[The video opens with Ulaz sitting in the kitchen of the Blameless. Beside him, a rather large package that some may realize is the package one received on their birthday. He's already opened it and looked through it]

Clearly even on a day that was picked to be a "birthday" for me a few months ago, the Atroma take this as a fact. I found this box this morning. Some of the things in here would be quite useful. Others... I'm not sure why I have them.

[But still he wants to show others what were in this box. There's a mug and a book that he seemed rather happy about. Also a doctor's lab coat which is CLEARLY too small for Ulaz. There's also a board game which receives a comment of "I don't know what this is supposed to be". And then finally... the mice which he looks incredulously at]

What am I supposed to do with these?

[Ulaz can be found on the kitchen in the Blameless, still with his box of "goodies". After making the announcement, he decided to take a break and make some tea. A good way to spend a birthday.

Now only if there was someone around...]

[In this video, Ulaz is sitting in his lab with Shiro's dog Procyon pacing around nearby. Ulaz reached out a hand to help try to calm the anxious dog]

It seems that the captain of the Blameless has temporarily gone missing. And I am unable to reach others from my world as well. I've heard about it happening, but wasn't sure I'd see it.

In the meantime, as first mate, I'll be in charge of the Blameless. Hopefully this will not last long.

[Oh someone is here. Biffy comes in and smiles at Ulaz as he pours himself tea as well. He's already prepared this but then went to go and change outfits. Now that he's properly dressed, he sits down across from his alien friend.]

So it is your birthday then?

[He gives an amused glance at the box of gifts from Atroma.]

A birthday...

I wonder if I should perhaps pick one.

It's fairly common, unfortunately. Though - hasn't it happened to them once before?

[He's not too surprised when Sandalio walks in. He usually seems to run into him in the kitchen when he came into make tea. Seems they did that at almost the same time some days]

It is. The one that our captain gave me at least. My true one has been lost to the ages and I don't even know how it would convert to this calendar.

But the Atroma did see fit to send me something today.

[Noticing the glance at the box]

Some of them I like. Others... I'm not sure why I have them.

I don't see how it would hurt to have one if you wanted one. It doesn't change much from not having one except that others give you things on that day.

I believe I heard about that. I was not here to see for myself. But recently Lance and Keith went into a comatose state and awoke with new memories so it would be similar.

I must admit, Atroma acknowledging the date is a nice detail coming from them for a change.

[Ulaz's gifts don't look too terrible, even if they're kind silly. He's definitely seen worse from these box drops. But before he comments on those, he puts a box wrapped in purple with a bow on it in front of Ulaz.]

Happy birthday, Ulaz. [When Ulaz opens his gift, he'll find a nice set of puzzles in it.]

I do have to say, it is oddly nice that it recognized given that it isn't my actual birthday.

[He hadn't really been sure what would have happened, if it would have just been a conversation and nothing more, but this was more than that.

Ulaz looks surprised when Shiro suddenly puts down that wrapped package in front of him. He picked it up, almost examining it first before starting to unwrap it, setting the bow and paper to the side once he's removed them from the box.

And there it was, a box of puzzles. He doesn't really say anything at the moment as he opens it to see all the smaller boxes inside, each with their own individual challenge for him to solve, but he's interested.

After a few long moments, he looks back up, a faint smile on his face]

I feel it is less a desire of mine to receive gifts and more that some find it important to celebrate the life of their friend. It seems perhaps I should allow others this chance for me.

I'm a touch baffled by a couple of the items as well. They hardly seem useful and I am not at all certain why they would be given to you of all people.

[The mice seem better suited to someone like Anders in all honesty...]

Perhaps some joke of the audience we are not aware of?

[The other resident werewolf will be polite and when he sees Ulaz with his birthday haul, having seen the previous message, he will nod.]

Happy birthday... although if I understood correctly this was a date you chose yourself, and not your actual birthday?

[How odd then than the Atroma would know when to send something.]

I don't particularly care about the gifts. [He was confused by most of the ones he'd received from the Atroma after all] It was an idea by my captain when we were celebrating his birthday. They wanted to give me the same opportunity. So it is for the same reason.

I'm sure if you did, others would celebrate.

I'm not sure of this either. Something that is not my size, though I'm sure there is someone here who will take it off my hands and those mice.

[Maybe one of the animals on the ship would like them]

That is the only thing I can think of, but I'm not sure what it could be. The book does seem like it would be interesting reading though.

[Ulaz nods back in response]

Thank you. You are correct. My true birth date has been lost after so much time and not knowing how to adjust it to this calendar. The captain picked it for me during his birthday party a few months ago.

I know it's happened to Shiro at least once; I wasn't aware that it could happen multiple times. That's concerning.

Was he bothered by the fact you didn't know it?

[He knows some humans get bothered by that, even though he's not very sure why at this stage. When you are as old as they are, does it really matter that they are growing a year older.]

It's curious to say the least. If this is supposed to be information from home, why does it happen multiple times? Why can it not be all at once?

But since we cannot speak with the Atroma directly, we will never know their logic.

No, he was not. He asked about the date and when I said I wouldn't have been able to determine a date, it was his suggestion to find another.

[He's not sure either. Younger Galra hold onto dates of birth like they were important, but once they moved onto other things, they became less and less celebrated. A Galra cruiser wasn't going to celebrate the birth dates of every single person on the ship. Most commanders probably cared less because they themselves had forgotten their own. Ulaz and most of the older Blades could only remember vague specifics of their own dates.

A vicious cycle, but its how it worked]

He at least seems to understand some of us are older than we appear to them.

Well, that is good. Most people tend to be a bit... baffled.

[To say it politely. It's probably worse with Lyall, too, because he doesn't looks like a super tall purple alien and just like a normal guy.]

But if they chose the date you chose that means they do not know the real date. It might be a bit comforting that they do not know everything about us.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SUCH AS IT IS. [Death can't help find some humor in the toy mice.] I TAKE IT FROM THE GIFTS THAT YOU ARE A DOCTOR OF SOME SORT. AS TO THE MICE, PERHAPS IT IS A JOKE OF SOME SORT? OR YOU COULD GIFT THEM TO SOMEONE WITH CATS.

I've been lucky, I suppose. It was common to forget such a thing in favor of doing your duty to the Empire. The number of Galra passed a certain age that can remember is likely low. And I am older than most.

[He definitely agrees that it is comforting that they do not know everything about them. There's a lot he didn't want people to know]

Humans don't normally have long lives in the grand scheme of things do they? So it makes sense that they would remember and hang onto such a thing longer.

Thank you. Yes, even before arriving in the fleet and being given the lab support augment, I was a medical technician. So I suppose some of these are appropriate.

The mice... Perhaps they are trying to say I'm a cat? Which is not true. Loyalty will likely get them to play with.

They updated the documents in the network after I talked to Biffy and Lyall. It seems they're always ready to give us what we need for their rantings.

[Thank goodness Shiro is a patient man and just waits for Ulaz to inspect his present, because part of him is dying to know what he'll think of it. A Galra spy isn't easy to buy for! When Ulaz says he likes it, Shiro beams. Yay for choosing right!]

I'm glad to hear that. And we can have a celebration later today, what do you think?

It's almost as if they want us to assume time moves along while we're here, when information we've learned from the people who experience this new information says otherwise.

Mmm, it's frustrating. I wish they'd be upfront with this. [a small huff] They're breaking rules, even though I know my world's laws hold no standing here.

Are you all right? You didn't experience anything?

They do, yes. In my time, it also was not extremely important to remember these things, and werewolves also rarely tend to live as long as I have.

Which reminds me, I do not think I ever asked how hold you were.
