[Kanan is sitting at the Málum on the Iskaulit, having himself a quiet drink as he contemplates the so-called Space Bar he passed getting to this particular alternate establishment. Neither one were quite like the cantina he used to work in back on Gorse and neither one of them had quite the crowds either. There was always a few here and there, but it would be a real stretch to ever call them packed. Which is what prompts him to take the time to look at the ship rosters.]

I've been looking at the ship rosters today. It looks like all of the ships in this fleet are at max capacity. Is that normal?

[It's not because he was trying to figure out a way to get himself and Hera on the same ship! It was just... professional curiosity. That's all.]

I also didn't bother with an introduction on my last broadcast. My name is Kanan. [And the part where he'd actually give anything about himself is abruptly not included when he decides to end the feed.]

[She pauses.]

... do we? And who are you, exactly?

[Just now he's coming up with a blank. He's so stuck thinking about the people from his past that he didn't expect people from his future instead.]

We have had a large influx of people. I wouldn't say that's normal. Perhaps they happen in spurts?

Come to think of it, how do people leave?

No, it's not usual.

[ -- peggy knocks back the last mouthful of something that ought to taste like whiskey, but doesn't quite. she isn't drinking alone. or, rather, she clearly hadn't been drinking alone shortly before now. a second glass and a second napkin sit before a skewed chair, but whoever she'd been sharing time with has left before her.

she dabs the corner of a napkin against her lips, and then pulls a pot of rustically manufactured lip colour out of her pocket. the first planet she'd ever been to within this fleet hadn't offered much in the way of cosmetics, but she uses it now to 'touch up' what's been smudged from the rim of her glass. and while she does, she hears a question being asked over by the bar.

peggy waits long enough to let tidy up a few first conversations, then: ] I wonder if it's ever happened before. Over-population, that is. We may be in for a tight few weeks. Months, maybe.

[ a friendly (but distant) smile. peggy gives kanan a brief nod of greeting. ] It's a question worth asking.

[Organa... Aldeeran. Now it clicks.]

Senator Organa's... wife?

[He guesses. He would say daughter, but she's a little too old for that. At least now she is.]

No idea. I haven't seen it happen myself. But if there's anytime to start culling the herd...

[Leaving is not the issue. It's whether or not leaving actually means returning home or not.]

[ He almost chuckles. Well, he was brusque. ]

I've been here seven months. Anything else I can help you with?

[Among the other patrons, she had only earned a passing glance when he'd first settled in for his lonely drink. He hardly even notices her speak up at first or even realize she's even speaking to him. After a second to reprocess her words, he answers with a stiff nod.]

I've been in a stuffed ship before. I don't know these systems well enough to say either way, but sleeping space might be the last of our worries if the air filtration systems can't keep up with the extra bodies.

[WELL, THAT'S AN UNSETTLING THOUGHT.]

Daughter. And one of his aides, back then.

You're from around the same time as Hera, right? [With how careful they've had to be about the future, it can't hurt to make sure.]

[ air filtration? it isn't something she considered -- but now that it's brought to her attention, she can feel the full force of its necessity. some days, parsing what comes from her augment and what's from her own knowledge is a surreal affair. ]

So let's hope we're not too far out from the next planet, hm? A chance to stretch our legs.

[Daughter... right. Well, he didn't think Bail was that old, but he was no expert. Still he grimaces apologetically.]

Right down to the day. I take it you've met.

Well, I'm wondering what happens in a situation like this. Has it happened before?

Well, it's not likely they'll send us home — either new ships will show up or the existing ones will be forcibly modified to hold more crew.

A warmer planet at that. [He gives his beard a thoughtful stroke - it's intended purpose.] I just don't know if the population of these ships are prepared for having to deal with any kind of rationing. I don't think either of my captains have any real experience out of atmosphere.

[Ships being run by people who'd never left their home planet? Now that was something to be scared of.]

I guess I was worried about nothing, then. Not that I particularly like that they're expanding their operations.

They could yet surprise you. [ she reins in her patience -- because they were all from different walks of life. ] And you may yet learn that those among the fleet who aren't so well acquainted with out-of-atmosphere travel still know a thing or three about rationing.

There's always something to worry about. You just said this before somebody else did.

[ A pause. ]

Least we might get to see what they do when faced with something like this. I can't imagine it's not been planned for given everyone who's arrived this month.

[But do they know what to ration? Still, she has a point.]

You're right. This place has been full of surprises. My name is Kanan, by the way. Assuming you didn't hear that before.

[ she offers him a hand to shake. ]

You would think if they're hosting a holodrama, they would think about the capacity they need to maintain their show.

Or it's intentional; they want to see who gets spaced first.
