Mm, well, it has been quite some time since I was able to simply enjoy my surroundings without shite obligations in my way. [can you tell she's grown fond of that word]

Mm, quite a bit. [she wrinkles her nose] Honestly, as annoyed as I am to be kidnapped again . . . it is rather relieving to have a break.

[He tips his head to the side, eyeing her.] Now that's a worrying sentiment.

[she laughs, a short, huffy noise] Isn't it? I've gone mental.

You left before I began remembering details about the "prophecy" - [she even makes air quotes, a clear sign that her team rubbed off on her] - and all the rubbish we were meant to do. They lead us around for months, only for the whole thing to be a lie.

[grandstanding]

Do prophecies actually exist in your world? --other than this one, if it was fake to begin with.

Mm . . . it is hard to say if they do or don't. I don't believe in them - certainly not now, considering. But there are many, many people who believe in those things - prophecies, fate, their gods having a particular path for them. [she waves a hand] And there is always a story or two being passed between mercenaries and thieves about treasures being linked to them. The real story behind everything that has been going on is supposedly linked to a prophecy as well, but - [she shrugs] I do not know much about that.

There are people who can see into the future, though. [her nose scrunches up in distaste] My understanding is that they only catch glimpses, but I have worked for men who live their lives based on those visions.

[grandstanding]

Seems a dangerous way to chart your life. [There's a sense of irony there. Hadn't he and Charles also charted their fate based on what a time-traveler had said? That wasn't a glimpse, though. It was someone's lived experience.]

Oh, it is. [she hums a little] A Seer's services are not cheap, and there are some men foolish enough to flaunt their wealth where they shouldn't. If they're particularly rotten or disliked, well . . . [she shrugs a shoulder]

All one needs is to be able to afford my services. [when she was a mercenary, at least; she wasn't sure what she was nowadays]

What was this prophecy, then?

End of the world shite. [she almost wants to leave it there, but . . . she sighs and pushes some hair behind her ear]

We were told that is why were brought back - every one of us had died, and the mage had sought all of us out to revive us. We did not have much detail beyond that, but he mentioned the seer, and - well, she has some legitimacy amongst the people I would work with. My cousin and I only went along with it because we wanted more answers.

[dryly] And I quite literally couldn't kill Maias, so it was not as though I had anything else to do.

[grandstanding]

[It's always the end of the world. He presses his lips together slightly at the mention of revivals, but neither of them are strangers to that anymore.]

And the answers weren't to your liking, I imagine.

No, they weren't. [she sighs, feeling her frustration start to boil up and shoves it back down] I found out my father was involved in . . . something, and it is because of that they have now involved me. The "prophecy" they fed us was a very elaborate lie, and the only truth of it all was that they needed us all alive and together.

[she scoffs] It's so dramatic and ridiculous.

[grandstanding]

Did you teach them a lesson?

[A violent one. Neither of them like to be used, and that would be his first inclination.]

[a grim smile spreads across her face]

My, it's as if you've forgotten what sort of person I really am, Erik. [there's a lilt in her voice despite the subject] That witch sent her men and whatever creatures she's brought to this world to kill us. In return, we killed them when we encountered them a second time, and I happily too the life of one of her guards.

[she rubs at her neck, almost unconsciously] I would've taken hers, too, had she not nearly killed me before I could act again.

[grandstanding]

[He expected no less. Tempest was a formidable opponent, and he'd almost pity anyone who earned her wrath. Almost.]

It's a shame you couldn't get that far, but it sounds as though you sorted the rest of them.

As much as we could, mm. [to say that she had had enough of all the nonsense was an understatement] When I return home, I will make sure to finish what I started.
