[Cyril has been meaning to ask this of the fleet since he had met Leilani, but his own pride had gotten in the way. However, the general mood of wariness this new system brings and the news of a violent race of people on it makes him realize it's even more important to address this. If he's put in a dangerous situation he needs to make sure he has all of the resources he can to protect others and himself.

So, when the broadcast starts now Cyril is seen from his mid chest up. The missing arm is noticeable as he's pinned up his tunic sleeve on that side. He feels very nervous, but his face is carefully crafted to be relaxed and optimistic.]

Hello friends.

I was wondering about the medical technology here when it comes to ... prosthetics. [The word is new to him, so he isn't sure about the pronunciation.] Back home, I was building artificial arms and hands out of wood and metal. I was perfecting a cross bow attachment too. When I arrived here, I had my basic pseudo-hand with me.

[He holds up the prosthetic in question. It's made of polished wood and rather well crafted, but it also doesn't allow him to grip or hold things. It's mostly to put the humans who live in Hightown at ease as he shops at the market.]

The advancements here, though. They are so incredible. There has to be some advancements in this area too - after all I doubt I'm the first person to find themselves disarmed all of the sudden. [That's a terrible joke, but this topic is so uncomfortable for him he can't help but make it.]

Is there anything that you can tell me?

No, you can't be the first. Were you injured in battle or was there an accident? (She can handle rudimentary healing, but she can't fix a complete loss of a limb, unfortunately.) Adjusting must be hard enough without a replacement.

That is a very complicated story, I'm afraid. But to simplify it a bit, I'll say that a friend removed it in order to save my life.

I can always make something myself, but I wouldn't have the knowledge that some others here might have. I bet there's someone here who could make something much more functional.

Your life is definitely worth more than a limb. (But still. Ouch.) I'll keep my eyes open for engineers. Can you protect yourself without one in the mean-time?

Yes. That was one of the first things I made sure I knew how to do after it happened.

[there's a great deal of hesitation in her voice; she's only spoken openly about her own "disarmed" problem with a handful of people. Hence the privacy of the call already]

. . . I've not come across any in my own searches - just parts for the one I have now.

But I've only just begun looking in the last month or so.

There's a lot of conflict back home as well. It seemed important. I also have a lot of very good friends who want to make sure I don't lose anymore.

Certainly, if you like. At the very least, acquiring metal and wood and other such things is rather easy, no matter the stop.

That's a good point. If we can't find someone here who can make something, I can always continue what I was doing back home.

From the sound of it, what you made back home was fairly useful, at least. I didn't know people made - attachments? That's rather clever.

I wanted to make sure it was useful. A friend and I spend our nights helping out locals. Sometimes that means we get into fights with beasts and bandits alike. It's important to be well armed.

[A pause, as he realizes what he just said.] And that pun I didn't even mean.

[a faint snort, amused] I would not have caught it had you not pointed it out.

You'll be alright in that case. (Friends do make all the difference. And family. But those bonds tend to intermix and blur.)

I have more experience than most with being toyed with by higher beings. I'm not worried about adjusting for myself.

Oh, but I did so of course I had to point it out.

[He offers her a smile and then gets a bit more serious, cautious.] Do you mind if I ask why you were looking for these types of resources?

That... isn't very reassuring.

I take it things back in your home are complicated?

I don't know if any of us can be reassuring.

They were. The world has been reborn, so things should be calming down.

[there's a pause as she takes a deep, slow breath] I am not disarmed, but I am a bit . . . mm, short-handed. [see, she can talk pun too] I have been looking for a better prosthetic as well.

I feel as if there is an interesting story around that 'reborn' part.

A long story. There was a war, gods and long slumbers. Myself, my sister, her fiancé, a boy, a father and two women from the past were all strung into the conflict against our will. We gained power beyond imagining and we experienced...loss. A lot of loss.

But we defeated the god who was at the root of all our struggling. Then we were reborn on a new world.

I'm so sorry.

I'd be happy to make something for you too, if we can't find something more advanced.

I'm sorry for the loss. [He says it sincerely. That part he understands at least, the rest seems pretty foreign, except for the having gained power that one didn't want.]

Did you remember the old world once the new one was born?

As am I.

I appreciate the offer. I could - ah, show you what I have, as well. It is not advanced by any means, but it functions. I imagine someone here could replicate it.

We do; no one else does. (That's okay. They can either share the story or not. She doesn't even care if the generations to come don't believe her. They are safe - they exist - and that is what matters.)

I won't forget any of it. I don't want to, either. The lessons I learned, the things I accomplished have helped me be...myself. Not who I thought I needed to be.

I'm not sure I fully understand your story, but you do say some things that resonate.

I wouldn't be myself either if not for the magic that touched my hand and lead to me losing my arm. There were losses for me as well, but everything that happened, no matter how traumatizing, allowed me to grow.
