Happy Feast of Winter Veil. Ah, I know most of you don't know Azeroth's holidays but it coincides with a lot of some earth holidays, if I'm remembering right from last year.

[He's looking a little awkward about this, it makes him miss Belthazar a little. He still has the blood elfs gifts to him, and is wearing the cloak he'd made him. And now he's holding onto a very poorly wrapped... something. Poor wrapped and wrapped in some really awful paper.]

This wasn't marked. Except for me. And this? [He raises the tag to show the red lipstick print, and an ace of hearts. And then pulls the paper off. It's easy, all of it kind of haphazrdly taped together.

Once it's revealed, he freezes. For viewers, it's just an ornate staff. To Khadgar, it's much more.]

Well, that's a hell of a face. [Merlan's voice is quietly curious as she scoots in with two cups of tea.] I can't tell if you hate it, like it, or want to find the nearest airlock and send it into the nearest sun.

[She waggles a mug carefully at him.]

Tea might help.

[It's like he's snapping out of a daze when Merlan joins him. He appreciates her company though, accepting the mug and reaches with his other hand to tug her close enough to sit with him.]

It's Atiesh. [It takes him a second to remember he might not have explained that at any point.] The greatstaff of the Guardian. It belongs to the Guardian of Azeroth.

Ah, that explains the face, then. [Her laugh is soft, a gentle tease behind it as she eases in next to him and leans against him to study the staff appreciatively.]

May I?

[Her tea floats as she lets go of it to gesture at the staff. Merlan won't touch it if he doesn't give her permission but she can't help wondering what an artefact like that genuinely feels like. She's never found anything like it,
herself. Burning curiosity has been her singular purpose as she flings herself down the Mage's path. It fascinates her as all the things from his world seem to do.]

I admit, I do not know anything about your holiday, but happy...Feast of Winter Veil. I would be happy to learn anything you'd like to teach about it. Just because you are alone from your world doesn't mean you should miss out on celebrating your holidays, after all.

Winter Veil is celebrated over the course of a couple weeks. We celebrate with feasts, with friends and family, to celebrate the season and coming year. It's also the time of year that Greatfather Winter visits and brings gifts.

[And then Khadgar smiles.]

There's also snowball fights and mistletoe, general mischief. Those we can manage at least, I don't know about the feasting. I'm not much of a cook.

[It should probably be strange that she knows him so well already but it's not. Not for him.

After she asks, a moment passes and then he nods. Even lifts the staff for her.]

It's got more weight to it than it looks. [He doesn't doubt she can handle it, just wants to spare her the surprise.]

All things of power and responsibility should have weight to them.

[Merlan smiles and shakes her head a little, her fingers brushing his lightly for a moment as she takes the staff. She can feel its age as she lifts it and lets it come to rest against her lap so there's no temptation to use it. Her fingers touch down lightly as her eyes close to study the magic that washes over her.]

Hello there, beautiful. [It's a quiet, soft greeting. It may not be sentient but it carries its history with it. I think it would be overwhelming to try to see its past, though, so...none of that.

[He tries, he really, really tries.]

Oh, it is similar to Christmas- at least the way it is celebrated, though. Feasts with your loved ones and giving them gifts. And you know, a good feast is always one of the best parts. Sitting around a table and eating with the people you care about the most.

_{[Yuri is glad for EVERYTHING right now. He has his lover and he has their poodle with him. AND the skating rink is working. He has everything he could wish for. So a holiday that sounds totally made up is very welcome to him. He's eagerly watching as Khadgar opens the gift.]}

It looks so cool! Can you use it? Does is do something amazing? I bet it does!

There's just all kinds of holidays that happen around this time, I guess. But the important thing is buying lots of stuff for your friends! Or making them presents.

...that's a real cool stick! You like sticks, right?

....er.... that is a very fancy .... walking stick?

[He has very little idea what is happening.]

[She isn't wrong. Atiesh is powerful, wielded by all the Guardians Azeroth had had, held by Medivh before being delivered here to Khadgar.

It felt like he was being mocked though, after turning his back on that duty, on the Archmages and their expectations, killing the Guardian corrupted by fel and a demon.]

I never could help myself admiring it.

I always enjoyed the feasts best myself. That and enchanting snowballs to pelt the back of the Archmages heads.

[The apprentices needed to find their fun somewhere!] Maybe we ought to see about getting one put together for everyone in the fleet.

[Not Atroma though.]

[His touch is still light and careful over the staff until he hears Yuri. And then he can't help a little smile.]

Ah-

I can, I just never have. It's the Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian. I would have inherited it from Medivh if I'd taken on the title. I can use it to channel my magic.

