[The wolf huffs and it almost sounds like a laugh. His tail wags. She won't get shot, he promises.
The scene changes and she's part of a group stomping across a coastline. There are a couple of bodies nearby, bandits that tried their hand on them and failed miserably. Ahead is a bearded, black haired man, daggers sheathed on his back, he walks with a red-haired woman, armoured and built like a tank. They're muttering about routes and finding a hideout. You don't much care about the strategy, you're just here to deal with them.
You heft your greatsword onto your back when a voice interrupts you. You glance down to the dwarf beside you, he's smirking, so he's obviously got something witty to say. Best let him get on with it. ]
"So what do you do in that gigantic house all day?"
Anyone else may have got a bitter response. Some snarling remark on how it's none of their damn buisness. But you LIKE Varric, a lot, and he has earned the right to have you joke with him from time to time.
"Dance, of course," you reply in that dry tone where it's hard to tell if you're joking or not.
Varric pauses, he's clearly trying to decide which one it is.
"Really?" he ventures.
You give a solemn nod, your face a mask of seriousness.
"I run from room to room, choreographing routines."
Varric lets out a sharp laugh, shaking his head and slapping a hand on his leg. This is probably the best thing that's happened to him all day.
"You're actually joking," he waves his hands in the air, making the two ahead of them turn and throw them a set of confused looks while Varric continues. "Alert the Chantry! They need to put this on the calendar!"
A small smile plays on your lips, but from you, it is as much as a wide grin, and Varric knows it.
"And you thought I was always serious," you reply, as you both move to rejoin the group, Varric laughing all the way.
