[On the 20th Messer is brought to the Blameless med bay in bad shape- not in mortal danger, but suffering bloodloss and exhaustion, and in need of treatment for gunshot and slash wounds. The worst of it is on his legs, so for a while he'll be off his feet and recovering.

He's a bit morose and more quiet than usual, but being bedridden means he's left with very little to do, so for once visitors are... kind of welcome? And can you please you bring him a book or two?]

b)

[After he's recovered enough to hobble about with a crutch, the residents of the ship will find Messer around more than usual. He's not flying off to Kaname's ship every other day- instead, he's taking care of whatever little jobs he can to stay busy on the Blameless, checking in with everyone to get a list of maintenance that's required when he's able to properly work again.

Even if he didn't physically wrong anyone on the ship, it's sort of his way of apologizing.]

[In all honesty, he's rather startled to find Messer approaching him. They have something of a history of not getting along. Their personalities being somewhat...incompatible. To put it mildly.

All the same, he has no intention of starting a quarrel. So when Messer asks if he needs anything fixed up, he thinks about it for a moment or so before answering to give him a proper answer.]

Though I prefer to not use it, it wouldn't hurt to look at the beverage machine. Just to be certain it can be used by others?

[There's a pause and then...]

May I offer you some tea while you are here?

[In the end, he just has to be polite. It's his nature.]

[You gave him so good fish back on the planet, Messer, plus you brought some back to the ship, and for this Lyall is grateful. So once he learns that a member of the crew has been injured, and that he is up to receiving visits, he will make a tray with tea and grab some books from the library - a bit at random, since he does't know what genre Messer prefers for now - and head to the room.

being a werewolf with super-strength makes it easy to navigate knocking on the door while balancing the tray on one hand, thankfully.]

Are you up for some company?

[Messer looks conflicted for a moment, because yeah, they've clashed a few times, but that's not even unusual for him, so in his mind it's nothing personal. Not to mention the walk from where he'd begun to the kitchen had taken more energy out of him than he's happy with, even using a crutch; the temptation to sit down is mighty.

At last he nods, moving towards the table and easing his way into a chair.]

I'll have some if you're making a pot, thank you.

[Messer's always on high alert, and the experience of once again falling to the Var has left him more paranoid than usual, so the knock isn't even necessary; he's facing the door as it opens, one hand holding his communicator for perusal while the other arm is bandaged and resting in a light sling. He's clean, at least, smelling of disinfectant more than blood. He takes note of the tray and books, and nods politely.]

I won't refuse.

[No promises about the quality of his company, but.]

[He's the beta of a werewolf pack, Messer. He's taken care of more than his share of injured grumps in his time. He's got thick skin.

He brings in the tray and puts it down on a free flat surface and starts pouring the tea.]

How are your injuries?

Of course.

[He bows his head politely before offering for him to sit while he prepares the tea. If nothing else it will offer the man a chance to rest for a time. Something he so clearly needs in that moment. Biffy may not really get along with the man but he hardly wishes ill on him.

Which is also why the tea he picks is one that will help to provide energy and encourage the healing of the body. With a dash of cream and honey to it, it keeps it from being medicinal as well. After a few minutes, he sets the cup before him and one for himself as well so it won't feel so awkward.]

How are you feeling?

None were life-threatening. I'm expected to recover with no issues, given time.

[Which is good, because he already hates being stuck here.]

[While the tea is being made, Messer gives his leg a chance to rest while he takes a quick note about the kitchen machinery. It was on his list already, but he's adding emphasis to the drink dispenser.

There's a glimmer of relief as he accepts the tea, there and gone in a flash.]

I'm fine. Tired of my own lack of mobility, at worst.

[He nods his understanding, sipping at his tea for a moment before he speaks up again.]

There is a man here with healing abilities by the name of Anders. Have you spoken with him? If it is not your preference to deal with what other worlds call magic then I understand.

[He just wants to offer something to help get the man back on his feet. Because whether Biffy likes him or not, he's still a kind soul at heart.]

That's good to hear.

[Lyall hands him the tea and then grabs the stack of books and a chair to bring those closer to the bed.]

I brought these as a distraction but I wasn't sure what your preference was, or even if reading was something you'd enjoy... if you'd like to tell me, though I can easily scour the library for you until you are well enough to move around.

[Being bedridden suck big time, and Shiro knows it. So he does his best to help Messer through it and keep him entertained. So he shows up this morning carrying a tray with breakfast (he bought it at the planet, don't worry, he didn't cook it himself) and a pack of cards.]

Hey, good morning. How are you feeling?

[Messer's only been here for a short time and he's already bored to frustration. He's used to being on his feet working all day, and resting properly isn't really his style. He's very quickly getting through whatever Kaname's brought him, so it's a relief when Shiro brings both company and something to do.]

I'm alright. My condition's slowly improving.

[Messer leans in carefully to get a better look at titles; he can't really sort through or check the description without a free hand, and they don't really look like books he'd normally select for himself, but hell if he's going to complain or behave like he's ungrateful.]

Thank you, I'm certain they're fine. If you happen to come across any tactical or engineering texts, I would appreciate those.

