(( ooc: This is a blanket content warning for blood/gore/death. So! There are zombies ahead and you’ve found yourself on the waystation! You have two options: evacuate, or fight them off. Things of note to remember: Being bitten or scratched are the easiest ways for infection. We don’t suggest being eaten. Magic will be hit or miss depending on player preference/discretion. Characters who become zombies will be treated as in-character deaths. Standard rules apply! The event will last a total of 24 hours. Have fun, and enjoy all the undead things. [ The Fleet has been floating along its predetermined path for the past few days, getting further and further away from the Yadrolla System and toward unknown territory. Along the way, those oh-so convenient waystations continue to pop up at their usual intervals. Identical in every way to every other, boring waystation. Neat, right? There are even some of those familiar orange-skinned aliens and some human travelers milling about and generally minding their own business. It’s a good place to stretch your legs, get sodas of questionable flavor, and take those nifty new pets for a walk!

Interrupting the general peace of the waystation, a shrill siren starts, and a robotic voice comes over the intercom as well as all communication devices on the station and surrounding spacecraft, repeating a monotone message. ]


ATTENTION. THIS IS AN EMERGENCY. LOCKDOWN IMMINENT. ATTENTION. THIS IS AN EMERGENCY. CALMLY EVACUATE USING THE NEAREST EXIT. LOCKDOWN IMMINENT..

[ Soon, it becomes apparent to those on the waystation what the emergency is. A gaggle? A murder??? Just.. a lot of undead. They’re not in any particular hurry, shambling and stumbling along.. until they spot what looks like some good eats. That seems to get them excited, arms stretching forward, teeth gnashing, and more growling than any sort of verbal mishmash meant to be words. THEY’RE NOT A WORDY PEOPLE, OKAY?

For those looking to escape, it’s quite easy to outrun them unless you’re not paying attention to your surroundings. Corners can be tough! Just don’t get bit or scratched and all is well, except for their incessant attempts at making you a snack. For those who haven’t come across them before, or have run into some variation of them in another world, they’re resilient up to the point of losing their head or the brain being destroyed. Limbs being broken or missing don’t seem to slow them down, just send them a little off-balance.

All they know is attack and eat.

For those of the fleet still on their ships, they gravitate around the waystation, seemingly not wanting to go anywhere. There is a short window of time from the emergency alert to the entire waystation going on lockdown. Those wishing to help evacuate can do so- but they have to be quick!

Once the lockdown is in place, communication ceases with the waystation. All the rest of the fleet can do is sit and wait, and hope for the best. The doors will re-open twenty-four hours later, once it’s clear the situation is handled and they can regroup, count their losses, and wait once again for the perished to rejoin their ranks. ]

[I AM TOTALLY THE ZOMBIE

No she's just kidding she's fine, though maybe a bit sweaty and blood-streaked, nbd. From what she knows of Kitty the woman can handle herself more than fine-- she remembers an encounter with Winter, a very long time ago-- but she's getting a bit crowded there, so Nami decides to thin out the horde a bit.]

Gust sword!

[Her wind attack doesn't kill them, but she can send the majority of these guys hurtling back down the corridor. They'll take a bit to get back up and stagger this way. Kitty can murder the ones remaining at her leisure.]

[OH NOES!

Whoo, such a roller coaster of emotions!

Kitty is well suited to the zombie killing business between the claws and phasing, but they do make it difficult when they bunch up like this. She needs to find a place to lead them where she can just funnel them to herself one or two at a time. Much easier. But for the moment it's a wide open space and she's losing ground. She can always phase her way out entirely but that makes them someone else's problem. Just as she's thinking she's going to need to do it at least to regroup they all go blowing backward.

...Storm?

She turns to see Nami.]

Have you always been able to do that? [Not that she'll just stand there and chat. There are zombies to take down.]

[Nami holds out the staff in her hands, letting it cant back and forth across her fingers a few moments.] Only when armed. Anything else I can do for you?

[Kitty isn't much of a damsel, let's be real. But sometimes it's easier with company.]

So accommodating. [She laughs under her breath.] Well, I don't mind the help. [She has always preferred having a team after all.] What else does that thing do? [Skewering zombies with careful moves as they chat.]

A bunch of stuff. The most efficient thing here, though? [She doesn't react as a zombie rears up behind her, teeth snapping through her shoulder before, uh... falling right through her.] Lightning. Will that hit you?

[You know, if you're intangible.]

It...shouldn't? [She's certainly fried circuits before and the snap of electricity doesn't harm her. And she fought alongside Storm enough to have some idea of how she handles lightning strikes, but she's not sure what makes that weapon induce lightning and sometimes magic can have...unpredictable results with her in her phased state.]

