"I enjoy your company." Tolerance is something she extends to people she doesn't like, not those she drags up into tree tops. Or ones she brings cake to at her first birthday party.

The small box gets wide eyes. It's still her first birthday. She's not yet used to the idea of people bringing gifts.

"Y-you didn't have to." It sounds oddly like she's a little frightened. And she hears it in her own voice so she tries again. She could count the number of actual gifts she's been offered on one hand with fingers left over. "I mean, I'm certain whatever you chose is perfect."
