I like the green, personally. [It goes with his eyes... even if it's terrible neon.] Who'd those people be, hm?

[he swaps out the multiple boas he's got on for only the green one, fluffing it up around his neck and admiring the results in the mirror]

People from home. ...Well, sorta.

Mhm? What's that sorta about? [She just leans back and observes him a little. The flutter of a kept creature. Poor kid.]

Well, like... I met them from home? But they weren't from there, or something... so...

[he shrugs, as if it's no big deal. as if he's even actually grasped the concept to begin with.]

Are you on a ship with them? [Casual conversation inside this stupid shop full of fripperies. She balances her weight on one leg, folding her arms.]

No, they're on a different one. The, uh... [thinking, while he switches the green boa out for an orange one to compare] ...something about sports.

... I'm not sure we have... a watersport. [Thinking.] What're their names?

Robin and Rin. [he laces the boa along outstretched arms, continuing to pose in the mirror, looking at Hange via the reflection] ...Oh, and Cecil too. But she's not from home.

Robin and Cecil I know! Aren't you lucky? It's nice to have friends around. [She straightens up.] Are they looking after you?

[he's looking at his own reflection when he nods, keeping up a smile, doing a good job of floating on superficial thoughts instead of anything more complicated or stressing.]

It was weird to see people here that I know. But they're all really nice, so that's cool.

Nobody bad has shown up.

[oh, distracted immediately from the mirror and everything else, he drops his smile and turns to glance back at her, looking concerned over getting in trouble.]

[he asks while digging out the few chips he has from his pockets. and once located, he starts looking through them like he has any idea what they actually mean.]

[he goes with the green one, then. toxic green is a good color.]

[She gives him a thump at the back, significantly gentler than her usual congratulatory whacks. Don't wanna hurt the baby.]

[he hasn't actually looked for actual options or anything. that would involve, like, forethought and investigation.]

[Picked more or less at random. She has no idea about the crazy colors people can give to their hair in this world. Black makes sense, though.]

[he picks at his bangs, imagining it while she finishes ringing up]

I look really short with black hair, though.

[Transaction over, she turns around and reaches to ruffle his hair.]

[he scrunches up his face when she ruffles him, and immediately starts picking at his hair to put it back into whatever is the right place when she stops]
