Erik reminds me too much of Envy sometimes, maybe.

But I know he's a person. And I'm still really sorry about it. [But it's people who are going to have to stop her or Winter, if it comes to that.]

[ He nods. ]

I guess there isn't anyone here I don't think is a person. [Except for herself. But Winter said together or not at all, so... if Winter is a person, it seems she has to be too, somehow.]

Not even yourself?

[ Don't think he hasn't been clued in here. ]

Winter says I'm a person. [So does Tenno.]

I don't hear you saying it.

[Her hand seeks out one of Charles's, not because she has any thoughts about the projecty-whatever Charles mentioned, but because it's another gesture for herself, something to hold on to. An assurance of the reality of the situation.]

Winter said together or not at all. So if I think he's a person, that means I have to be a person too.

[ Smart man, Charles thought as he squeezes her hand gently. ]

That seems fair.

My best friend's an asshole. [But that makes her smile. She's got a lot of love for Winter, nothing she'd say to him in a million years. That's now how soldiers talk anyway, and she'd just make him unhappy if she got stupid at him.]

But yeah. A really smart asshole.

Well, best friends tend to fall in that category.

[It makes sense. She's an asshole too, in her own way, considering Winter's ultimate dick move in that conversation had been one he basically stole from her.]

Yeah, I can see that. Erik's kind of an asshole too. [But she means that in the best possible way. She likes Erik a lot, after all.] And super smart.

He has always been . . . extraordinary.

...is that a really nice way of saying asshole?

[ He chuckles. ]

No. He's always been that as well.

[She laughs.]

I don't think you'd be with someone who wasn't extraordinary. You're pretty awesome, yourself.

At times, I suppose.

Most times. [She nods wisely.] Except when you're being a scrub. But that's why you've got friends to tell you to knock it off.

[ He can't deny that. ]

I'm very fortunate.

[She thinks about what Charles has said about the planet so far.] So being here... is it kind of like being on a planet full of people like you?

Close enough. They don't have my . . . strength, but they are the closest I've seen in a while.

[She nods.] That's so good, though, having people around who can understand you like that. [She knows how hard it's been for him to even talk about the telepathy thing at times, because he expects negative reactions. Not having that hanging over him at all must be amazing. She knows what it feels like when she runs across someone like Winter or Maine. A whole planet like that?

Okay, a whole planet of Winters and Maines would be... really not good. Scratch that.]

[ Yeah, sounds pretty terrifying. ]

It's certainly a nice change of pace.

Not having to be scared really is.
