See how they glisten
Who: Mantis and All
Broadcast: Yes
Action: Planetside
When: Today
Action
He hobbled more than anything out of the mists. His whole body shook with harsh tremors as he came back into civilized streets and the overwhelming sense of people. Most concerning is that he can’t stop coughing: a dry and raspy noise that rocks through him as each fit comes along. He has to lean against a wall and wait for a particularly bad one to pass.
Slowly, he lifts up one hand and several chained dogtags clink and glitter in the light. There are four in all, and his grip on them is such that his knuckles are almost ghostly white. Then he gasps and turns his head sharply, wincing as some unseen thing comes closer to him. Another coughing fit comes upon him and he tries to stand and keep going. Not much longer, not much longer. He needs to get back to his ship
Broadcast
Mantis is hunched over heavily in the bed. His head bobs as he mutters things to himself. For a moment, it seems as though he isn’t aware of the video feed at all, but he eventually lifts his head up and takes several deep breaths.
“I- I’m in a hospital. Mist diving is… Is not safe.” He coughs suddenly, covering his chest with one arm. “There’s darkness down there. Kept seeing things. Not real things.”
His hand fiddles with several chains looped around his neck. They clang lightly against each other and he counts the dogtags hanging from them one by one.
“Wolf… Raven… These were my teammates. I left them at home when I was brought here. We were in Alaska. Okay. Okay, I’m back. The psychological effects of the mist are irritating. When you’ve had worse psychological breaks than this, the hallucinations are almost laugh…able…”
His gaze focuses sharply on a spot above the camera and he touches his fingertips together on each hand without moving his gaze. “That said, I need to recover. The coughing needs to subside before I get off the planet.”
