004 - Text; oh space balls
Who: Clay Terran and ALL of you!!
Broadcast: Yeh
Action: On the Vanquish!
When: January 2nd
[Clay was having a good time exploring the temples. He was all about them temples. So, of course, he feels very bitter about having to cut the exploration short due to catching a cold. A cold. And on top of that, one of his crewmates is gone. He was about to tell Koushiro that hey, the captain caught a cold too, and... well. Normally he'd bounce back from all this and move on, but with the cold quickly and progressively getting worse and worse...
So he's in his bed, covers up over his head and very. Very. Bored. And it's only been a day since he was ordered bed rest! He could be exploring the temples more. He could be learning about the salt mines. He could be continuing his research for his star charts, but no, that has to be put off too. Ugh, this will mess him up...
With a groan, he rolls over, pats for his device, and decides to type since he doesn't want to cough in everyone's faces:]

It's the mining. It disturbs the fossilized layers where they were, and the pathogens get brought out of dormancy.
And apparently this has happened for so long, the native population has completely adapted and are immune to it. It's only people not native to the planet that get sick. But even that in of itself is strange.
Action
[Oh hold on, gotta bend over and cough into his upper arm because dang, sitting up kinda messes with his lungs. It takes a few more of them, but once he's done, he'll let out a groan into his arm before going on.]
Anyway, I've been visiting the mines to see how the locals live their lives. So I probably got it when I was at one of them... So why do you think it's strange for us to catch it? Is it because our bodies get infected by a virus unknown to us?
Action
[And probably why he hasn't. He really hadn't bothered to check out the mine. A mine's a mine, after all. It held no interest to him]
Sort of...it's more like, virus - they evolve to target one type of cell, or rather, one type of species? That's why pets almost never get sick when their owners do. I mean, sometimes a virus mutates and are able to cross species, but that's not that common. And when it does happen, it's usually to a species that's similar to their original targets in some regard, like both of them are mammals or primates.
But this pathogen, it's able to infect a whole variety of species. Sometimes species that's never even set foot on the planet, or have naturally strong immunity to everything.
Action
[Man, now he really hopes that Allen and whoever else visits him doesn't catch this thing. It sounds nasty.]
So even the foxes can catch it?
Action
But don't worry, the foxes have lived on the planet long enough that they've adapted to it. Even if they do catch it, their immune systems would probably respond and destroy it before the foxes even began to feel symptoms.
Action
Oh, good... So I don't have to lock Cosmos out.
Action
Cosmos...?
Action
[Man, they get an adorable baby fox and he gets sick, what is his life.]
Action
[....Okay, that? Causes Allen's face to just light up.]
Action
We got a fox.
Action
Ah...I hope he comes by!
Action
He probably will. He's still a baby, so he's making his rounds of the place and getting used to it. Al picked him, I named him, and we both paid for him so that our account wouldn't be completely wiped out.
Action
[Sweet precious proto-akuma armor child yes.]
[But okay, right. Fox. He's gonna have to find him later. But Allen knows he came here for Clay. Clay who is sick and probably needs attention, so he'll try to focus and smile a bit sheepishly at Clay]
Ah- maybe once you're feeling better we can take the fox somewhere to stretch his legs. [Outside, a waystation, wherever]
Action
Mm, yeah, I'd like that. [Walking with the boyfriend plus taking the fox out for a stretch? It sounds like a good time, and man, it makes him wish he was better right now... But he's not, so.] So you said you had stories to tell me?
Action
Mm, if you'd like. What sort of story are you in the mood for?
Action
Action
[He leans back and crosses his arms as he thinks]
That'd...probably either the week I served on a pirate ship, or the time we got stuck on a dinosaur island.
Action
[Those are... both pretty wild. He does wonder what dinosaurs really looked like, but at the same time, he doesn't want to know, so he's torn on that one. And the pirate one sounds fun! So, hmm.]
Which... ever one you want to talk about? Sure. Go with that.
Action
Hmmm...well I haven't told the dinosaur one in awhile, so how about that one?
[Yeah, sounds good. Pirates are cool but he doesn't want to get typecasted as the pirate loving guy.
He wasn't an ace attorney character after all][With that in mind, he'll straighten up a little]
Alright so- oh, so before I begin, I should let you know that this happened when I was....18 or 19? Years ago, when I was a lot more reckless than I am now. Okay? Just...so you know.
[GUESS WHO IS VERY USED TO BEING REPRIMANDED FOR HIS RECKLESS SHIT]
Action
Okaaaay...
[Eyebrow raise. Sure, he did stupid things when he was 18/19 too, but being reminded before the story is even told is just. Wow. What did you do, Allen Walker.]
Action 1/2
Okay!
Action
Anyway, when I was eighteen or nineteen, I was still in Paradisa. And sometimes the castle would take us to...strange places, with no warning. That's how I saw Los Angeles, and a bunch of other places!
But one time, we woke up and we were arriving to a tropical island- it was supposed to be some kind of resort that this man named Dr. Hammond had created.
It was called Jurassic Park. [you know, like that movie every child is required to see.]
Action
[HE CAN ALREADY TELL WHERE THIS IS GOING. Also this is totally why he was torn about dinosaurs; paleontologists are still discovering new things, and those dinosaurs are so out of date... even though the puppetry and robotics were really, really good.
But oh god. That place actually existed? Well, it's a surprise and yet it's not, what with everything else he thought was fictional existing in another plane - okay back to listening.]
Action
I didn't know about the movie at the time, I was still getting accustomed to future technology. Later I found out that this was Dr. Hammond's second attempt at a park like this. There was the time in his homeworld, and then he was brought to Paradisa years before any of us...and well, that's what he had decided to do with his time.
[Much to the horror of everyone possible]
Either way, even if most of us hadn't heard of the movie, many were rather wary of a park full of giant dinosaurs. This was the castle that enjoyed siccing monsters on us, after all.
But for the first day, it was fine. None of the dinosaurs got out and the park was a nice break from the castle.
So of course on the second day, being cocky, we agreed to go on a free car tour that'd take us to the area where larger dinosaurs were kept.

Oh noooo.
