[In the weeks since Rogue woke up from her coma, she found that: a) dealing with atrophied muscles really sucked, but she at least had her feet underneath her again; b) they were on a planet with space invaders and going down there chronically endangered every single native and she hated it; c) ...so many people were gone.

It hurt. It hurt enough to drive her to public communication. She writes:]

Okay, so for those of ya who've been at this for a while... I'm comin' up on eight years in one of these interdimensional sewer stops, an' I know we're supposed ta be stay positive but sometimes... positive just doesn't cut it. Here, in no particular order, are my top five reasons for why these places are the worst. Feel free to share your own.

5. Even when something changes, nothing ever changes.
4. Old faces are new faces.
3. The absolute boredom only spiced with moments of sheer terror.
2. Explainin' the same old 'stuckness' ta every new face.

[Everybody leaves. She can't quite bring herself to write that down, though, and so temporarily abandons the post to get back on the Iskaulit and train. She heads to the gym to do very basic strength training exercises over and over and over again. At least she's gotten so she can do this on her own, but Rogue is still far from satisfied with her progress.

Much later, she'll be at Nami's bar, ordering some food and, finally, checking the journal to see if she has any responses to her list.]

You know, I was going to add to your list but honestly I think you've covered just about everything.

Don't know if it applies to this place, but:

1. Possible social experiment on trauma responses.]

1. The sheer difference in all the worlds, so you're constantly having to explain that no, you're not crazy, your world really works that way.

[There's a lot worse, she knows. But it's hard to write down all the things worse than that, because then she starts thinking about them. It's easier to focus on the one that just makes her mad.]

[After a bit of a delay.]

Yeah, seems legit. They did seem to like inflicting trauma often enough, anyway.

Yeah. I can see how that'd get irritating. ...did you ever try just not explaining?

[That tended to be what she did. If she bothered to explain something at all, and people didn't believe her, for the most part that was just too bad for them.]

I tried a couple times. It usually just leads to more headaches.

I don't know why so many people think it's any of their business anyway.

Interdimensional shitholes tend to make people nosy, I think.

That or the boredom. It could be the boredom.

The boredom and the inability to keep our memories in our own damn heads.

[Her initial post had gone unnoticed during the day, Remy having been on shift at the Space Bar and only getting a chance to go over the com on his break, making a plan to catch up with her in person after his shift ended, only to catch sight of her coming in to the bar later in the day.

Picking out her order among the list he had finished up for other tables, Remy wiped his hands clean before picking up the food she ordered and telling Nami he was taking a quick break and to give him a yell if she needed him, before heading out to Rogue's table. Setting her food down for her he also put another plate on the table too, a slice of something that looked similar to pecan pie but made with the local nuts of the green planet, before taking a seat across from her.] Hey chere.

Good point. That sorta thing never really helps.

It was worse at my last one.

Hmmm. [Rogue glanced from the salad she'd ordered to the pie to the mutant sitting across from her. She raise an eyebrow at him.] Funny, I don't remember orderin' a side dish of Cajun with my lunch. [Inviting yourself is rude, Gumbo, tisk tisk.] Take it the pie must be a peace offerin'?

Did? Past tense?

[She didn't actually specify that all eight years were spent here, particularly...]

[While he hadn't responded to Rogue's last broadcast, having not felt it necessary, he had certainly taken note of the fact that she had been gone for a while. This time he does send a response.]

The reasons for being in these places to begin with. [He finds those alternately offensive or horrifying.]

[Remy grinned and laughed at her words, before shaking a finger at her.] Smooth chere, if ya were 'nyone else I would think ya makin' a pass at me.

Can't speak from much personal experience here. So far for me the Fleet has been like one long, super invasive cruise. With really bad food.

Yeah. It happened a few times every week.

[After a moment, she realizes why that would be the case. Rogue rolled her eyes at him.] Glad ya realize the difference between someone more likely ta throw somethin' at ya than make a pass.

[But she was grinning at him a little as she said it, as if to mitigate the sting. Glancing at the meal she said:] This looks good, Remy.

[...Oh, it's him. Rogue had no idea how to respond to him.

Although she could see his point.]

Selfish, stupid, or downright sadistic.

What, seriously? You'd think they'd get bored.

It wasn't anyone in particular. It was the way the place worked.

I'm surprised how many people seem to have multiple experience with places like this. Wasn't like that at my last place.

They can be all of the above.
