[ Ritsuka arrives on the SS Blameless in a confusing fanfare of confetti. Apparently he'd arrived once the Shuffle actually began, because he looks incredibly disoriented. It had been a very quick jump from the Marsiva to the Blameless, and he's trying to get his bearings.

He doesn't even care that he has confetti all over him, not when he's noticing his clothes are suddenly very dry, and none of the aches and pains he'd been feeling after his mother's freak-out are there.

His tail twitches apprehensively, ears swiveling at every sounds as he calls out: ] Hello...?

[ okay, so he's in space.

because why the hell not, at this point in his weird life?

but that means there's questions to be asked. how it's possible, where they're going, what the heck does a communications officer do-- ]

How are you supposed to tell adults from kids if they don't have their ears?

it must be the cat ears atop his head he's talking about, because he does have a visible set of totally normal, human ears.

Mostly, if they don't have their ears, then they're an adult. They can look older but that just means they're a grown-up, not really an adult.

What do ears have anything to do with one's age?

For humans on Azeroth, is mostly just how mature you look. Older teens to adults grow facial hair, their features aren't as rounded. [He has to think.] Taller, of course, and changes in voice but that starts at puberty.

There's also the matter of age. I'm eighteen so I'm an adult by most standards.

[Oh no, poor kid. He's really scared. Shiro's face softens as he crouches in front of Ritsuka. How do you speak to kids again...]

I know this is scary, but hear me out, alright? You were brought to space. All of us were - brought from different worlds. There's a big chance you won't find anyone from home here, but your crew will support you.

Generally it has quite a bit to do with height but I suppose that isn't a universally applicable standard.
