[what is it about public network forums that invite sleep-deprived people to post weird, existential questions at three in the morning? but one insomniac has it bad this week, and the forest has not been playing well with his already-tenuous grip on reality.]

what are your dreams like?

[and if anyone on the SS Red Fish is also still milling around this late (or morning), they can find Zhas at the kitchen table, slumped over a bunch of star charts, trying to take notes and compare to a book he has open. his face paint is a little smudged on one side, maybe from his constantly trying to prop his head up against his hand.]

[Arthur saw the text on the network when he woke up out of a dead sleep, disturbed by a dream, and scrolled through the network for a distraction. He was planning on answering it after he got a snack, but lo and behold, there is the man himself. He wanders in to rummage through the cabinets, dressed in sweats and a t-shirt, barefoot with his hair smooshed on one side of his head.]

What are you doing? [he asks curiously, sparing him a tired glance.]

[What is with these questions lately.]

Mostly, they're not like anything. Not that I remember anyway.

[She sleeps better now that she has a permanent person keeping her company, but that doesn't mean she sleeps great. She's up at the ungodly hour, and shuffles into the kitchen looking sleepy, rumpled, and a little strained.

She isn't at all surprised to see Zhas there. In fact, it's like a balm to walk in the kitchen and see him at this hour. She comes up, touches him on the shoulder and signs: Coffee? As in, does he want some, cuz she's making it.]

is that unusual?

[what a pretty pair they make. his coat is folded neatly over the back of the chair he's sitting in, but he's still dressed like he's ready for the day. he's got shoes on and everything.

he doesn't really react with Arthur walks in, running a hand through is own hair and scratching distractedly at his scalp.]

Mmrhm... [a very profound answer. he looks up, briefly, before looking back down again.] ...Learning. Something... [mumble mumble, man he sounds kind of out of it.]

it's normal to forget, right?

[he looks up when she enters, his exhaustion-heavy gaze finally finding a little bit of clarity. he hadn't been expecting her to be here, at least not consciously... but it's still kind of a relief that she's shown up.

maybe he'd been hoping to see his late-night friend without realizing it. he nods, looking back down at his papers, because he might as well commit to a full night.

she can see the basics of what he's doing over his shoulder--nothing crazy, just some basic star charting and attempted labeling of computer-prints of the previous solar system.]

[He frowns, popping part of a bar in his mouth and chewing while he stares at Zhas.]

How long have you been up?

[She recognizes star charts. She's seen them in other places back in Faerun. But first she needs coffee. Zhas has got her soundly addicted to the stuff.

Once she's made a pot, there's two mugs, and the one that's made the way he likes it, nudges at his shoulder. And since she's standing there, she takes the time to look at what he's doing in earnest.]

[as much as he's been trying to work, he's grateful for the excuse to put down his pencil and disengage from the task for a little while. he takes the mug of dark-as-his-soul coffee and leans back in his chair, un-crunching his frame.]

Trying... Never done stars before.

[She stays standing by his side. She's tired, but the coffee has a purpose and sitting would go against it directly. She might lean slightly against Zhas as compromise. After the past few reunions, she's come to terms with the fact she's a touchy person, and it makes her feel better when she's touching her friends in some way. It reminds her they're real and that she's alive.]

It looks good for not having done it before.

[She looks at his smudged skull face, his tired eyes, and wants to ask how long it's been since he slept. But she doesn't. What would it matter anyway? He'll go to sleep when he's ready.]

Never made one either, but I've seen them before.

Can I ask what brought this on?

that's fair. i'd rather skip sleeping altogether.
