[ Signy has paid the confetti and pudding no mind at all, and if the transportation was jarring, she’s still relieved to be somewhere else, with people around. With a view she can take in and maybe start to do something with. Her posture is pure military commander, and if she’s wearing rather and repaired clothes, there’s a Captain’s patch on her jacket. She looks mid thirties, other than her eyes and the silver-gray of her hair. She should really do something about that, since Norway isn’t part of Earth Company any longer. Then again, she’s not part of Norway at the moment.]

This is Signy Mallory. Formerly Captain of the Norway in the Merchanter’s Alliance. If there’s anyone here from Union or Mazian’s fleet, I’m sure we can find a way to get along.

[ It hurts to say ‘former’ more than she expected. Damn her pride, and, too, her worry for her crew. Di can handle it, of course, but until she believes why she’s been taken, there could easily be some greater threat that her abduction is a part of. ]

I have to say, from what I’ve seen of this fleet so far…I’m still waiting to be impressed.

I’m given to understand that the Atroma are controlling us. What resistance attempts have been made to date?

[Lumiére has tried to cushion people form his general...self as best he can over the networks. Voice instead of video, things like that. He absolutely can't do that when newcomers land on the bridge, though, because if he doesn't move, he's just going to come off as more creepy in the long run than if he does now.

And so, the very-out-of-place candelabra standing on the communications station gives her a flourishing little bow. ]

[ This is most definitely weird. ]

[ Robot? Probably not a bizarre alien species, although that's theoretically possible. ]

[ If he's competent, Signy will deal with the fact that he's a talking candlestick. Probably. ]

[The welcoming fanfare's fairly audible from the kitchen, where Eugene has been working on a batch of bread and, conveniently enough, just put the loaves up for their first proofing. He shrugs off his apron, gives his hands a quick rinse, and is still drying them off with a towel when he swings by the deck to greet the newcomer, coveralls flour-speckled and unruly hair held back with a bandana.]

Hey, welcome aboard. [A quick wave, then he's on his way over to grab a pudding, curved metal foot of his prosthetic clumping conspicuously against the flooring. He'd feel more ashamed about going right for the snacks, but hey, kneading bread is hungry work.]

I didn't have much of a choice.

[ Signy studies him, but it's impossible to get much of an assessment in this place, where she doesn't know of any of the standards.

Still, he wouldn't meet the Norway's as is. ]

Have you been in this place long?

I've been in the fleet on and off for . . . huh. Almost two years. The Wonderduck's been the last eight months of that.

[He tosses his towel over his shoulder and offers his hand.]

Eugene Woods, ship's cook.

I'm the pilot, I suppose.

[ She'll take the hand and shake it. Her grip is firm and the handshake is brisk. ]

What ship were you on before?

Norway's a military carrier.

I provide defense and protection for those transporting goods and the stations which wish to remain neutral.

[ She's the only military ship in the Alliance, so poor luck to him perhaps. She can see why he'd think that, though. ]

[Jennifer heard the fanfare when her new crewmate arrived, but it's a bit before she goes to look for Signy to say hello, and when she does, she looks a bit tired. However, she greets the new arrival with a smile.]

Hey, welcome to the Wonderduck. I'm Dr. Keller, Captain of this ship. Uhm, I can answer any questions you might have.

[ A respectful nod.

Signy's recent experiences with being under someone's command is Conrad Mazian, and she knows she can expect this to be different. Still, she tries to think of how she would want a new crewmember on her ship to act. And she tries to think of the uncertainties she has. ]

The Vanquish. Not that any of the ships in the fleet are that different from one another.

[ At least Vanquish is a much less silly name than Wonderduck. ]

Surely they differ based on their Captain's style?

[Lumiére, no, she can crush you like a bug. He taps his base onto the top of the communicator station. ]

I am communications. Though I'm still getting used to it. I have only been here a week, and we have nothing like this back home.

No sense wasting time.

[ Like half his response has been. ]

Where's back home for you?

[Rude. ]

You would get along with a friend of mine. He doesn't waste time, either.

[He chuckles to himself at the pun that literally no one else here will get. ]

France. 1752, which I am told is very far back in the past for most people here. Still, I am willing to learn!

I've never been to Earth.

[ France...The place, not the ship. ]

You're the second person I've met here who thinks it's the eighteenth century. It's been 2353. I don't see how such a disparity is possible.

Rules? [She's a little surprised by that, but she recovers quickly.] Well, uh, I don't have anything written down. We don't... really do formal rules and policies here.

An oral tradition is inefficient for a ship of this size, given the turnover, but I'll listen carefully.

[ There are always rules and policies, even on merchanter ships. ]

If there's another member of the crew you'd like me to get them from, I can comply.

Kitty Pryde, current captain of the Twin Roses. [It does slightly amuse her to technically be a captain now. She's been used to people showing up here and in the prison before this calling themselves captain of this and that.]

I think the Atroma are the only real threat, but they work in different ways.

[ One isn't any less captain just because their ship isn't as good as the Norway, Signy knows. No ship is as good. ]

What do you mean by 'different ways'?

Kitty works.

They don't come at us directly. They have their augments and the directions they lead us in. I'm sure they are thinking through every stop and how it can get them what they want. And I don't believe any of the glitches are actually accidents. [Okay, maybe occasionally. What ever runs perfectly? But her default is suspicion when it comes to their captors.

When an unknown fleet of slavers attacks us, I suspect it's all part of the plan.
