Don't Dead, Open Inside || Action

Who: Carl Grimes, a bunch of zombies, and you
Broadcast: kinda?
Action: Waystation
When: Right now

(( ooc: This is a blanket content warning for blood/gore/death. So! There are zombies ahead and you’ve found yourself on the waystation! You have two options: evacuate, or fight them off. Things of note to remember: Being bitten or scratched are the easiest ways for infection. We don’t suggest being eaten. Magic will be hit or miss depending on player preference/discretion. Characters who become zombies will be treated as in-character deaths. Standard rules apply! The event will last a total of 24 hours. Have fun, and enjoy all the undead things. If there are any questions or anything at all, feel free to pm this journal or hit me up at [plurk.com profile] skorozima. ))

[ The Fleet has been floating along its predetermined path for the past few days, getting further and further away from the Yadrolla System and toward unknown territory. Along the way, those oh-so convenient waystations continue to pop up at their usual intervals. Identical in every way to every other, boring waystation. Neat, right? There are even some of those familiar orange-skinned aliens and some human travelers milling about and generally minding their own business. It’s a good place to stretch your legs, get sodas of questionable flavor, and take those nifty new pets for a walk!

Interrupting the general peace of the waystation, a shrill siren starts, and a robotic voice comes over the intercom as well as all communication devices on the station and surrounding spacecraft, repeating a monotone message. ]

ATTENTION. THIS IS AN EMERGENCY. LOCKDOWN IMMINENT. ATTENTION. THIS IS AN EMERGENCY. CALMLY EVACUATE USING THE NEAREST EXIT. LOCKDOWN IMMINENT..

[ Soon, it becomes apparent to those on the waystation what the emergency is. A gaggle? A murder??? Just.. a lot of undead. They’re not in any particular hurry, shambling and stumbling along.. until they spot what looks like some good eats. That seems to get them excited, arms stretching forward, teeth gnashing, and more growling than any sort of verbal mishmash meant to be words. THEY’RE NOT A WORDY PEOPLE, OKAY?

For those looking to escape, it’s quite easy to outrun them unless you’re not paying attention to your surroundings. Corners can be tough! Just don’t get bit or scratched and all is well, except for their incessant attempts at making you a snack. For those who haven’t come across them before, or have run into some variation of them in another world, they’re resilient up to the point of losing their head or the brain being destroyed. Limbs being broken or missing don’t seem to slow them down, just send them a little off-balance.

All they know is attack and eat.

For those of the fleet still on their ships, they gravitate around the waystation, seemingly not wanting to go anywhere. There is a short window of time from the emergency alert to the entire waystation going on lockdown. Those wishing to help evacuate can do so- but they have to be quick!

Once the lockdown is in place, communication ceases with the waystation. All the rest of the fleet can do is sit and wait, and hope for the best. The doors will re-open twenty-four hours later, once it’s clear the situation is handled and they can regroup, count their losses, and wait once again for the perished to rejoin their ranks. ]

[ It's a little weird, but after a flicker of surprise she just nods. ]

It's easiest if you go in through the base of the skull but the temple works, too. You need to destroy the brain.

[ She shakes her head as she leads Kitty away from the shambling knot of walkers. There's a lot of easier targets distracting them, that helps. ]

Not exactly. This is just what happens to people when they die where I'm from.

[ A sick, twisting fear grips her stomach. Who died. One of them had to, to set this off. ]

[Definitely weird. Kitty is from a land where everything is extra. There's so much more where that came from.]

Wait, this happens when someone from your world dies? [Having that same thought. Who was from that world who was still around? Maggie? Carl? But the thought doesn't last long because Kitty notices some of those easier targets and while part of her still thinks anyone not in the fleet might just be some kind of creation of the Atroma to mess with their captives she still can't let people get randomly snacked on in her presence.]

Hey! [She basically just dives toward them, claws out. It takes effort to make the claws go in, but she can phase them loose effortlessly so the next strike is immediate. She only aims for the heads because of what Carol said.]

[ Carol runs to catch up to Kitty, taking out whichever ones she doesn't hit. ]

It does. [ Her expression turns grim. Clearly that is an unusual thing about home. Which means that whoever did die...

She can't think about that, now. That kind of distraction will only slow her down. And she can't afford that. ]

If we see any of my people, I kill them. And you need to be careful. If they bite, or even scratch you? You'll be infected. You'll die and turn into one of them. It could take hours or days but it'll happen.

Maybe it's Atroma manufactured this time. [Or maybe someone from her world really had died. The station had seemed safe enough before this happened, but death was always a part of life. Hard to escape. She says it even as she finishes off the last of them leaving the people they saved scattering away. She'd like to direct them but where? She wishes she had schematics of the station. Something.]

So just be untouchable? Got it. But you're people... Are you sure you want to kill them? Maybe there's another way? [It feels cold wanting to hold out more hope for the crew than for the people who were on this station, but she's also not convinced the people they meet in their travels aren't simply some kind of projection of the Atroma even if they feel real enough.]

If they made this, they're even more disgusting than I ever imagined.

[ Just the thought makes her nauseous with rage. She shakes it off, has to focus. ]

All the exits are closed. We need to find some spot we can wait this out.

[ She leads the way, looking for something halfway defensible. Which is in short supply. Fucking shopping malls. She glances sidelong at Kitty's question. ]

Yeah. It's... it's how we handle it. A respect thing. [ She swallows, pushing away the memories of Ed and Sophia. ] When your'e a walker like that, somebody who cares about you should be the one to put you down. Release you from it.

[She hears the exits are closed and she wonders if that applies to her too. It's worth checking out. If the Atroma are involved in this and they want to keep her in she's sure they've made arrangements for that.

She's about to protest that she can't just wait it out safely if there are people who need help, but she pauses as Carol talks about her friends. Whether what's going on is exactly related to their home or not she's definitely been through this kind of thing a lot. She's the expert here.]

If we come across anyone you know from home, I'll leave them to you. [She can agree to at least that much.

Kitty then points upward to some very large sections of ventilation high above them. There's no obvious way to reach them given the high ceilings, but Kitty has a less than obvious way.]

Up there? We can regroup and keep watch. Figure out a plan?