[Might as well use this time to learn a thing or two.]

[Messer pauses; he's aware that people within the fleet have such powers. Lucina herself had already offered to do the same for him, something for which he'd graciously refused. He's not looking for anyone else to heal him either. Better to let this run its course.]

I've never met the man, but I'll take it into consideration.

[Which he won't do, but it feels impolite to say as much. The man's only trying to help.]

Of course. I will keep an eye out for this.

[He'll leave the books on the bedside table where they can be easily accessed.]

May I ask what happened to put you in that state? I heard some rumors of a big monster and that some people went to fight it...

[Foolish, if you ask him, but of course, no one asked him.]

[He nods his head to let him know that he will not push the matter. Whether or not Manji wishes to visit someone like that is up to him and it isn't his place to push something he might not want on him.]

Of course. Please do let me know if there is anything I can do to assist you.

[He'd rather give Messer the power to decide if he wants that or not than simply step in to take care of things for him. It can sometimes wound a person more to take away their control when they are barely getting it back. And in honesty he knows what it's like to have control stolen from him and to feel defeated by it. He will never do that to another person as a result.]

[Hah. If only it had been some other monster to fight.

Instead of a straight answer, Messer glances sidelong at the man. His secret's getting out, and keeping it isn't worth anyone else getting hurt. Time to come clean.]

You and Rabiffano lock yourselves away during the full moon to avoid harming people, correct?

[He doesn't wait for an answer, as it's mostly rhetorical. He'd gotten the whole explanation before.]

I have a somewhat similar condition, but it lacks the convenience of a schedule. It was triggered due to the mist, and I was injured to keep me from hurting others.

Hm.

[It's true that pride plays a part, and he wrestles with it for a long moment. He doesn't like getting help for mundane things, least of all his own damned job. But if he'd let himself be healed, he wouldn't even have this problem. Stubbornness is going to cause one issue or the other, and there's no having it both ways.

Finally he shakes his head.]

The ship continues to function well enough, with or without me. I believe it will keep. However, if you notice anything out of sorts that cannot wait, I would appreciate the assistance, and I'm sure the rest of the crew would as well.

[A good amount of Kaname's time from the 20th onward is spent on the Blameless in Messer's quarters. Q-Lulu accompanies her sometimes as well, but mostly the mercat is left with her crew. Each visit Kaname brings a few new selections from Sam's collection he left behind as well as what she's picked up on past planets. She's even managed to locate a complete deck of cards, a chessboard (with a few odds and ends for some pieces), and a weird book of alien mad libs. ... the last one hasn't seen much use. ~~Yet.~~

Now she shows up once again for her daily visit, barely bothering to knock before she's closing the door behind her.]

I brought something new today. Plus some food from the Space Bar. You good for some of that right now?

[Sometimes he needs to sleep. During those times, Kaname either goes back to her ship to find more to keep him occupied or simply catches a small nap herself. While Messer got the worst of their encounter, she does have a few visible scratches on her arms and face, mainly from debris and the like. It doesn't stop her from smiling at him each time she pops by.]

[Well, Lyall didn't know what he was expecting but it wasn't... that and it will show on his face for a few seconds before he schools his features again.]

I see... you say 'similar', so I assume you are not a were, ut you can also transform into another creature... but not at will?

[Basically what happens to newly-turned pups until they learn to control the wolf, it sounds like. Except more dangerous if there's no one around to rein it in.]

Did anyone else get hurt?

[That would be a concern.]

I can do what I can as long as my augment will allow it.

[It's mildly tiresome that he can't seem to do some tasks simply because he doesn't have the augment for it but he does want to at least do what he can. At the same time, he does want to admit where his limits are so that way Messer knows he isn't avoiding some things intentionally. That simply isn't something he would ever do.]

You are part of this crew though. I feel that I can safely speak for the others in saying that we would be glad to help you out whenever you need it.

[When Kaname is here, Messer can't help feeling a little torn, something he won't voice but isn't able to avoid thinking. Surely he's put her through enough already, and she doesn't have to put her life on hold as much as she is just because he's hurt and bored (and too stubborn to let anyone heal him). He knows she'd just scold him if he said anything, though. And, selfishly, he does appreciate her company, regardless of his misgivings.

So when she arrives again he merely nods in greeting, shifting carefully in bed to sit up properly.]

I was just starting to feel hungry, so thank you.

[She'd scold him and point out it's hardly putting her life on hold when he's such a big part of it. Of course, she can't do anything if she's not aware of it.

His reply elicits a broad grin in response, even though it's not hard for him to get one out of her. Kaname places her belongings on the desk and turns to him, holding something.]

Good. Before that, I've got something for you. [She places it on the bed where it's within easy reach for him. It's his Delta Flight jacket, just like he'd left it at home.]

I went back and got it. [After space rabies.] It'll be nice to see you wearing it again.

Good to hear. [He says as he leaves the tray on Messer's lap.] The mist has been having all sorts of effects on people, including augment glitches, so I'm not sure what to expect from it mixing with your condition.

[He sounds like he's been worrying a lot - because he has. Messer is crew, but most importantly, his situation resonates with Shiro, big time.]
