[The video feed opens in one of the ship hangars in Solace's hub - the business end, judging by the many crates and boxes stacked against the wall and the audible power drilling in the background. Erik is also there, actually making a fleetwide video intentionally for the first time. He's not interested in making it last long, so he gets right to the point.]

For those who are still repairing their ships or looking into the services here, it's worth mentioning that it's possible to hire power tools and do the work yourself. Most of the shops won't; they prefer to sell their own services. But there are one or two places that hire out their equipment by the hour. Having watched some of the shops work on other vessels, it's just as good an option, and likely cheaper for some.

[He pauses for a moment, shutting his eyes with faint irritation.]

And. If anyone is in need of space-grade duct tape, I have spare rolls... several dozen of them.

[Bulk buying has never been this exciting, folks. Those looking to catch Erik in person will find him walking around the outside of the Heron in the hangar, or working on fixing the twisted, bent parts of the shuttle dock door outside the ship. And yes, that crate of duct tape is there too.]

[she was going to comment with her thanks and maybe tease him or something (the usual) but the second part waylays her first]

What are you doing with space ducks?

[Erik stares at her for a moment, not understanding what she means immediately. Then he blinks.]

No, duct tape. [He enunciates it more clearly.] It's nothing to do with birds.

[her nose wrinkles a little]

It still sounds like you are saying duck to me - if it does not involve ducks, then what is it?

[There's a moment where the video shifts wildly, tilting down to the ground as Erik reaches into the crate to fetch something. When the image resettles on him, he's got a roll of silver tape in his hand.]

This. It's used to seal things, though it's more a temporary solution than a permanent one.

[she leans forward to squint at the screen before leaning back with a face]

I have never seen something like that before. [the list of modern things she understands is pretty long, but duct tape was a new one] What is it used to seal?

I could take some to have on hand on the Windrose. Duct tape can only be more helpful when we don't have an engineer, right?

How is the Heron holding up?

[That could be a serious problem, if the Windrose was one of the worse-hit ships. He gives a nod to her second question.]

We're doing fairly well - minimal damage, other than the interiors and the shuttle dock doors. What about the Windrose?

All manner of things, really. It's intended as a patch-up.

[He gets his fingernails under the edge of the tape and pulls it up, that lovely tearing sound coming through the audio.]

Specifically I've been using it to seal any breaks in the airducts that occurred in the attack.

[she blinks a bit widely at the sound, head tilting as she watches]

I . . . see. Is it a special cloth, then? Or - it looks like . .. what is that word - plastic?

Something like that. The reverse side is adhesive, which is how it sticks to other things.

I can save a roll for you, if you want.

If you would, please. I would like to see how it works in person.

How are you feeling, by the way? You are less cranky.

[He nods, and throws the roll over his shoulder to land back in the crate. Her comment does make him roll his eyes slightly in response.]

I'm doing better. It's been nearly a week, after all.

[aside from a lip twitch at him rolling her eyes, she keeps her expression straight]

So it has. I'm glad you're doing better. And twice as glad you are not a cranky thing.

And how are you faring?

[He doesn't need to dwell on her teasing for long.]

Not assigned to the ship, but Winn's an engineer. [So they're covered now. They just didn't have anyone on board to try and hold things together while they were being attacked.]

Doing better now than before. The shields had been completely out and there some external damage.

I saw some of your work during the fight.

[that's for the best. Though the question makes her nose wrinkle]

Still bloody exhausted. I do more sleeping than I would like.

I need some!! [Desperately.] I-I don't have any money right now, but I could trade you something?

[He pauses for a moment, a bit surprised. He had half expected no one to actually need duct tape.]

I don't need money for it. It didn't cost that much, in the end. You can trade me a service at a later time if you want.

[He has a hundred rolls; taking some off his hands is practically payment.]

[He purses his lips, knowing that the Heron's shields held throughout the battle. The damage would have been much worse if they had failed - or not been there to start with.]

Is it being worked on?

Ah - that. [There's only one thing she could mean, really, if she wasn't on the Iskaulit.] If any others had been within range, I would have done more.

[Not mentioning the fact that the effort knocked him out.]

[Look right now he has more holes than ship, he needs anything he can get]

That would be really great. Where did you find all of it?

One of the shops here. It seems to specialise in short term solutions for repairs.

[And there was no option to buy just a couple of rolls, so he cut his losses and went for bulk.]

Just about everything is in bulk here.

[A grunt. He's the same.]

Hopefully it passes soon.

It should pass when my magic returns. It is unfortunatley a slow process, up here.

That's very true. I tried to get some wire and they wouldn't let me buy any less than five meters. I wonder why that is?
