Waking up on the Marsiva

[Manji awakens with a start and falls out of the welcome bunk with a shout.]

RIN! I’M COMING!

[The slam on the floor is what first helps him realise that he’s not where he was before. There wasn’t nearly enough snow.] Where the hell am I? [His voice is gruff and angry. He is in no mood for games as he strides down the hall, a surly, scarred man in a black and white kimono. Missing an arm doesn’t make him any less intimidating.] Where am I? Who is responsible for this!? SHOW YOURSELF!

[Rin was freezing somewhere! He didn’t have time for being out among the stars! He needed to--- wait, did he just pass a window with nothing but stars outside?

He stops and trails back to stare dumbly at the window.] Oh… [Well, that’s different.]

”Accidental” Video - Open to All

[Sometime after Manji and Makie are reunited and have gotten past that whole: My boss wants me to kill your boss thing - oh, god please don’t hurt me Makie awkwardness, the video feed on Manji’s device is turned on-- only the video is very shaky and being filmed upside down.

And there’s a very “mansplainy” voice being broadcast out to everyone.] --and that’s how that works. At least I think it works that way. Now this thing! [The camera is given a vigorous shake.] I’ll be honest. I’m not really sure what this thing is for. I just found it. It’s very loud. Kind of annoying, really.

[A slender hand reaches into view briefly, and then the communicator is carefully set the right way up. Makie stares down at it briefly, then retreats out of sight to leave Manji staring blankly in her wake.]

Eh? What’d you do that for? [He hasn’t figured out he’s broadcasting yet, but he has figured out one thing.]

Wait. Do you know what this is? [He shakes the camera in Makie’s direction, sounding completely shocked.

Makie...just stares at him. Predictably.]

[Memory of the sterile room she finds herself in takes a while to seep back, and for a long while Makie had been content to lie in bed, staring at the ceiling. She can still feel the disease in her lungs. It's an old friend by now. But the other hurts are long gone.

It's not really surprising.

She doesn't really move until she hears the yelling echo down the hallways. Familiar and surprising. It takes her a moment to sit up, tucking her shawl close. Manji has already thundered his way past before she can get to the door, pushing her palm against the plate to slide it open.

...right about the point Manji was demanding those responsible show themselves. Whoops.]

[Manji turns towards the sound of a door opening. More than ready to give the “person in charge” a piece of his mind. No, it didn’t matter that he was currently unarmed (literally) he was angry and god help the fool who just stupidly decided to show their face—]

[Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.]

[Lets see how dead he is.]

Is Anotsu here?

[He doesn’t have time to waste on her. He had to find out what happened to Rin now so he cuts straight to the chase.]

[Makie regards him quietly, features more drawn and thin than the last time he saw her. She keeps her distance, arms still folded into her shawl.

...then she notices the hang of his kimono. His arm? Surely he didn't lose it in coming here. Something's off.

[As always I am a woman of few words. Unless I'm oversharing in a fight, you know how it is.]

[Kitty browses through the network, catching a new voice. He sounds annoying. Maybe she'll deal with him later. She's ready to scroll past when another voice catches her attention and she stops in her tracks. Well, stops, flips her own video on and calls out for her former crewmate.]

Makie!

(OOC: Kitty obviously wants Makie. I'm happy to have a thread with both. However you want to roll!)

[Welp. If he's shocked she adjusted his grip, he's going to be more shocked when voices yell out of it. Specifically, one calling for her.

Makie has retreated to a nearby seat to rest, but she hears Kitty. A moment later, her own comm unit switches on and she peers back. She's as pale and gaunt as she was when they first met, and for a long moment Makie stares at her like she's a stranger.

Then her eyes soften. Her memory's catching up.]

Kitty. You're still here.

[She'd hoped her understanding of how to use the device was reason enough to believe her memories were back, but the look she gets from Makie and the changes in her appearance make her doubt it again until she says her name. She gets a relieved smile.]

Always. And I've been the only girl on the ship thanks to you. [Though Merlan had been with them briefly.]

[Sorry, Kitty. She looks more confused by the banter than amused-- just give her a bit. It's been a while, things have changed--

--but she is relieved to see you here. It just feels odd. And distant.]

I'm sorry to have left you alone with such company. [That does seem the right thing to say.] I... how long has it been?

[She doesn't mind that Makie takes her time in reacting. She figures a little banter is still easier than being peppered with questions and Kitty has them, so it's her way of staving her own curiosity off a little and letting the woman adjust. At least for the moment.]

About four months? [She could tell you almost down to the hour she last saw Winn, but she's less confident with this estimate. For the most part even when people are important to her, maybe especially when they are, she tries not to dwell on marking that time. It certainly doesn't do anything but make it harder with Winn certainly. And she's lost a lot of people over her time in Marina and Drift. And back home for that matter. It would practically be a full time job.]

How long has it been for you? [So much for not asking questions.]

[Don't mind this beleaguered tax accountant eyeballing you guys from his own bunk as he scrolls through the communicator posts. He just wants to make sure nobody's gonna get killed, since that dude is a spaz and that lady is giving off gentle 'kill u' vibes.]

[Manji visibly relaxes just slightly. Maybe he'll get to keep his head today after all.] Good. I don't want to fight you, Makie. Right now, I don't see any reason why we should, do you?

[Don't mind the shouting in the background you two. Please happily ignore the idiot in the corner.]

Wait? You have one too? How does this thing know your name? Is there a soul trapped in it?

Wait, four months?! You've been here before?! Why didn't you tell me?!

Yes, I'm trapped between two devices. Boo. [Dryly.]

Huh! Never seen a haunted... whatever before. [Someone tried to show him a haunted blade once, but he spotted the string.]

[Now that it's been established that Anotsu isn't here, and neither is Rin, Manji has been able to start taking in his surroundings a bit more.

[Katara, a little wobbly on her feet, is in the dining room. She is streaming water out from a cup into a small glass tube that is a part of a bracelet and frowning as she does so.

Seriously, why leave her the bracelet and take out the water? It wasn't as though there wasn't water in the atmosphere, in the pipes, in the cafeteria...]

Ahm. Makie?

[It's not usual for people to return once they've left, honestly. There are a few people who cycle through Sam's life more frequently — uh, Cas and Dean, really — but Makie is certainly catching up with them now. Good on her, consistent and unexpected appearances are a true Winchester trait (that nobody wants or asks for). He's distracted by the guy, too, of course.]

Did you make a... friend?

[Sam's face comes back to her more readily than others. They've been through a lot more, what with ... Diereadh. That was it. Lord, how did she forget so much?

Her expression is maybe a little more thawed for him than others. Her tone... not so much. Because that question.]

No.

You, obviously. [Mm one-armed scarred-up samurai yeah, immortals yeah, but not often the two together.] You're being loud. [At least he doesn't sound like he's complaining? Just stating an observation.]

Makie! You're back, do you- can you remember anything? It's me Sorey!

[She remembers it all by degrees. It's strange. She still feels disconnected, but she thinks here, she just has to smile.]

I remember you, Sorey. How have you been?

[Sorey's whole face lights up, like seeing her has completely made his year. Because it kinda has.]

Oh, I've been as good as ever. I'm so glad to see you again; so many people have missed you terribly.

[Oh. Four months. How long has it been? She's trying to remember when she came the first time. Before she went to find...

....]

A turn of the seasons. [It's an absent answer; she's still calculating, thoughts elsewhere. And then taking a breath.]

From spring to winter. Closing on a year. I think.