Does it work on them?

It does. [It's the only thing in her repertoire that does, though she can certainly slow them with other attacks. But Nami doesn't exactly want to crispyfry Kitty on the way through.] I'm guessing because it affects the brain. [Sam had mentioned to go for their heads.]

I can work around you, if you can play bait. [Play it safe.]

Interesting. [If lightning affects the brain it makes her wonder if she might have another card to play of her own that might be a little less taxing than shoving metal claws through bone.]

I make great bait. Give me a second to dive under the floor before you shoot? [It's okay, she already made sure under the floor isn't through the hull.] Where do you want them?

As central to this area as possible. I'll call you a three second warning!

[And she swings the climatact out in an arc before she abruptly fades from view again, leaving a whole pile of bubbles drifting up towards the ceiling in her wake.

[Kitty watches the display of weather in a bubble for a moment before nodding. She has questions and curiosities but they can wait.] Sounds good.

[She heads into position and uses her claws to clang loudly against the floor to draw attention.]

BRING OUT YOUR DEAD! [Hey, if you can't have a little fun with zombie killing...]

She would laugh, but (a) that'd give her away and (b) she's seen too many familiar zombies. But she does appreciate the humour. It certainly gets their attention, anyway, look at that shambling horde go, lurching in Kitty's direction at a ... well, she's seen faster zombies. But she's certainly not gonna complain about that. Above, the bubbles start popping one by one as the cloud grows beyond their bounds, crackling with ominous flares of light.]

Time to dive!

[That does get a few heads to turn in her direction, but whatever, dudes, you still can't see her. A few seconds later, and the whole room is going to explode with light.

...and fry a lot of dead people.]

[Kitty has happily seen no familiar zombies other than a couple of orange-skinned aliens she'd seen upon walking through the waystation. She might find the banter harder in that case if it were people from the fleet. But she does think the odds they all survive is slimming.

Kitty lets the hoarde lunch and snap at her, grabbing for a body they can see, but can't touch. She remains largely still and calm in a way that only comes with years of training. She's never faced anything quite like this but she's seen some shit and it helps in these matters.

When she hears Nami call out she's all too happy to sink beneath the floor. Do your stuff, barkeep! Kitty will be heading back to Nami's position to reemerge from the floor below a few moments later. It's totally not creepy.] Did it work?

Well enough. [Oh yeah, totally not creepy. But preferable by far than the creep show that is before them. By the time Kitty emerges, the dead have been reduced to smoking charred corpses on the ground. It's... not the greatest sight.

But they're not getting up again, and that's important.]

That's a handy skill. You ever have to be careful with it out here in space? [It's making conversation for the sake of distraction, but on a less zombie-filled day she'd still be pretty curious about that.]

[Oh, you charred corpses and she's the creepy one? They aren't a pretty sight, but she looks them over making sure they aren't moving.]

You have to be kind of careful with it everywhere. Solidifying into something is bad. The vacuum of space would be tricky too. [She could probably survive while phased but it's unlikely she could propel herself back inside without air molecules to push off of. So, she'd need a quick rescue.]

[I said it was preferable, didn't I, gosh. Nami doesn't look at the corpses at all. She knows her work is efficient; but also, it's really hard to look so let's not.]

I bet. You could easily get left behind out here. [Which is also creepy, but still a better choice of subject than zombies.] Anyone else here from your ship?

[Well, if you've seen one charred corpse you've...no, actually, it's pretty much horrific every time, and as they are super still, she'll stop looking now.]

Yeah, Makie definitely is. I think Kurt mentioned possibly making the trip for something to do. I'm not sure about the others. The communicators are down. You?

Sam's here. [For like their last thread ever.] He's okay. Does this kind of thing for a living. I think everyone else on my ship got lucky.

This seems more or less in Sam's wheelhouse. My people should be okay too. Have any of them looked familiar to you? [Nodding to the bodies when she says "them."]

[She frowns.]

I recognised some of them as earlier customers here. They weren't like this back then. But nobody from the Fleet, so far.

Same. I wonder if these people fall under the same protections we do where in a week or whatever it is they'll be alive again. [She's never been entirely convinced the people they meet are real. Living in a shared virtual reality for years will do a number on your sense of reality. But if they are real then what are the odds this is a natural occurrence and not something the Atroma cooked up for a ratings hike?]

I've been wondering that myself. [She isn't sure they're real, either. But if they're real, she doubts they get to come back from the dead. It's something she's trying not to think about.]
