I'd like to offer my services to any exploration teams going down into the depths. My alchemy can be used to reshape metal, and the weapons sold in the shops here might be useful for whatever is lurking. I also have a Security augment, so if anybody needs some muscle to come along on their expeditions... I'm game.

I just hope we can figure out what's going on. I'm working under the assumption that Atroma's going to move us onward soon, whether we want to go or not... and we'll have to leave these people behind, no matter what condition they're in.

[A nod.] I don't think this "Atroma" puts much thought to their decisions. So this alchemy science could help us guess what's going on?

And since we don't know what we're going to encounter down there... we'd want to make sure weapons are up to par, too.

They really don't. My friend Toph- she's since left here- was a pilot. She's blind.

Perhaps, and help us fix what's wrong. I don't know much about medicine, but if we're venturing into an unknown place, I can help make sure people are armed, at the very least.

Yeah. That would... trouble me, to say the least. They won't be around for much longer if they can't eradicate the source of this disease.

I, too. [ Maglor says soberly ] They are good people, kind and open-hearted. It would grieve me to know they were lost.

[Impossible to keep the poker face at those news. Shiro's visibly alarmed.] They let a blind person pilot? And the ship didn't crash?

[Unbeliable. It takes him a moment to return to their main topic.] Protecting the people that are venturing in - that I can do.

[Al nods his agreement.]

I admire that they're keeping their civilization open and greeting travelers despite it. They've lost a great deal of lives, but... their life goes on, too. They deserve whatever chances we can give them.

Hermione and... [Al scrolls up to double-check a name] Shiro have both expressed interest. Has anybody been down there yet to see what we're up agaist?

Yeah. I mean, the ships have autopilot, and she did have people to help her, but... I suppose they found it funny.

[Al smiles.]

That's my main goal. I'd... I'd like to find a way to help the Dasioe if we can. I don't know if you've been around this planet much, but they don't have much time left.

Hmm... Well, we've got another shuttle, so we can offer one of those. I know Allen's going, but we still don't know what's down there. [He offers a big smile anyway] Whatever it is, I'm sure I can outrun it with my piloting! We'll be fine!

I think so too. And there is evidence of rich history here and great culture - it would be a shame to lose that.

It would be. A people are nothing without their history and culture... no matter how few they are in number. [Al is suddenly reminded, in a small way, of the Ishbalans, and how they continued to thrive and live together, despite losing their holy land.] I knew a people back home called the Ishbalans whose home had been decimated- by war, not disease- but they picked themselves up and began to rebuild despite their circumstances. It gives me hope for the Dasioe.

We also don't necessarily need to use our own ship's shuttles, do we? I'm sure we could borrow someone else's if need be.

Hope is a valuable currency, and a strong drive, if one nurtures it. Enough to change a world.

I do not see the joke. [And he has a pretty morbid sense of humor...]

I've been around enough to notice. You're right, we should work on it asap. Have any others offered to join too?

Me neither. Toph herself thought it was hilarious, though, so that's something.

I've had several volunteers, so we should have enough for a decent-sized crew. And if we find we're in over our heads, well, we can always make a run for it.

I made friends with several of them. Hope was what allowed them to rebuild- and holding onto their history and the memories of those they'd lost. It was going to take time, but they were on their way to reclaiming their holy land and returning their people to their former status.

Then we must do all we can to help them, I think. I will look into recording everything down, if I can.

I'm thinking I'm going to venture into the Depths with a group of people. Maybe the source of the problem is down there, and if so... so much the better.
