[hinata is reminded of nel immediately upon entering this room. the only time he's ever danced was because of him; but that's who he thinks of when he starts moving with the crowd so suddenly, interacting with people because it feels like he's supposed to. he even takes a girl's hand, and dances along with her, after a minute of dancing beside her.

[it's only when he focuses a little too hard on trying to see her face that he realizes the person he's dancing with... doesn't have one. the moment consumes him, and it's at this point that her hand falls through his like it never really existed. he focuses, and after a moment, he's not getting bumped into. he doesn't try to walk, doesn't try to move, but... he stands still. perfectly still, focusing, waiting; maybe he can leave if he focuses hard enough.]

[with that kind of focus, the dancers move through him like ghosts. and the more he stands there and keeps himself from being sucked into the tide, the shallower it all seems. they're just copies of a few standard archetypes, repeating all throughout the crowd.

they're all fake, but seeing through them at least causes a few little details to stand out. the first thing he might notice is that there is a certain symbol that repeats all around the space. it's in the tattoos and jewelry of the faceless clubgoers, it's embroidered on their clothes, it's in the graffiti on the wall. and the second is that--somewhere here--there is someone with a face. he's still submerged nearby in the crowd, still out of sight, but he can be felt just the same.]

[he notices the symbol... and he notices that someone here is different. he can feel it. he moves slowly through the crowd as he goes, stepping lightly and walking through the crowd toward the source. he needs to find whoever that is...

[and once he thinks he's found him, he reaches out to grab for his shoulder.]

--hey!

[catamite]

[and really, grabbing him is the only hope there is of catching his attention. it's too loud to hear, and he's too wrapped up (literally) in his dance partner to notice much else about his surroundings.

when a hand comes down on his shoulder though, he turns around with a start.]

Sorry--! [he automatically shouts over the music. maybe he thinks he's bumped into someone and that's why he's being grabbed.]

--Nel?

[hinata is good at shouting, at least. why is nel here? what is he doing dancing with faceless people?]

[it takes him a second, but then he breaks out into a grin when he realizes it's someone he knows.]

Oh, hey! You're here!

[and then he just... starts dancing in his direction! hope you're ready for some energetic club partying, buddy, because it's happening right now.]

[oh! well. okay, never mind, this is fine. he likes dancing with nel! that's kind of becoming their thing, he guesses. so he's going to try to dance, but he's very... awkward, and he's never danced like people do in clubs before.]

H-hey, where are we? How do we get out?

[catamite]

[luckily, at least in this place, no one seems to notice anything awkward about him at all. he's participating in the party, and that's what matters.]

What? [Nel shouts over the music, leaning in to try and catch the words. but, it's pretty clear that he didn't catch one bit of that.]
