[ katara flashes a brief smile at the communicator, expression genuinely content, but it's clear that she's distracted by something. ]

Have you ever run into someone from your world that you've never met before? In places like here -- like Drift Fleet or Paradisa or Adstringendum or anywhere else. I guess, specifically, I mean... has anyone else ever met someone from their own future?

[ because it's something she's been dwelling on a lot, recently. ]

I have... do you remember Dr. Bashir?

[ she nods, leaning forward slightly. ]

Not well, but I met him.

He came from the future. Not very far but... far enough. [Her expression becomes grim.] A lot can happen in three years.

Mmhm. [ a soft hum of agreement. ] Seems to be all I ever do these days.

Two of them, actually. [Shawn sighs a little, blowing his hair out of his face.] My best friend and his baby girl.

Which was... Man, I still can't wrap my head around it. It was weird.

[ katara's expression tightens a little at the grimness on beverly's, before she shakes her own head slightly. ]

Are you alright?

[ she wants to talk about who she met - aang's reincarnation, her own children - but it's important to stop, to make sure that beverly doesn't want to talk about something herself first. ]

Yeah? [ there's a polite smile on her face, worn well with the curiosity. ] Do you mean just a few years, or...?

I met one of my grandchildren.

[ there's a long-suffering expression on her own face. ]

I'm sixteen.

Decades, actually. The lot of them.

I met my son. Or, uh - the son I'll have someday, apparently. [ her brow knits thoughtfully here. ] He was my dad's age.

[ bloody hell. now, peggy's met a friend's son -- and that had seemed impossible enough. but this?

simply: ] Must've been one hell of a meeting.

[ a hell of an understatement, too, and katara laughs a little, just at the absurdity of it. ]

Everyone who came from then knew me as an old lady. It's so weird.

Bizarre, to say the least.

[ she doesn't expound upon her problems -- the ones where she never asked anyone else about her future, and they never told her. either she's old as dust or dead as doornails. peggy isn't yet certain which future would be preferable.

instead: ] I suppose we must imagine how extraordinary it must have been for him to meet...well, his mother. Bizarre all 'round.

Imagine how weird it was for me to discover that I apparently have children with one of my best friends.

[ it'd been so long since she'd seen aang back in adstring when she'd discovered all of this -- it had been a pretty weird thought, had rooted feet that had started drifting after years spent there. ]

But I think "bizarre" says it pretty well, yeah. I'm Katara, by the way.

[ rearing children with your best friend doesn't sound like such a fright, she thinks. but she doesn't say that, either, because katara had merely commented upon its weirdness. something can be weird and not-that-bad all at the same time.

so, briskly on to introductions: ] Pleasure, Katara. I'm -- Peggy. [ peggy will do. if katara doesn't fuss 'round with family names, then neither will agent carter. ]

Not anyone who knew me specifically, but I constantly meet people from my world's future. [...] Sounds like a lot is going to happen.

[To put it mildly from someone from 1898. But he can tell this isn't what Katara means]

Who did you meet?

Uh.

[He stares at her for what feels like forever, wanting to say something but not pulling himself together long enough until--]

I think you just beat everyone here in the weird department.

It's - I'm alright. But whenever I go home, I'll be going back to a war, a war that hasn't happened yet from my perspective. For Julian though... he's a prisoner of war. Not knowing what's happening to him is difficult.

[She tries to give Katara a reassuring smile, but it falters a little.]

I'll be fine, I promise. What was it that you wanted to talk about?

Why are you asking?

[ zuko is literally texting katara one room over he's just lazy af ]

[ katara doesn't think it at all odd, mostly because she doesn't have a last name to give. ]

It's nice to meet you, Peggy. Have you been here long?

[ her face remains somber at that. ]

All wars have to end, someday. I hope he's alright, for your sake and his both. [ she hesitates slightly, not sure that just chittering away about her own life now is really appropriate. ]

Nothing in particular, really. I met some of my own family that I don't have, yet, and I was wondering if anyone else had ever been in that boat.

[ she's a little defensive now. ]

That doesn't make ME weird!

Um! My granddaughter. And Aang's next reincarnation. Among others. It.. took a pretty long time to adjust to.

Mako, Jinora, Asami...

[ etc etc etc ]

I've met Asami. And Mako, I think.

[ they sound familiar, anyway. maybe. ]

But I meant why are you asking right now.
