confused.]
What is a ninja?
no subject
[ She looks a little amused now, at his confusion ]
Do you know anything about cells?
no subject
[This isn't helping. He missed a lot of the scientific shit in Exsilium. All the weird genetic experimentation came to light after he left.]
We have warriors with those specialties, too. They're called rogues.
no subject
No, no. Your body is made out of these little microscopic things called "cells". The energy they produce keep you alive, and as a ninja, you can also channel it to do other things. I've been teaching Hiro how to do some of it.
Yeah -- I've heard that term before, too. It's pretty close to what I do, anyways.
no subject
I've never heard of that before. You must be from a place far more technologically advanced than mine... It doesn't sound too much different from mana, all things considered. I've seen rogues perform similar tricks.
What else can chakra do?
no subject
But really, the possibilities are pretty much unlimited. Most families where I come from have a certain type of technique that they specialize in -- for example, I have a friend who can control all different types of bugs with his chakra, and I have another who can use the special chakra in his eyes to predict what their enemy's next move is -- things like that.
no subject
Magical families also have specialties. An ancestor of mine was very gifted at scrying, so he was given the deed name of Spellscry. In Common, anyway. The original form is a little harder to pronounce.
no subject
What's scrying?
no subject
I'll ask someone about cells later...
[Ah, here's something he can teach her.]
Scrying is being able to watch and even listen to events without being there in person, usually through a medium like water or glass. It can function both ways as a communication method as well.
no subject
So, can you do that, then ... ?
no subject
[He rolls his shoulders in a light shrug, then looks down at his basket of flowers.]
Time to catalog these, I suppose.
no subject
[ She smiles ]
What did you find?
no subject
[He picks through the flowers on the top.]
Flowers, mostly. I will analyze their traits and see what I can make out of them. My best guess is mana potions; the planet itself seems to have regenerative properties.
