Who: Anakin Skywalker
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: Paisley
When: Right meow

There are a lot of questions and interests about other worlds lately. I have one question that I'm interested in right now. [ Alright, Ankain you can do this. Forget about that scolding Obi-Wan voice in your head telling you that the future is always changing. ] Does your universe-- do you believe in fate?

[ Oh, great. It sounds like a load of bantha dung when he actually hears it out loud. Awkwardly: ]

Destiny.

[ That doesn't help, which is fine. It's fine. It goes against the Jedi teachings and feels wrong just saying it. Nevermind that things are different with each universe, so it can't be really applicable, right?

Whatever, roll with it.

He adds, without pause, a completely unnecessary definition. ]

That certain things needs to happen in the future.

[ Leto is surprised, though he hides it well. ]

To some degree. Granted, I see time very different from others.

[ this is an easy answer: no. nothing is determined; nothing is certain.

she could prove her nihilism — or she could be a brat.
]

Mind clarifying that definition for us a little more?

If you think it'd help.

Destinies would be a more apt word. There are . . . many paths, many branches in time. Prophecy can limit that, narrowing those options.

It can be good . . . for a little while, to achieve a certain outcome.
archaeotechnician: (my last words will probably be sarcastic)

[ unflustered! ]

If you didn't want anyone saying anything, you should have practiced beforehand. Maybe written it down.

[ ~*~making friends~*~ ]

In answer to your question, though, it depends on where in the galaxy you're at. Further away from the Core you get, the less anyone believes in anything they can't see with their two eyes. Or…more eyes.

Yes, I do. In my world there are creatures who make prophesies regarding future events, and their predictions are never wrong.

[Hi, Anakin.]

Mmm...I'm from a world that wasn't supposed to exist, but someone went into the past and created a new timeline. I don't know if that helps prove of disprove destiny for you, but I know I'm not the same person that came out on the other side.
forcesensitive: (what's up there?)

[personal profile] forcesensitive 2016-05-20 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
[As much as he's heard about Anakin, Finn hasn't met the guy yet. So this is Ahsoka's master--her friend, really.]

There's people here from, like, fifty different timelines. If there was only one destiny, they wouldn't be.

[He thinks of Melisandre, of a grey girl on a pale horse and daggers in the dark. If you can truly see the morrow in your flames--]

i knew someone who claimed she could see the future in her fires. it was true, to a certain extent, but the things she told me would come to pass did so very differently from how i thought they would.

[And now there's Jon himself, thanks to his older brother coming from much earlier in time than him.]

so no, i suppose i don't believe in destiny very much. even if you think you know the future, it can still surprise you.

There are a few on my planet that think that way. Me, personally? I believe that the ticket to the future is always blank and what we choose to do with it is all up to us. Our actions is what is important.

I don't.

[Quiet, subdued. Hesitant.]

If things in my world followed fate, I wouldn't be here like I am today.
flickerflash: (do you mind?)

[personal profile] flickerflash 2016-05-20 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
Why would anyone smart believe in fate? It's the sort of thing people pretend exists so they get to boss you around.

We always have a choice. The heart of the matter is whether we are willing to soldier that choice, even when it gets difficult.

Love your choices. It is a beautiful thing.

[What a strange question to post over the network, but he gets it.]

Everything that has happened will happen again. [The world needs its beacon of hope as much as its beacons of villainy. Why else would the cycle continue?] By themselves, people are insignificant. Together they can change the outcome.

[A pause.]

On a smaller level, your actions impact your future. If you live a pure and benevolent life then you'll be blessed. But if you drag yourself through the mud like a sinner, then you'll die like one.
bloodbiter: (toitus if you will)

[personal profile] bloodbiter 2016-05-20 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It's difficult not to believe it when they haven't once been incorrect.

[a pause]

That's difficult to say. They enjoy trickery, so what they say can often be misleading. If it were something I didn't wish to happen... I would hope that what they predicted had a happier interpretation.
archaeotechnician: (at least I can admit)

[hi Anakin, have a not drunk Riona.]

Some from my world believe in such, but given the many different versions of my world that exist... I don't know. I don't like the idea much, to be honest. Our choices are ours, for better or worse.

[To think that her family's death was ordained, or that no other choices could have been made to change how things turned out - no, she'll never entertain the idea. It feels too much like shirking responsibility to her.]
