A ► TEXT TO THE WHOLE CREW (yes, that means you)

Coil's birthday is 9/18. embarrass him. or give him a present if you do that kind of thing.

B ► IN THE CARGO BAY

[oh ho ho, guess who's built himself a new toy? it's the resident bully, now armed with something he's testing out in the cargo bay.

you may have seen him putting it together over the past week, but now that it's complete... it looks like some kind of an arm-mounted crossbow, if it was missing the actual "bow" part. it wraps around his forearm, just flat enough to theoretically be shoved under a sleeve. the mechanics of the thing are open and visible, making it fascinating to watch as he lifts his arm, tugs down on a trigger at his wrist, and shoots a bolt across the room at what must be several hundred miles per hour.

he's just shooting upright pieces of tin siding, but oh boy, some of those bolts make an ugly hole through the stuff. he stops every once in a while to adjust it, picking at things with his screwdriver, tightening wires, checking pistons--all while it's still on his arm, because this is a practical test.

it's still too loud, in his opinion, and the trigger mechanism isn't sensitive enough for him... but the work makes him smile through his skullish facepaint (which is either charming or kind of terrifying, depending on who you are.)]

a ) cargo bay

[Wow. He's in here a lot. He's a bit frustrated with things with his crewmates, and taking it out on his body. He's worried about Syeira, he wants to pour Zhas' face paint down the drain, he doesn't know what to do with Coil and his birthday, and they've got this weird new guy now.

He's been going to town on the punching bag, but now he's at the weights. He's been trying to bulk up a little more lately. FOR NO REASON AT ALL not because he has a girlfriend or anything. His eyes are a little bigger than his muscles, though, and the barbell goes to his chest. Whoops. Maybe he should have had someone spot him.]

b ) hallway

[Arthur's on his way from Syeira's room with a few boxes, wrapped sloppily in colored paper. He's not looking where he's going, and runs straight into your character, the boxes going everywhere.] Shit, I'm sorry.

UM. The 18th was three days ago Zhas ???

[Laura had stepped silently into the cargo bay a moment before Arthur had seemingly lost control of his weights. His heart beat and his breathing clearly indicated he was struggling, but that didn't necessarily mean he needed help. He could've just been taking a long time to do what he needed to? Maybe? Probably not.]

[Still, after maybe fifteen seconds the teen stepped up next to the weight bench, her green eyes slightly narrowed as she looked down at him.]

...Do you need help?

What a coincidence, it's the weird new guy.

"Watch where you're going!"

The demand was immediate, but it was followed by a slightly more curious examination of the scattered brightly-colored boxes.

How old is he?

Kylo Ren, to put it bluntly, is not a nice guy. He's socially awkward at best. But as long as he's on board the Red Fish, you guys have a pantry filled with actual food and someone who's surprisingly decent at preparing it.

So come into the galley and sample what happens when you combine orange drink, flavored protein gel, powdered milk and a little sugar. Presenting... The Space Smoothie!

[Coil can hear the awful noise in the cargo bay through the closed medical bay doors, but that's not why he's grabbing his communicator and pecking out an irritated message.]

what are you doing

[oh, hey brother.]

what does it look like how old are you turning, again?

I'm very sure that the 18tg day of the 9th month was three days ago. Tomorrow is the 21st day????

only comes once a year. i lost track

[it takes him an extra several minutes to respond, on account of him double-checking the ship's calendar. and also counting.]

where are you getting that?

[...he does finally respond, twenty minutes later.]

19 if you don't count stupid time bullshit.

6 months got lost somewhere. 19 and a half? strange birthday age, though.

[wow look at him not reacting to either point!]

[why are people always in his cargo bay? Coil is stopping by for his own round of overindulgent training, but someone has apparently already beaten him to it.

he's content with just glowering from the doorway while he decides what he's going to do about this, for a little bit, until something interesting suddenly happens. it's enough to make him decide to stick around after all.

so, while Arthur struggles, he'll have a visitor skulking around the side of his vision, casually getting a closer look at what's going on here.]

That's not so old.

still a kid. so get him a present or something.
