I was just thinking about scars... I mean — umm! That sounds kind of weird, doesn't it. But I got a few, and I was thinking about how people who fight got a lot of them. How do you feel about yours...? The kinds you get when you fight. I have one here — [He pulls the fleet's custom jumpsuit to show a nasty scar on his shoulder.] from when I got shot! And this one — [He holds up one of his legs, floundering a little to keep it in the screen. His head isn't even in the shot anymore as he struggles to balance; the scar, unlike the rounder one before, is thin and longer.]

I got this one when I broke my leg fighting a godman! And this one...!

[He sits up, pointing to the little scar on his arm.]

This was when I was hitting cannibals with trees!

And this one —

[He holds up the other foot, where a littler scar sits on the top of his foot.]

... I kicked a table on accident once.

[February 14th... Morning.

Well. The ship sudddenly looks...

... Frightening. Child-cut hearts everywhere, balloons, confetti, more hearts, more confetti, all over the tables, the hallway, the doors of everyone in the crew; it is V-Day pandemonium. And judging from Takeshi's happy little hum as he sits at the table and cuts out more hearts, the person who had caused this chaos is hardly a mystery. Even Hoi Hoi the panda is sitting nearby, gnawing on a squeaky toy and wearing pink and red and white beads like he's two pawsteps away from Mardi Gras.

... Happy Valentine's Day. (˵ ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡°˵)ﾉ⌒♡ (◕▿◕✿)]

[ Boy, Takeshi sure has a lot of scars for being just a little kid. He can level with him a little bit, at least. ]

I'm okay with some scars. [ He lifts up his shirt to show the gunshot wound on his abdomen. ]

I got this one when I got shot by a hunter. It was an accident, at least. [ Carl pushes the sleeve up on his right side to show a thick scratch. ] I got that when I fell out of the tree in my front yard.

[ His fingers hover hesitantly over the bandages covering the mess of tissue where his eye used to be. ] This one I got lucky with. Somebody was trying to shoot my dad and they missed.

I'm not really okay with that one.

[Crowley steps out of his and Felix's room and into a pink heart monstrosity. He stands stock still for a moment, taking it all in and seriously considering just turning back into the room and staying there until this is over.

He wants a coffee though, so he walks casually into the kitchen, pretending not to see any of this bullshit. Just stare dead ahead, don't look at it, don't acknowledge it. He'll only take it as encouragement. He nods at Takeshi as he steps into the kitchen, starting to make a coffee largely by miracling the ingredients together into a cup and pouring boiling water into it. ]

Morning.

I have some scars. One of them is quite obvious.

[ It's on her face, literally; but she shrugs her shoulders, rolling them back. She's trying to face her scars and her demons, the obvious and the not so. ]

My neck has some from a werewolf bite, and I have one on my forearm, too.

[Maggie had definitely not been expecting the sudden explosion of hearts appearing all over the ship. She found it disarming when faced with it first thing in the morning, until she realized who the culprit was. With tea in hand, Maggie stands over Takeshi as he sits at the table and continues cutting paper hearts.]

Caught red handed, mister.

[She smiles warmly, ruffling his hair.]

Do I want to see what you've done with all this in the Med Lab?

Whoa...

[Spoken at the gunshot wound on the abdomen, that is. They're shot buddies!

Though he's really feeling bad for Carl's luck, all things considered. Sure, Takeshi's been shot back home, but when you wake back up in the apartment nothing ever lasted. He hasn't a single scar from his days on missions... He doesn't seem disturbed or anxious about talking through this, though — the implied missing eye is only met with quiet focus. It's important to pay attention to someone's scar story.]

It makes sense not to be okay, if it's one you got no choice sharing...

But... if it means anything, it's really cool that you're strong enough to survive it!

You're — You're badass!

[Takeshi looks up from his work, beaming with his own pride. But also joy over who is rising and shining!]

Happy Valentine's Day, Mr. Crowley! I love you!

[That's how you do V-Day, right? Telling everyone you care about that you love them?

It's a great holiday that should last way longer than a day...!!]

Whoa!! A werewolf bite!

[You're gonna make his head spin, gosh.]

One time a creepy mouth-alien tried to eat my head, but I didn't get any scars from it...

U-um, but you know! Your scar is really cool. You're pretty and tough-looking!!

[A smooth operator, this one.]

[SO MANY HEARTS, MAGGIE. SO MANY HEARTS.

He smiles up, a bit impishly.]

I promise I didn't put hearts in the way of any medical stuff! I'm a pro captain, y'know!

[So obviously there are hearts hanging around in there, too.]

It's Valentine's Day! We gotta have as many hearts as possible, that's what I learned.

