[ tadashi has already decided that he's seriously going to miss this planet when it's out of range, but the ships - as confined as they are - have become home, as strange and impossible as that would have sounded to him when he'd first arrived.

still, he's back in his bunk on the bishop when he sends the message out, musing. ]

So - you guys think they make action figures of us? Little lunchboxes with our faces on the front?

[ he'd gotten, of all things, a comic book from the tree, and he's turning it around in his hands as he speaks. his voice is a little flat, suggesting that maybe his enthusiasm about this subject isn't entirely sincere. ]

I can't be the only one who'd kill to read some fanmail.

What in the world is an action figure?

It's, uh -

[ man, how to even explain this. ]

A toy? Typically with bendable joints, moveable limbs, for kids to play with.

Ah . . . sort of like a doll, then?

Yeah. They're pretty interchangeable, except -- aren't dolls usually soft? [ he's always just kind of imagined dolls as 'huggable,' tbh. ] Action figures are usually hard plastic. Durable, you know.

Sometimes, yes. I have seen them made of wood as well. [there's a moment of thoughtful silence, before:]

I think I have seen plastic before. They make utensils out of it, yes?

And a lot of other things.

[ his tone is gentle, not judgmental. ]

I do not think it has been - discovered? Created? Where I am from, no.

Why would you want people to mail you fans?

It's kinda hard to have an action figure when there's no action.

I wasn't being serious, anyway. This a lot slower than what you're used to?

Why not? They have been so forthcoming about wanting our feedback in all their previous decisions, haven't they?

I bet they do. And little versions of the ships, and a big Marsiva you can store them all in when you're done playing.

Oh, Light, I hope not... I get enough comments about my ears as it is. The last thing I need is some kind of cursed doll made in my image.

I was just kidding around. Mostly. That'd be pretty wild, though, wouldn't it? Imagine having karate chop action.

Oh, not a clue.

I know they're yanking our chains here, but it's hard to tell how much sometimes.

On the one hand, that could be cool. On the other, I hope not. It feels exploitative.

Not to justify it, but - that's pretty par for the course here, isn't it? Assuming we're really on a show.

But like, the extra mile, you know?

Maybe that's where the money comes from.

What kind of ads even run with a show like this?

Oh, reality tv show producers can invent drama out of anything.

[Depending on how close Tadashi is to the kitchen, he might be able to hear the answer through the walls, rather than just his comm.]

I'm pretty sure there is no fans or fanmail. But I'd hope any figures of me would set anyone who bought them on fire.

It'd be fun, right? And then you could rearrange the crews however you want, maybe sub in some other action figures you already have for new arrivals. Good marketing for whoever's in charge.

Right! We'd all have to come up with special moves so they could incorporate them into the figurines. It'd be a big project, actually.

[Joking or not, you've got her thinking about it, now.]

Probably. I never looked, but they have action figures of a lot of people.

Yeah, I suppose. I just can't fathom why a - anyone would be so interested in watching us as a form of entertainment and b - how they even get those broadcast signals out.

Personally speaking I'm seeing this as some sort of experiment more than anything.
