[sometime in what could be considered the early hours of 'morning,' a transmission is sent out to every ship. it's only text at first, and it has taken its author an embarrassingly long time to type out.]

acting sim. to chaperone? but no trail b/c lack of residue after disassembly

[and then--of course--he remembers the rest of what he wanted to say after he sends it. so, video follows a few seconds after the text message. the camera comes on as a very sick-looking, scraggly teenager is finishing up scrawling something onto the back of his lab notes and then holding it up for the camera to see. he's so tired of trying to type this stuff out it's not even funny.]

'protein structures are solid in native state but I think we can destabilize them'

[and once he's given viewers a few seconds to read, he sets the paper down to write one more word in large letters and emphasizes with scribbly underlining]

[the video connection is then left open, obviously waiting for responses.]

[Aw, good on you, kid. Hange left, finally driven by the demands of her body to sustain itself, but she returns with chicken protein blocks. Hers is drizzled with cheese... liquid stuff. And she's also balancing two cups of heated tea, warm enough to steam a little.

Giant wad of chicken protein in her mouth but she swallows it down and goes to press protein on him too.]

Good job, kiddo.

[ Aw, his former crew member is doing so well... ]

I don't really get it, but it looks like you figured something out! That's great~

[he looks like hell. however, he actually accepts the offering of food without complaint this time, when getting him to eat can normally be kind of a chore. thanks to his unnaturally increased appetite, he takes it and only waits a little bit before beginning to break off little pieces with his fingers and carefully tuck them back into his mouth.

...he should probably also actually look at the notes that he has now scribbled on the back of. hmm.]

[oh hi there... weird ex-captain...

and he sighs a little, scribbles another note onto the back of the paper, and holds it up to the camera.]

'infected w foreign protein structures'

[because that should obviously clear the whole thing up]

Hm~? We are?

[ He doesn't seem quite as bothered by that as he likely should, but then again, he knows more of magic than he does of science. ]

So, that's why we feel like that?

[Hange for her part stretches. A series of pops sounds as she basically resettles her entire skeleton. Then she sits to concentrate fully on wolfing down chicken protein and sipping tea. She eats like a wolf that has a reasonable grasp of table manners.]

[it's all fine and quiet and they're coexisting just fine for a few minutes... until there is a sharp, voiceless huff from his half of the lab.

if she happens to look over, he's looking absolutely disgusted and is kind of pulling a long brown hair out of his mouth.

spoiler alert, it's not one of his.]

[yeah Coil's not quite convinced that he really grasps the siuation. he frowns a little.

this time, he writes and shows the word 'SCIENTIST?' and points at Henry through the screen]

Ahaha, me? Not at all~ I'm only good with curses...things like that.

[She glances up, blinks as she takes in what's happening...

... and then. Oops. She actually snerks. Heheheh.

Then tries to disguise that with a cough.]

[he shakes his head; that's not what he meant.

but instead of being specific, he just points in Henry's direction again and kind of... draws a broader shape with his finger? more like pointing around Henry than right at him this time.]

Oh, okay~

[ He gets it now! ]

Not anymore! But that's okay, you're a lot happier where you are now, right~?

[ Not that Coil was probably worried about how Henry felt about it. ]

[Allen perks up immediately at reading these text. When the video comes on- he's a bit surprised to see a teenager - but eh, he's reaaaally not one to judge. So he'll focus on the message]

A cure? What do you propose we do to destabilize them?

[she gets a definite little glare shot her way, before he points at her and angrily mimes putting his hair up into something]

[whether he cares or not, he still looks a little subdued at the question.

he shrugs a little, but it's totally a cop-out answer.]

[ah-- someone who might actually be able to do something with the information he has!

he has to switch to a new piece of paper because the one he's on is getting a little crowded, and scribbles out an answer to hold up to the camera]

'create counter-proteins in lab - injections??'

[She isn't looking at that... she's slowly leaning closer and closer to her turkey protein... just shaking at first until it bursts out of her -

laughing. A little bit. Laughing and laughing. Relatively restrained chuckling but laughing.]

But even if you're not my crew anymore, if you need any help, you can ask me!

Create a counter protein...

[There's a pause as he considers that, squinting his eyes to read it again (man, maybe he should pick up glasses)]

Yes, I think there's some stuff in the lab that I could use to do that...I can see what I can do! [Sure, he's never done it before - but that never stops a shonen!] Can you pass this info onto Captain Hange as well? Maybe she can try making one as well.

[yeah have fun with your cure, this guy's passed out against a counter.

this wouldn't be the first time he's fallen asleep in the lab, but...]

[a voiceless but audible sigh.

he'll wait until her useless ass is done getting her chuckles in. ha ha this is so funny he can't stand it.]

[at first, he just nods.

...but, after another moment or two of thought, he actually rolls the idea around in his head. it takes him a minute to remember that this guy is actually supposedly useful.

so, another question scribbled on the paper]

'what kind of help?'

[there's no limits to what a shonen with a brain augment and set of mysterious lab supplies can do!

and Coil just flips a dismissive hand back over his shoulder when Hange is mentioned. ...because they're sharing a lab now, she's over there somewhere, and he does not particularly want to talk about it.

instead, he just starts the laborious task of typing up his findings with actual chemical formula terms-- his best guess on concocting a vaccine for this thing.

...give him a few minutes and the file will finally come in over the network.]

[man... he used to know how to do this.

and he'd probably be able to just continue on his way and focus on his own suffering, but the whole fever and sickness things has him kind of concerned. he doesn't want to dig around for a blanket, though. that's more effort than he has energy for, and something like that might give the wrong impression anyway...

so, he settles for a towel instead, tucking it around Zhas' shoulders as he just happens to pass by.]

[Woe, that makes her laugh at him more. Eventually she gets it together enough to tell him something important.]
