You've already made up your mind and simply blindly accepted that because the Resistance and the Republic claim to fight they don't have to be held accountable for using the same tactics as the First Order.

I can't defend Tarkin or Palpatine though but I remember the days of the Empire and I remember how the Republic was more than willing to seize control by wiping out cities if they had to, just as the pilot claimed the Empire did.
