[So it's Ino's birthday! Anyone who is on good terms with Ino would have received an invitation to attend a birthday party for her on the Iskaulit. I assure you, it was mostly Hiro's doing. Or anyone else involved with the party planning. ]

[Sure enough going to the appointed time and place will indeed lead you to a birthday party! There's a giant banner saying so and everything. Not only that but there's delicious food thanks to Belthazar, music, and other assorted party things.]

[In other words? ITS A MINGLE. Feel free to stop by, socialize, not socialize and hang awkwardly in a corner, gate crash, mooch food or anything else you can think of! ]

[Clay laughs at that, because that really did sound ridiculous with his accent, then moves to settle down next to him, shoulders and legs casually touching. He's got a plate of his own, too, though it's much smaller than Allen's. A sample of everything, because it's been a while since he's had real food.]

So is this your special anti-social corner?

[Super casual. But he doesn't pull away, and smiles sheepishly at Clay.]

Is that what it seems like?

[ Probably because that's what it is, Allen Walker. And he knows it, so he'll own up. ]

Parties are much more Ino's thing than mine. It was actually Hiro's idea to hold one.

Ah, so you're the wallflower of the group. Makes sense! I'm more of a party-goer myself, though I sure didn't used to be.

[Now that he's sitting and comfortable, he'll go ahead and chow down. At the very first bite, Clay leans his head back and lets out a tiny noise of delight; this stuff is delicious.]

[He gives a little laugh at Clay's reaction to the food] Isn't it delicious?! I think Belthazar may actually be the best cook in the fleet!

And are you saying you, the fine Clay Terran, used to be a wallflower? I'm sorry, that's a little hard to believe.

[Give him a moment. Let him savor this food, because it's amazing.

When he's done with that bite, though, he grins and pokes Allen's shoulder - though his depth perception is off because of the eye patch, so he underestimates the distance at first before he gets it right.]

You, Allen Walker, didn't know me when I was a kid. I used to be the quietest kid in class, and I hated having to go to big social events like this. I had wallflowering down to an art back then.

[His eyebrows got up high when Clay describes him as "the quietest kid", since dear lord- that makes as much sense as saying Allen's tan, okay]

You're serious. That's- what happened to change that? You weren't abducted by aliens, were you?

[Okay he's definitely kidding about that last part. BUT WHAT EVEN CLAY.]

[He snorts at that] Man, I wish! That would've been awesome.

[Clay you're probably literally the only person to think that. But whatever, let's move on:]

I guess... I learned that being friends with people and letting them get to know you wasn't terrifying. I could let people in and not be afraid of getting made fun of or, you know, used for homework. After that? I started to become the guy you know and love today!

[It's a bit of a brief version, as the long version might delve into some darker topics, and we don't want to get into that at a birthday party. But it's still all very true.]

[He smiles at that. Yes Clay, you're the only person that'd think that...but aw. That's a nice ending. Though he'll just...take that last bit as just an expression y e a h.]

That's sweet. I'm glad you were able to learn those things - being as outgoing as you are really suits you.
