Broadcast: Yes
Action: Iskaulit
When: Shortly after drifting (late September)

Hi everybody. My name's Sorey; I'm First Mate on the Huntress, but uh...
[He pauses. Sighs and starts over.]
A lot of people are missing. People we love. People who we don't know if they'll be back; there's a chance, definitely, a good chance, but that doesn't mean the pain and fear and the grief will go away. Sometimes, it even gets worse. The uncertainty is almost as terrible as the loss itself.
I'll be conducting memorial services in the Interfaith Center for the next week, every day at noon. Anybody is welcome to attend. It won't be anything fancy; lighting candles and burning incense, tea, reading some things from texts I've picked up along the way. If you don't want to come but you'd like me to say something for you during the service, feel free to leave it here. I'll add it to everything.
Also, if you'd like to come by just to have some quiet, or for a listening ear, I'll be here most times. There's an area where you can pray or set up altars or anything that you'd find more comfortable; we just ask that you cover up any symbols you make when you finish. If you need any help building anything, please let me know, I've got a shop area back on my ship.
Religious ties aren't necessary, either, and there's a meditation room next door if you just need some space to think. Please come by if you need anything.

[Sorey can be found puttering about the Interfaith Center on most days during the current drift. He's usually in the kitchen, sometimes with Mikleo, as well as praying at the small elemental altar in a corner of the prayer chamber, separated from the lounge area by a curtain.
Sometimes he's curled up on one of the couches in the lounge with a book or a set of hand-drawn maps, frowning as he scribbles notes and erases lines.]

action;
It didn't look like it involved channeling aether at all. But regardless of the source, I cannot doubt its results.
[He probably should introduce himself at some point.]
Alphinaud, by the by-- I should not have made you wait so long for my own name. And you are Sorey, yes?
action;
action;
I arrived just days before the comet was sighted. This has been... a sort of Calamity that I was not prepared for.
action;
action;
He can't shake the weight of his fallen Braves that easily.]
I... I handled it. Whether I handled it well is difficult to say.
[He's brand new and doesn't have many friends. It sure is a Thing.]
Scarcely five years ago did a cursed moon devastate my world--- not unlike that meteor. Though I have faced those demons and vanquished them, still the reminder unnerves me beyond belief. I found myself wondering if the dread wyrm himself would rise from the ashes again.
action;
[Sorey sighs, sitting back and running a hand through his hair.] Not that that'll make you feel any better, I guess.
action;
[He ducks his head.]
I believe that we can learn from this. We cannot prepare for every eventuality, but... If we make plans, stock resources, and draft plans for how to allocate them, surely--
[His voice cracks with emotion.]
Surely we could...
action;
action;
Pray forgive me, [he whispers brokenly.] I thought my tears spent, but it seems I was deeply mistaken.
action;
I get the feeling you've already done your fair share of apologizing. [Sorey rubs his back.] So don't worry about it.
action;
[He wipes surreptitiously at his cheeks.]
... and I, as well...
action;
action;
[He finally dares to peek at Sorey from behind his bangs. Though tearful, his smile is grateful.]
I find it is easy to lose oneself in the midst of an emergency, but without sufficient distraction, it has caught up to me once again. Thank you, Sorey... Your heart is kind and generous, even though you hurt as much as the rest of us. Pray remember yourself as well.
action;
action;
Kindness is a balm for many ailments. But unless you can find my family, I doubt there is anything corporeal.
[He sighs a bit. Might as well let it out-- it's easier to open up to Sorey than the Eorzean stranger who is not quite a stranger.]
I lost my grandfather to the Calamity I spoke of. We were closer to him than our own parents, though Alisaie moreso. My thoughts keep returning to her. I did not leave a world at peace, and I fear for what may come of my absence even if the timeline is preserved. And I-- I miss her, simply because she is my sister, and our last reunion saw her near death on my doorstep.
She is so much more capable when it comes to action. Her brutal honesty, her cleverness... She never hesitates when it matters.
action;
Sounds like you're going through a lot right now, [Sorey concludes after a moment, because Alphinaud had just come to deliver some flowers, and it had taken some encouragement but once he began talking it just all came out. Sorey's reminded of Uraraka, how she'd pasted on a weak and shaky smile as she made mochi in the kitchen, kneading the paste over and over as she talked in the same tone of voice how she's glad to know her parents are okay, but how she missed her father so terribly.]
You know, [Sorey says, withdrawing from Alphinaud to give him some privacy to wipe his face and sitting back on his heels,] the person who ran this place before me, he was like an older brother to me. He's gone back home, and I know I'll probably never see him again, but I feel a little better doing some of the same things he did. Do you have anything you can do that'll remind you of your sister? She might be able to lend you strength that way.
action;
I am sorry you have lost such a dear friend. [He sniffles a bit and blows his nose briefly. That's not bad advice, actually...] We are twins, identical in almost every way. We were trained in the same magicks. We even took the same fencing lessons, though she always disarmed me effortlessly.
[He could never compare.]
Everything reminds me of her, to be honest.
action;
action;
I-in a way, yes.
[But it's no replacement for having his sister's advice or her strength. Not really. He'll just have to make do.]
action;
...thank you for sharing your stories with me. You know, it's difficult here at first, but I promise; the more you do that, the easier it gets.
Or that's how it is in my experience.
action;
And thank you for lending an ear. You have helped more than you know.
[He closes his eyes again and takes a breath.]
... I hope one day I can return the favor.
action;
action;
I would quite enjoy that, actually, and even moreso if it were freshly brewed. [Tea comes out of the box in the kitchen, but it isn't the same. Not even by a long shot.]
action;
action;
A-are you certain? Something like that cannot have been easy to come by...