[Crowley looks PHYSICALLY WOUNDED. Shot through the heart, and you're to blame. He stares at Takeshi for a moment, as if trying to comprehend exactly what has just happened to him. ]

...Yeah. No. I'm having a do-over.

[He's turning around as if to head back to his room. ]

Good, I'm glad.

[It's sweet, even if sappy romantic holidays are kind of like a stab to the heart for her. Being a widow does that to you, she supposes.]

Are you giving people Valentines or did you just get as far as the decorations?

[Is she going to have to expect a surprise singing Valentine or something cheesy?]

That's right - they're on my neck. Luckily, I didn't turn into one.

[ But, oh. Creepy mouth aliens... Hermione blinks before she just nods and accepts it; she's heard of stranger things.

Even if she goes a little pink. ]

It makes me look tough?

[desiring tea, Tempest steps out of her room a little later into the morning (closer to afternoon, really) and wanders to the kitchen, yawning and rubbing at her face - which means she misses most of the decorations. She comes to a stop in the doorway of the kitchen, a greeting on her lips when she finally notices what's going on.

She doesn't know what holiday this is . . .

. . . she doesn't want to know what holiday this is.

So instead, she abruptly turns and tries to make a quick escape]

[He's quiet as he answers the broadcast, having curled up on a seat in the bridge with a cup of tea. Seems like no one gets out of childhood without scars of some kind...]

I hide mine. They remind me of when I was too weak to protect myself. [He taps his mask with one finger.] Then I turned it into a part of my work uniform.

[ Jayden sleepily walks out of her room, prepared to all but drag herself to the kitchen so she can make a huge pot of coffee and then probably drink the whole thing. But after a few steps, she realizes things are a bit off - things are a bit more... pink and red. ]

... Oh my God.

[ She's quiet for a few seconds. ... And then she snickers, and then she laughs. Holy shit, Takeshi seriously decorated for Valentines. This is... this is actually hilarious.

She finally finishes her walk to the kitchen, unable to keep that amused as all hell smirk off her face as she starts making that coffee. She nods at Takeshi when she sees him making more hearts, Oh my God. ]

Looks like you were busy last night. And this morning.

Those are quite some scars. You'll get more as you grow up.

Y'know, there are still some I have to come to terms with, but they're proof I survived. I heal a lot faster than most people, so most of them don't stick around.

[ He moves his shirt aside to show the scarring around where his metal arm meets his shoulder. The raised and angry flesh at the arm's edge his hard to miss. ]

So, you were throwing trees at cannibals and I missed it? That's a damn shame.

[ABWUH

He pitter-patter follows him-]

Wait! Where're you going? I've got a valentine for you!!

[He grins proudly.]

I do have Valentine's! Would you like yours, Miss Maggie?

[PLEASE SAY YOU DO I WORKED REALLY HARD ON THESE DANG]

Of course it does! It means you were in a scary situation and didn't let it defeat you!

Don't you think so? Scars are people hurting you, but you getting right back up. Nobody should mess with someone who's got a load of scars; they'll survive and kick your ass!

[He leaps up and out into the hallway, ready to barnacle onto her.]

Happy Valentine's Day! I love you!

[DON'T YOU RUN AWAY I HAVE CANDY AND A CARD FOR YOU]

Oh... That's kind of sad.

[A kid's honest, y'know? But he considers it carefully.]

You shouldn't have to hide it, but I understand... I think it means you were strong, though.

People with scars mean they fought hard enough to still keep living.

Aw... I feel really bad I didn't get anyone anything. Valentine's was never really a thing back home - not for a long time.

[And certainly not without Glenn.]

I'd be happy to have mine, though.

[He gives a grin and a thumbs up that turns into finger guns.]

All thanks to you, Miss Jayden!! You're a great valentine!

[You have wreaked havoc upon this ship, this is your fault.]

[Man, Bucky's so tough. Takeshi hopes he'll be that tough, when he's older...]

Oh, yeah! I was pushing them over to help protect the villages there!

But also, so they wouldn't try to eat me. That, too.

It is, but getting scars means you learned a lesson that made you stronger.

[He doesn't mind the bluntness of a child's assessment. What they lack in filter, they generally make up for in empathy.]

I became so strong back home that people started to become afraid of me. Once your skills reach a certain level, there are very few things that can really hurt you anymore.

[ It's a very sweet view of scars, and Hermione wishes she could agree with it totally, but... It endears her all the same, something soft and fond settling over her before she breathes out. Optimism had been taken from her, but at least it survives here. ]

That means I'll be able to kick anyone's, um, ass, right?