I'll have to do some shopping then. I'm usually not to great at gifts. [Belthazar had been easy. Merlan too, kind of. She'd been admiring his cloak, it made sense to give it to her.]

It's a staff, actually. Atiesh, it's called.

[Cogsworth gets a soft chuckle before Khadgar shakes his head.]

A staff, actually. It belonged to someone I used to admire, we mages can channel our magic through it.

Oh I see!

[Something flashes through his tiny blue eyes then.]

...does that mean you will be able to ... break our curse?

[He gets a grin now.]

I think I can. I don't think I'll need the staff, I had some potions ready before the ships crashed. They were ruined but I had enough of the ingredients left to mix a few up again. And took the precaution of storing them better, just in case.

I .... really? But we can't really ... drink, you know. Will it work orally?

It should but in the off-chance that it isn't enough, we can try a spell or pouring the potion over you both.

I would hope the archmages would at least be able to take it in jest?

[LOOK. LOOK. The last time he was involved with pissing off someone magical he ended up like this. He's CAUTIOUS. ]

That would be a lovely idea! We could certainly use the respite while we have it.

.... Well, it is worth a shot, I suppose?

And here it is. [She glances at him for a moment and then her fingers find his hand, pulling gently so their hands rested on the staff together.]

Doesn’t it wait for a good man to wield it not for himself but for others? You don’t want the title but every time there is danger [Her fingers curl a little against his.] you’re right there, helping, fighting, and protecting people you don’t even know.

This is who you are, Khadgar. Discard the title if you really must but the staff...

[Merlan drops her head against his shoulder with a soft hum.]

Its home is with you.

They always told us back home that it didn't matter what you bought so long as you bought something and spent lots and lots of credits! Because that way it's a gift to the economy too.

Oh, a staff! Like the kind you hit people with? That's a cool name for it.

Most of them did. Some of them didn't like me so my mischief was... usually dealt with.

[Some of the most boring detention-like punishments ever.]

Let's do it then.

I don't want to hurt either of you but you're right. Everything is, isn't it?

[Won't know something unless you try.]

Ah- I suppose I'll have to do some shopping then. I haven't really spent much the past year except for clothes and potion ingredients.

Actually, it channels my magic. It's a magical artifact from Azeroth.

That sounds like there are a lot of sour people you have had to deal with.

[Oh Merlan. Khadgar's expression goes soft and he gives her hand a little squeeze. And then tucks his head against hers when she leans against his shoulder.]

You have a silver tongue. [Comes a gentle, affectionate tease. And then, he can't help himself, he kisses the top of her head.]

It truly is ... but I am willing to try if you are.

[She laughs softly, wrinkling her nose a little as she snuggles into him.]

Mhn, how do you think I get myself out of so much trouble? [Her fingers curl a little more around his hand.] Then again, I get into as much trouble as I get out of - what a terrible thing.

[There's a long silence and then her voice comes softly.]

Khadgar. You are wonderful and I-- I cannot count the ways you have changed my life for the better.

Yeah, you're probably doing great, then. [...she guesses. She has zero idea how money works, still. Numbers are confusing.]

...oh, that's super cool! Like... what kind of magic. Can you shoot flames and stuff? [She's absolutely sure she's seen stuff like that in vids.]

[There's a soft chuckle. Of course it gets her into trouble as well.]

I'll just have to make sure to be around enough to help you when you can't talk your way out of trouble.

[He can't help another soft kiss.]

So are you. I'm not sure you realize how much you've changed my life.

They're good people. [He manages a smile.] It's just me. I was always too thirsty for knowledge, they disapproved of my being the next Guardian.

[She shouldn't visit Azeroth then, with their gold and silver and copper.]

Fire is one type I can use. I can use ice and arcane schools of magic, make potions, enchant things.

[Slowly, Khadgar nods and tightens his grip on Atiesh.]

If you're willing, then we will try. We'll have to set up a time when you want to try. Maybe in one of the ships cargo bays.

So they did not like you effectively climbing the ladder?

He cleared his throat, a wavering sort of smile on his face.]

Well! I am game when you are.

Mmn. Please do, my first instinct is always to walk straight into a giant mess. [She shifts a little and the staff moves to rest before them both with a touch of her telekinesis. Her smile softens further at the kiss.

Merlan brushes her lips against his jaw, her lips curving.]

I probably don't. But I do know that it's been a very long time since I've felt content. [Her brow wrinkles with amusement.] How strange is that?

Oh, neat, so you can do a lot of different stuff. Like... what does enchanting something do?
