first dream ☼ video + action. { another op'nin, another show }

[ video broadcast/action option ]

[ rapunzel wakes up slowly, like rising from a pleasant mid-afternoon nap that caught her by surprise. but as always, her thoughts quickly catch up with her, and all too quickly it becomes clear that something is very, very wrong. she isn't napping in her bed in her tower - she had left to go see the lanterns! if anything, she should be lying in soft grass - oh, grass, she loved the feeling of grass and this certainly wasn't it. that hadn't all been a dream hadn't? no, no, it couldn't be. it was too wonderful to be a dream!

then her eyes snap open, and a sinking sense of dread chills her to the bone. oh no, this wasn't right. this wasn't right at all.

rapunzel bolts up right, positively leaping off of the cot she's found herself in. her long, golden hair trails behind her as she breaks into a run, away from the cots and through multiple rooms. where was she? what had happened? where were eugene and pascal? maximus? where was she? ]

Eugene! EUGENE! Hello? Anybody? Oh no, oh no, please...

[ then she ends up in the large view bay, in front of a massive window that reveals her location. or at least, what surrounds her location.

she was in the stars. ]

That's - this isn't possible! I'm just dreaming! This isn't -

[ she looks out the window again, eyes wide and unblinking, stepping closer to the glass - only to trip over her own hair. startled, she yelps and folds to the ground, gathering her hair around herself like a protective cocoon. she just keeps staring out the window, her features a mix of fear, confusion, and wonderment. ]

[ yet later video ]

[ after learning a few things about this place - including that it was not, in fact, a dream - rapunzel rallies herself to address the screen that would apparently help her find out if any of her friends were here. she'd never seen anything like this in her life before, but somehow, she knows how to use it. she was glad for that.

however, that doesn't help her know what to say once the broadcast begins. so she clears her throat. once, twice. then coughs, threading her hands through a strand of hair. no, that wouldn't do! you can do this, she tells herself. she straightens her shoulders and faces the screen head-on. ]

HELLO! [ oh dear, that was kind of loud. ] Ahem - sorry. Um...hi. I'm wondering - you see, I was on my way to see these lanterns, and I think there might have been some kind of mistake. I should be at at the castle town right about now, but instead, I'm in the stars...wow, I can't believe I'm in the stars! UM - I'm looking for someone named Eug - Flynn. Flynn Rider. Please, if you've seen him...

[ then, her hand flutters to her mouth. ] Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry! What was I thinking? My name is Rapunzel. It's a pleasure to meet you. Please let me know if you've seen him. Oooor if anyone's even hearing this. Okay. Um...thank you. Bye.

Over here! By the bed!

[Clay waves both arms, hoping that the movement will catch her attention.]

Heeeey!

[He can't deny that her reaction is amusing. Cullen tries to cover his chuckle with a small cough.]

I'm on another ship, not in the... device. I suppose the easiest way is to imagine these as mirrors, save that instead of seeing yourself, you can see others. And they can see you.

Um... Well, it's kind of like I tell it by shaving it all the time! [He meekly waves.]

It's part of my culture. Cuz of my tattoos! [He points to an arrow with an overly cheery smile.] See?

_{[ A new soul to join them. There always seemed to be so many of them, a steady stream. It was different from the trickle that had marked the last days of Paradisa, and both brought a bit of sadness to him. Especially this one, who seemed to young and sweet. To think of her going through the horror with the bugs... ]}

Welcome to the Fleet, Miss Rapunzel. I am Vanyel Ashkevron, of Valdemar. I have not heard of a Flynn on our ships yet, but perhaps we might come across him later in our travels. I am to assume everything has been explained to you?

[ Oh good! No freaking out. Rogue can roll with that. ]

Just about a month now, I reckon. [Pause a beat.] Maybe you'll still be able ta get down on the planet once you're shuffled to a ship. It's mostly oceans an' storms. It's pretty amazing. You can probably see it out the window.

[Playing the: Look, It's Shiny! game to distract from talking about the stuff she really hates to talk about? Y u p. Shameless, too.]

You have an excessively long mane.

[He'll just address the elephant in the room... ]

Uh. Anyway. No need to panic. This isn't a dream. Or if it was, it'd be a giant mass dream, strung across various worlds and I'm pretty sure that's not possible.

Um...

