[ Well the ship could only stay empty but for her captain for so long. And I'm sure the audience is just DYING to know what happens when these older folks show up and find their ship is captained by a 17-year-old with an attitude problem.

Complicated could mean a great many things, Joel. [ a great many things he apparently doesn't want to talk about. but she leaves that comment open-ended so if he really wants to...he totally can.

[he's had a couple of days to figure out facing lioriley without freaking out, so he's... trying to stay calm. if he's going to see her here, he probably won't see her back at home when he makes it back. maybe he can... chill out with her.]

[ she frowns at his answer, lines flickering faintly. ]

Are you used to a more rambunctious atmosphere, then? I doubt that would do very well for your sleeping habits, either. [ was that a joke? we just don't know. ]

Danger. [ she repeats, opens her mouth, closes it - does that a few times as she debates what she wants to say to that. ] Then I suppose peace and quiet is a welcomed reprieve from what dangers you may have faced back home. It may take some getting used to, but I am sure you will manage.

[ she finally steps into the kitchen properly and leans against one of the counters. ]

[ it's less joel making her awkward and more lioriley making herself awkward.

she ends up laughing though, quietly. the lines along her skin flicker once more, brighten just a little. ]

That is why we work to replace the title of 'strangers' with something more familiar. T'would not be so bad to sleep near friends, would it?

[ lioriley falls silent, shifting somewhat uncomfortably on the balls of her feet. maybe that wasn't a good topic to bring up. ]

You are right, trust is a very important aspect of friendship - of any relationship, really. [ she should leave it there. just agree and go along her merry way, but she can't. because she's an idiot and she refuses to leave this blatant tension in the air. ] You are not a man who trusts so easily, I take it?

I ... [ this time the lines on her skin seem to dim, her eyes quickly averted to stare at the adjacent wall like she's a child that just got scolded. she is being nosy, isn't she? ] Forgive me for assuming, for prying. [ for existing in your general area, apparently.

she isn't sure what to say now - not sure she should say anything for fear of insulting him or annoying him further.

eventually she manages something, voice low; ]

... Why do the... [words??] ... the lines on your skin. Why do they glow?

[tell me about you so that maybe i hate it less]

Huh? [ well that catches her off guard. ] Oh - the glowing is simply a result of the magical energy infusing with the rest of my body. [ there she goes with magic again! she tentatively steps closer to joel, extends one of her hands so he can see the lines that curve around her fingers. the lines are raised above the skin, and they pulse with what seems to be the beat of her heart. it's weird. ]

I have come to find comparing them to human veins seems to suffice. Though so far as I am aware, human blood does not glow.

[okay so it's a magic thing. he looks so tense, but he's... really fucking trying.]

... And they get brighter and dimmer because...?

A biological reaction to my magic. They are directly linked to my heart, my brain, every part of me - and react accordingly. [ like now, her heart is steady, and so is the slight pulse of her lines. ]

Normal for my people, at any rate. [ humans tended to react oddly to it at first, too. maybe that's just something all humans did when they saw weird glowing elf women. ]
