Captain's Log - Sing That Sweet Melody
Who: Jim Kirk & You
Broadcast: Yes
Action: On the Tourist at First and Later on the Iskaulit
When: Jan 4 - Kirk's 32nd Birthday
[ Video ]
[ The transmission has a soundtrack this time - the dulcet tones of The Beastie Boys' Sabotage. A personal favorite of his, evidenced by his head gently bobbing to the 'beats and the shouting' as Jaylah had so fondly referred to it as. Hard to believe that had been years ago now. ]
You know, there are times that I believe that Atroma knows way, way more about us than we think it does. That the whys of ripping us out of our times and our worlds is a lot more purposeful than we might think.
This, for instance.
[ He goes quiet and makes a motion with his hand to indicate the beats and the shouting, or to Kirk, the classical piece playing. ]
I got this as what I can only assume is a combination Christmas and birthday gift. It's nothing but Sabotage remixes. Which, coincidentally, is probably one of the most significant songs in my life. Crashed my first car to the song - which, not surprisingly, lead to my first misdemeanor. I would sing this at the karaoke bars in college, even a bit during Star Fleet Academy on our nights off. And this song helped save the Federation, possibly the universe - also, coincidentally, on my birthday.
[ He goes quiet for a minute, just seeming to listen to the song, though his eyes seem far away. ]
Anyways, if anyone would like to borrow it or get a copy, drop me a line. I'm always happy to share the classics from my world. It really is a great song. Hopefully next time I get a full album and not just the top twenty remixes - though I question the one that uses a piano. I don't recommend that version.
[ A soft sigh and then quieter than before - ]
Two years and thirty-two, huh?
[ End transmission. ]
[ Action - Tourist + Iskaulit/Malum ]
[ His offer made, Kirk would spend a bit more on the Tourist listening to the songs, going down to the freight hangar to blast the music, and probably do a little bit of a workout while he did it. It was the sort of music that made you want to move, after all. He would stop between sets to flip through data on a pad, sometimes making notes, and then going back to his exercise with music that vibrated his bones.
Thankfully he has left the music behind when he goes to the Malum, because, well, it is his birthday, and he has a tradition on his birthday - a good solid drink. Normally he would share it with Bones, get chided about calling his mother, and then they would toast. That was it. No sense in changing the routine now, though he would have to do it without Bones. He thought about inviting Chekov, but, well, he didn't want to bother the other man.
So he could be found later at the Malum, in his reserved seat because even on his birthday he was the official honeypot, sipping something good and from the top shelf. He didn't use his birthday for anything, except a good drink and could you blame him? ]

Action; Tourist
Happy birthday.
Re: Action; Tourist
[ Kirk spotted the motion out of the corner of his eye, that tingle that said someone else was there. He clicked off the music and smiled at his lover, looking at the parcel with a touch of surprise. He knew Fenris wasn’t one for gifts, and he didn’t make much of his own birthday in the first place, so the present was enough to make his heart bump a little faster for a minute. The condition of it was enough to make him smile, even chuckle a bit, though he did appreciate Fenris’ efforts. ]
Thank you. Hope I’m still young and handsome enough for you.
[ He came closer and bent down to steal a kiss. ]
Action; Tourist
[He returns that kiss, awkwardly offering up the horribly wrapped package. ]
I...um. Got you a gift.
Re: Action; Tourist
[ Kirk took it, giving him an amused look because there’s no sugar coating your lack of wrapping skills, Fenris. ]
You didn’t have to.
[ But he’s tearing at the wrapping, slowly working it open and honestly curious as to what the other picked out for him. ]
Action; Tourist
[And nothing stops Fenris from doing what he wants to. Inside the package is a bottle of scotch, but there's also a... it might be a scarf? It's kind of holey and the wool is all mismatched. The elf rubs the back of his neck. ]
Honestly, it seemed like a good idea at the time. I don't think I have the dexterity for it.
Re: Action; Tourist
[ Kirk blinks at the piece of fabric as what Fenris said settles and finally clicks. He looked up sharply, surprise written in his face. ]
You made this? For me?
Action; Tourist
I...yes. It's...not very good.
Re: Action; Tourist
[ Kirk unraveled the piece and worked it around his neck, fluffing it up and beaming at Fenris. ]
I love it. Thank you, Fenris.
[ He stepped in to kiss him again, his words bright with their sincerity. He appreciated purchased gifts, but the thought that Fenris had spent time and personal effort on something for him? It touched him, truly touched him, and he knew he’d treasure the piece for as long as he lived. Which sounded terribly dramatic in his own head, but it was the truth. Like when you knew you’d keep a certain picture, he knew he’d keep the scarf and wear it too. ]
When did you learn to knit?
Action; Tourist
I learned while I was in Tevinter. I rarely do it, to be honest. It's not something I'm skilled at.
no subject
Well, this makes this all the more precious then. It's certainly better than anything I could ever do.
no subject
Well, I'm glad you like it at least. I was not quite sure what to get you.
no subject
[ He shook his head. ]
You didn't have to, but I appreciate that you did.
[ He leaned in again to take a kiss. ]
Though maybe you'll indulge me with a bit of cake and a drink?
no subject
That is an indulgence I have little trouble meeting. [A pause, as he kisses the corner of Kirk's lips. ] And I know I didn't have to...I wanted to. You're...important to me.
no subject
[ A flush brushed across his cheeks and neck, wrapping his arms around Fenris and giving him a brief, light hug, as always careful not to be to tight or restrictive. He took a moment to take a breath of Fenris, smiling at the smell of his lover before pulling back. ]
Damn it, it's my birthday, stop making me sappy.
[ His tone is warm though, letting go so he could pick up his things from around the storage area. ]
no subject
He stands back, watching, tone lightly teasing. ]
Ah right, of course. Woe betide anyone think you sappy.
no subject
It's a terrible quality trait for a captain. Empathetic, sure, but not sappy. Makes me sound like I cry over puppies put in teacups or something.
[ He huffed and tossed his towel over his shoulder, adjusting his scarf and moving toward Fenris and past him to head out of the storage area. ]
Certainly not that I get emotional over my lover hand-crafting me a gift!
no subject
Ah, I see. You must be sure to show them all how very tough and unmoved you are. Perhaps you should punch a wall, that would get your point across.
no subject
Perhaps, but then I think I would anger the doctor, and that is a sin that every Captain should avoid.
[ Can you hear Bones screaming from eight universes away, Fenris? ]
no subject
It's alright, I'll protect you from him.
no subject
[ It is really Kirk's life would be suffering? Or would it be justice for what he put Bones through on a regular basis? ]
Oh? Are you sure? I mean I appreciate the bravery, but Bones is a beast all his own when it comes to practicing medicine.
[ Laughter echoes the halls as he walks, making for the kitchen first to see if there is something sweet for them to share. ]
no subject
[He's only like...20% kidding. ]
no subject
[ He laughed at that, imagining that face off and shaking his head. ]
Hopefully it will never come to that. But I appreciate your valor.

Oh, always. It's one of your more charming features.