[ "shiny" games are good, but rapunzel is still a little hung up on what rogue just said. mainly, what it even means. ]

Down on the where-now? [ stars, she knows. planets? well, that's a little beyond her. as far as she knows, all the bright lights in the sky are stars.

and star-cruising sailing ships, apparently. ]

[ culture...is noooot something she knows a whole lot about. she read of distant lands in the one-thousand-and-one nights where there were different customs and behaviors than what she had experienced with her limited interaction with the outside world. maybe he was from a far-off place like that. ]

Soooo you shave your hair, so people can see your arrow! [ ... } But why arrows? If you don't mind me asking, of course!

[ she is learning so many (quite overwhelming) things today! ]

[ in spite of what he says, she glances down at herself just to make sure she hasn't transformed into a man. magic she can get. all this other stuff? it's alllll very new, alarming and interesting. ]

So it's like a mirror...into a different place? That's...that's AMAZING! You said you're sailing on a ship?

I never saw one myself, but my mother told me it was purple and shaped like a bell. I've always wanted to see one, maybe -

[ well, she couldn't go scour the kingdom for one now. she was in the stars, and she didn't know when she'd have the chance to see flowers again. ]

Oh! Well...maybe we could come up with a story about your name, then! [ everyone should have a good story to go with their name! ]

[ catch her attention it does! not that that...really helps her figure out what's going on. she tiptoes over towards the screen, peering at it closely and carefully pressing her fingertips against the surface. ]

Oh - oh my goodness! Are you alright in there! [ she sounds rather distraught, but he appear to be trapped in there! ]

Thank you, Vanyel Ashkevron of Valdemar! [ she's very careful to pronounce it just the way he did, though she still isn't quite familiar with name customs to know if she should call him "mr. ashkevron", "vanyel", "sir", or something else! ] I hope we find him soon. Or maybe he'll find us! He's a good finder.

[ then she pauses a moment, thinking on her situation. there certainly were things she was still confused about, but that wasn't because they hadn't been explained. the situation as a whole just seemed so fantastic to her still. ]

Most things, I think. That is...I don't suppose you could tell me how a ship sails through the stars?

It's okay! I love explaining stuff like this. We have arrows because we learned airbending from the sky bison! Does that sound clearer?

Huh? ... Oh! Yeah, I'm fine! I'm not trapped in here or anything! [Well. Technically, they're all trapped, but not in the device itself.]

It's a communication device. You look the same way on mine! [He presses his own fingertips to the surface, head tilted so that she can still see him properly.] Do you have ways to communicate long distance where you come from? Think of it like that, only way more advanced.

Planet? [...] ...ground?

[ rapunzel's first thought is "i don't have a mane!" and then she realizes that she's...hearing voices. or someone's sneaked up on her. neither of these are good things. and she nearly jumps out of her skin as she looks around wildly. ]

Wh-where - who's there??

...Oh! You mean, there's grass somewhere around here? And oceans?

[ she's never seen the ocean! ]

[ to her credit, she thinks about her answer for a moment. ]

Mmm...nope!

Yes. ..on the planet.

[What even what.]

...you know what that is, right?

[ rapunzel looks over her shoulder, to make sure she hasn't become flat. how could she look to him like he does to her when he's all flat??

this is all very perplexing. ]

I've never seen anything like this before. Any of this. [ her voice softens. ] Does it hurt? Being all...flat?

Iiif it's the same thing as the ground, and grass, and ocean, then yes! Sort of. I just never knew it was called that when it's all together.

[...that was fair enough! Good, maybe Rogue wasn't as horribly out of her depth as she had feared.]

Right! An' sky too. Right now we're in a ship that's up past what's normally just blue. You're where the stars are. In order ta get back down to where there's ground an' grass, an' ocean, an' proper air again, you'll have to come to a planet.

Err--the vessels in space here, they're called ships. You're likely on the Marsiva. That's where new people stay until they're put onto other ships in the fleet.

Being flat would be pretty awesome. Imagine all the places you could get into! [He wonders, briefly, what it'd be like to travel space like that, but - more important things here.]

But no, I'm not flat. I'm looking at a device too, just like you! We're just far away from each other right now.

[His smile turns more sympathetic, settling in to get more comfortable.]

This is a lot to take in, huh?

Oh! Um... Okay! Don't worry, I'll explain it to you!
