[He smirks, and shrugs off his jacket. There's little point in denying that he agreed to indulge Charles's investigation of the landscape partly so he could come back to the springs. It's time to follow through.]

[axiomed]

[ Charles sheds his clothes neatly, draping them neatly onto the arm rest.

Then he changes to his other form to trot towards the springs. ]

[grandstanding]

[Erik removes his own clothing, stepping out of his pants and heading into the water. He lets out a sigh as he sinks in. As always, the heat felt good after the hard slog of walking up the mountainside to get here.]

[ The otter drifts towards the edge before it switches out. ]

Relaxing, isn't it?

[grandstanding]

You don't have to tell me. I've already been here once before. [He opens one eye to peer at Charles.] And not full of tourists, for once.

[axiomed]

Don't show off, it's unseemly.

[ He lets out a quiet sigh. It feels great to his back too. ]

[grandstanding]

You'd know it if I was showing off. I prefer to know my surroundings. [The spring had been a bonus.]

[axiomed]

Did anything else catch your eye?

[grandstanding]

Mm, yes. The beach. [He had gone down there a few days ago, to scope out the fishing situation. And also...] I thought we should all head down there for your birthday, in fact.

[axiomed]

[ He stares because he hadn't really been keeping track of the dates. Time has never been a concern. ]

Oh . . . sure. I had forgotten about that.

[grandstanding]

[Erik, on the other hand, tracks everything. Down to the letter. He just shakes his head lightly, not surprised Charles hasn't paid attention to the dates. It isn't worth saying that he would have been unlikely to have cared about his birthday in years past. They both know about that time.]

Don't sound so excited

[ He shoots Erik an apologetic grin. ]

Sorry. It never occurred to me. But I suppose considering the calendar, birthdays could very well be a thing.

[grandstanding]

[Erik has often wondered whether he ought to add another year to his own age, after their eight months in other worlds. Time hadn't passed at home. But had it passed on their own bodies? Ultimately it didn't make a substantial difference.]

Could be, and will be for you at least.

[axiomed]

[ He nods slowly, still a little disbelieving. ]

Of . . . course it can be. Uhm, thank you.

[grandstanding]

You're welcome.

[axiomed]

[ He feels a little self-conscious. ]

I'm impressed you remembered.

[grandstanding]

I think I picked it up from one of your memories. I can't recall exactly which one. [Just one of those bits of information that had floated through at some point or another, during their many shared experiences.] I don't believe you ever told me.

[axiomed]

[ He nods in understanding. ]

That can happen. Things slip by when we're connected.

[grandstanding]

They do. [To punctuate the statement, he reaches to grasp Charles's hand under the water.]

[ He clasps it warmly. Tendrils of affection and candor slip through. ]

My very considerate partner.

[grandstanding]

I try to be. [He doesn't always succeed, but he tries. Leaning forward, he kisses Charles lightly.]

[axiomed]

[ He kisses back greedily, heady from the heat and the sentiment of celebrating his birthday. ]

[grandstanding]

[Amusement filters through, along with pleasure. After a while, he pulls apart. It's a good thing they're already hot and bothered from the water.]

In any case, I've let Hank know.

[axiomed]

[ He nods. He should invite Moira . . . but that seems like a recipe for disaster. He'll do something private between the two of them later. ]

[grandstanding]

[Erik doesn't bother to mention that Hank is going to ask Moira anyway. Consider that his surprise for the day.]

I came up here with Raven last week, actually.
