[ A smile and Maglor nods, taking a few deep breaths before submerging - this time, instead of coming up when he needs a breath, he taps Mikleo on the arm and nods ]

[Awesome, that's just what he needs. Mikleo twists his staff into position, calling up the arte he'd been practicing with careful precision. It's much different from his usual artes- he has no control over air, strictly speaking, but within the ocean you can find almost anything. The elements are there, above, below, and around them. And water can be pulled away, separated, and more importantly, used to trap the rest.

It only takes a handful of seconds, but suddenly a bubble appears around Maglor's head beneath the water- an air pocket, basically.

Satisfied, Mikleo gives him a thumbs up. Try it out, maybe?]

[ Maglor watches, curiously and smiles in delight at the bubble and takes an experimental breath.

HEY NO DROWNING, THAT'S PRETTY COOL!

Have a thumbs up in return, Mikleo ]

[Yay, success! Mikleo grins and relaxes visibly, focusing back on the wildlife below them until the arte is needed again. It's an enormous relief to know that it worked the way he'd hoped it would, and with that off his plate, he can go back to fully enjoying himself.]

[ Maglor does as well, simply enjoying being able to take his time, rather than counting seconds until he has to surface again.

He reminds himself to take a look at the state of the bubble from time to time - they have no idea how long this will last, after all ]

[nerdeology]

[Once they seem to get a system going, Mikleo can focus on getting a good look at the reef himself, recasting the bubble every couple of minutes to keep it fresh and active. He's being entirely charmed by the fish, coaxing a few of the more curious breeds over to nibble at his fingers. Animals have always been intrigued by seraphim in various ways, but this is his first time really interacting with fish, aside from the alien fish in Clay's fishbowl. They're so cute!]

[ There are a few hiccups, early on - when Maglor does not catch the bubble, or Mikleo does not produce a new one fast enough. But once they get it down, Maglor is obviously having the time of his life, humming sweet and low, echoing the song of the sea back to it as he watches the wildlife.

Eventually though, he heads back up to the surface - the other problem, of course, is that he needs to make sure he can still swim back to the shore, as he cannot exactly sleep out here ]

[nerdeology]

[Mikleo follows his lead, dismissing his staff to swim more easily and breaking the surface with a happy gasp. He can survive without air, true enough, but it still feels good to get a fresh breath of air after a long time underwater.]

No, I rather think the pleasure is all mine! [ Maglor smiles back at him ]

But we had better head back, or you are going to have to tow me in.

[nerdeology]

Yeah, I think I could use a break, myself. After casting that many artes, I need to let my mana replenish for a while.

[bythewaves]

We should both head back in then - but slowly, I think!

[nerdeology]

By all means, take your time.

[He's in no great hurry to get out, though it would probably be nice to dry off for a while.]

I will have to! [ Maglor chuckles lowly as they start back ]

I think I got too caught up and I am far tireder than I thought.

[nerdeology]

A break is good, then. Will you be going into the town? I've heard there's nice lodging there.

[bythewaves]

Aye, I think so. I can easily win a bed and board with my song - I have done so before, and these folk seem the sort to accept that in trade, I think. Will you stay out, yourself, or come in?

[nerdeology]

I was thinking I might stay here. The sound of the ocean is so soothing, it'd put me right to sleep in no time... and I kind of hate the idea of leaving this place just yet.

[It's love at first sight, basically.]

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor smiles at him fondly ]

Then I think you should stay. I found much solace by the Sea in my own world - and I think it would do you good.

[nerdeology]

I won't deny that this is something I've needed for a long time now. Since I joined the fleet, there's been something... missing, I guess. Maybe seraphim aren't meant to live outside of nature.

[It's a little hard to admit; he dislikes talking about his own weaknesses, even if it's something one could easily assume, knowing what he is. But Maglor is someone who hasn't given him any reason not to trust, and may understand to an extent.]

[bythewaves]

Perhaps. [ Maglor hums sympathetically ]

Even more than the Ainur of my world, you seem very bound to your element. To be sundered from it as you are on board, must be very difficult.

[nerdeology]

You're not wrong about that. It's said that seraphim are more than connected, they are their element- they are born from it, and when they die they return to it, so the world can give birth to another when needed. Those are just old stories, but, well... legends are often truths half-remembered.

[bythewaves]

It is always wise to listen to the old tales. [ Maglor agrees ] There are often truths that can be gleaned from them, I find, even if the particulars are not exact.

And looking at you now - I do wonder if part of why I could not see you before is that you were without access to a part of yourself.

[nerdeology]

...Maybe. I always believed that resonance wasn't something that could be controlled or create, but if part of it depends on us...

[It's a lot to consider, certainly, and it gives more weight to Sorey's goals of purifying the country and uniting the people with seraphim again.]

With how much the world is suffering back home, it makes sense that the majority of humans haven't seen seraphim for thousands of years.

[bythewaves]

It might. [ Maglor hums softly ]

It is probably something of a combination of things, but it does stand to reason that if you are yourselves complete and whole, then it would be easier for others to register you as well.

Are things truly that bad, in your world?

[nerdeology]

Things are... not good, overall.

[Mikleo considers his words quietly, rolling over to float on his back, kicking idly to keep himself moving. The sunset is calming in the background, and he needs that- it's hard to think of home and the lack of progress being made with he and Sorey stuck here.]

The corruption of malevolence has spread across the world, turning countless living creatures into monsters. The land is deteriorating, plague, famine, and unnatural disasters striking without warning or explanation. The only one we think might be able to purify the malevolence is also corrupted, so before anything else happens, we need to find and purify him. But to do that... it sounds like an unbelievably difficult task. Two humans and four seraphim, challenging what is essentially the most powerful being in the world.
