Who run the world? Girls!

Who: Kara & the Fleet!
Broadcast: Yes!
Action: On the Tourist
When: Mar 8th (or space equivalent)

[ Kara waves into the camera, well recovered from her ultra embarrassing boyfriend's announcement ]

Hi everyone! On my Earth, we have a day called "International Women's Day", which has been celebrated for over one hundred years. The whole idea is that we take some extra time to recognize the awesome women that we know, and pay attention to our contributions to society. The reason it's necessary where I'm from is that gender equality isn't a reality yet. Kind of crazy, right? But for reasons I have never actually understood, not being from Earth, is why the Patriarchy is still a thing.

Anyway, I was thinking that we could make it Intergalactic Women's Day. You can reply here to talk about the awesome women in your life, or, you know, just thank them for being cool. Maybe make them a cake? Just because?

Definitely make them cakes.

Well. [ there's a lot to unpack in kara's message, but peggy's hesitant to take too heavy a hand to what is clearly a well-intentioned message. so, instead: ] I never say no to cake.

Celebratory of life and the meaning in one's life... A cake does seem appropriate, doesn't it? That sounds like the sort of joy behind a birthday. From what I have been told.

[While he ponders this, he leans his head to the side, and his pale hair falls across his forehead. With each passing second, he looks more and more pleased. Like this has the potential to be wonderful.]

Making her a cake could be good.

[Oh, Kara. Well, Natasha can't say that the spirit isn't in the right place.]

Leaving aside the question of patriarchy for the time being, any women you want to celebrate today?

Frankly, I'd settle for the reverse. Equal work for equal pay.

[ hm. she doesn't want to discuss herself -- not exactly. so she needs to consider her words carefully. ]

During the war, all sorts of people -- women included -- got a taste of careers they might never have had the opportunity to pursue. And, once the fighting was done, they were expected to go back into their places. Like hats, popped back into boxes with tissue liners. Not all of us wanted to be boxed again.

[Wait, not from Earth? She looks human. Weird. But that's be something to investigate later. For now, the big red battle princess has questions.]

I fail to see the point of such a holiday. But that does not mean I do not have questions.

Who is the Patriarchy, and if they are so troublesome, why have they not been destroyed?

[This is probably why she wasn't put in charge of communications, her idea of diplomacy is... different than others.]

And what is a cake?

[ she isn't all that certain she would be impressed with it at all -- certainly, her yardstick isn't so easily satisfied as simply learning that a woman had held high position. after all, what stops the dottie underwoods of the world from seizing control? ]

From your lack of specificity, I assume you mean the American president. [ she's trying to be nice, really. ]

I keep hearing about this Patriarchy thing. I'm not sure it exists in my world, though we've got a lot of your standard pigs, I guess.

As for women-- I don't think I know any that aren't awesome.

It's still impressive, make no mistake. [ -- after all, she's pre-thatcher. hell! she's pre-elizabeth ii. as a queen, at least. ] But you'll forgive me the jab at the easy assumption that an unspecified president would, by default, be an American one.

[ it's almost paradoxical that she should rattle so at american exceptionalism. though it's more like wry good fun than a serious complaint, even if many people can't tell the difference. ]

Thank you for being cool. [Smiling at her through the screen.] Should i start listing all the ways you've made my life better now? I don't think I'm going to be able to figure out the cake. [He's going to try.]
