Who: margaery tyrell.
Broadcast: fleet wide.
Action: Marsiva ; hospitality deck
When: current

[ the girl who sits in front of the camera seems as if she is quite well-versed in this manner of communication. if she had spent precious time watching others from afar before trying her hand at it as to not look foolish, it does not show. the only hint of how foreign she is to this setting is her manner of dress but give it a few seconds and you might start thinking this is somehow natural, too.

after all, she does seem very comfortable. Margaery's smile is sweet and bright, her hair is flowing down her shoulders and a few roses are placed neatly in her lap, almost a portrait-worthy moment before she speaks. ]

If I am not entirely mistaken, these are our best chance of speaking to one another. I did not wish to appear ill-mannered in failing to introduce myself.

[ to her fellow hostages and to the audience watching. she made certain to appear especially lovely for this. if they love you from the first moment, they shall be yours forever if you mind your step. ]

I am Margaery of House Tyrell; some of you I had the pleasure of meeting already and as for the rest, I am eager to speak to you as soon as it pleases you. I understand we are to spend quite some time together and it would please me to know each and every one of you. I am certain you have fascinating tales to tell of your time here or where you come from; if you ever wish to share, I shall be honored to provide company. I know little of such vessels and adventures but I am keen to learn all that I may.

[ and win whatever game this is. she dips her chin, a humble gesture. ]

For now, I hope I am welcome among you and dearly hope this finds you well.

Not anymore, no. The British Empire used to be the greatest in the world, for what that's worth - which largely depends on your opinion of colonization, slavery, and genocide.

[Harsh words, but they're very tempered by how airily she says them. She's not a crusader against her country's past, but she's got no misplaced pride, either; it's just where she was born, half her heritage. She would've been just as happy - probably happier - going to school in America when the chance came up.]

What sort of power do you have to look forward to, then? "Realm" makes it sound like you'll be ruling over much more than Queen Liz.

Well. That's certainly noble. [Her eyebrows arch delicately.] It also sounds exactly like what politicians say right up until the moment they gain power, at which point it's all they care about. But different worlds and all that - maybe nobility is still a viable option where you're from. Part of me would like to hope it is somewhere.

[God knows her own world is rotten in a million ways, so many of them stemming from her own sort of people; that has a lot more to do with her dubious response than anything about Margaery herself.]

[Well, sincere or not, she talks a hell of a game. And her intelligence shines through everything she says, maybe even more strongly than the kindness in the words, which is a quality Celeste always respects. She's a pretty formidable young woman.]

I think they're probably well aware of it, and that's a bloody good reason to keep the poor where they are, in their eyes. [A tiny smile quirks her lips.] You've got to be awfully confident to give everyone a fair shot, because that means more people who can challenge you. But you're up to it, aren't you?

[Not teasing this time, despite her inscrutable little smile. She believes it.]

It's much more likely that I'm too cynical, Margaery. I haven't had the most crap life the world's got to offer, I learned that much in Eudio, but it wasn't much fun either. And there weren't very many people worth trusting.

[She gives a little shrug, not dismissive but amicable.]

If you really think you can help out the little guy, why not do it? I've met enough truly selfless people to know that it's not always naiveté.

You don't want to stretch your mind too far on that front, or the entire concept of reality itself can get a bit blurry, what with some of the worlds out there.

[Suffice it to say that Celeste has Seen Some Shit.

The sudden outpouring of warmth in Margaery's expression, the immediate offer - no, promise of close friendship, startle her enough that she just stares for a moment. Sure, she got a lot better at making friends (especially with fellow girls) in Eudio, but she just thought they were having a fun conversation. An engaging bit of banter. That Margaery is willing to put a strong stake in their potential friendship already is - well, it's surprising and flattering, and it's a nice surprise.]

Well, I shan't say no to that. Even in a transdimensional nexus, it can't hurt to get in the good graces of a future queen. [And that's the most obvious teasing yet. The rank doesn't mean anything compared to how cool she seems so far.]

Are cakes a social necessity, where you come from? [She looks a bit baffled at the idea.] You needn't worry, I know that they do have tea in the kitchens here, and tea is about all we ask. Of course, if you can ever smuggle in a cake or two, I won't turn it down.

Goodness, I do have a lot to learn about your sort of polite society. Is summerwine greatly different from winter wine, then?

[The only appropriate response to her lack of understanding about the meaning of summer and winter in Margaery's universe is, of course: oh, you sweet summer child.]

Oh, that sounds lovely. London is positively dreary - most of England is, really - so we could go for weeks and even months without a glimpse of sun.

[To say nothing of how long she was closed inside regardless of weather. But that's neither here nor there at the moment.]

The last city I was in was much better, but long summer... it's almost a romantic turn of phrase.
