So, we have a Starduck to go with our Twin Roses and Goldstone now. Anyone want to bet on the next ship blend?

My money's on the SS Fish Breath.

[Dry amusement aside, she is concerned by their dwindling numbers and what, if anything, it means.]

And here I'd been gunning for the Wonderstruck.

[Where does one of them start and the other begin at this point? So much working on this thing!]

Wonderstruck definitely would have been the classy way to go. I figure that's why they went for Starduck instead.

I'll have to find a ridiculous captain's hat for Eugene, I think.

[He pauses in his tinkering to think about the initial question.]

Hmm. You could--no.

[He pulls up his communicator and scrolls over it, mouthing and discarding a few possible portmanteaus. Finally he grins and sets it down.]

Caprine, Vanquish, Blameless. Capricious.

Seems likely that you'd be right, but I'll nominate the SS Sportscap.

...Technically neither of their ships have the extra 's' but I'm sure that wouldn't stop the Atroma from being a little ridiculous.

[Or Felix for that matter. Apparently.]

Ooh, is that a thing that happens often? Sure, I'll play. Let's see...

Heron and First Breath could make Bird Breath, instead.

[Or maybe that fusion is just wishful thinking.]

Or Caprine instead of Heron for Goat Breath. Really, anything with an animal and the First Breath is destined to be smelly.

Hmmm... not the most appealing of names of a ship.

First Breath and Bloodsport to get "First Blood".

I don't think I know Eugene. He was here before too though wasn't he? [She occasionally stalks the crew manifests even if she doesn't always end up running in the same circles as everyone who appears on them.]

Wow, look at you with the real thinker names. [As if anyone should be surprised by this.] I wonder if they would smash three ships together at once. I mean, it's not like doing two makes any kind of sense in reality so why not, right?

I wouldn't call three times often, but it did happen twice within the same week over a year ago when the Windrose and Three Twins became the Twin Roses and the Golden and Pathstone became the Goldstone. Maybe they do it in twos. But really there's not enough to base a pattern on.

[She tilts her head.] So, Caprine means goat? [Hey, she's smart, but she's a city girl. Still, at almost three years in the fleet you'd think she would have tried looking it up.]

I'd say it's a little dark, but honestly, it's less dark than Bloodsport already is.

Caprine's from an old language, far as I can tell, and it shares some traits with a few I know. It might mean something different to the Atroma, but the ship's logo kinda looks like one, doesn't it?

[City girl meet magic linguist?? Okay, not really- she grew up as a street scrub herself. She's just been around a long time.]

[He nods.] Yes, he's from a version of Earth that had a zombie apocalypse in the early twenty-first century. He's a very creative chef.

[And that gets a grin.] One would generally think crashing two ships together would result in zero rather than one, so I must agree there. Or do you think--

Actually, have you watched any reality shows? I don't recall if your world had them or not.

Yeah, that makes sense. [She's a bit of a linguist herself, but somehow goats just never came up that much. It's also not that similar to versions she knows in Russian or Japanese. Though maybe it is for the more scientific name. She can see where it probably has Latin roots though.] I honestly had no idea what their logo was. They're all stylized, but usually you can tell. I was guessing something between a tooth and a pointy mountain. I guess it can be a goat. Sure. It makes more sense than the tooth anyway.

You pretty much have to be a creative chef in any kind of apocalypse. [She smiles a little. Oh, there were some interesting meals back home.] Is he from the same world as Daryl and Carl and all of them?

[She looks at him wondering where his mind is going with this.] We did. It wasn't a huge thing. There was one on MTV called Real World. There were probably others. Why?

(OOC: I kind of generally cut pop culture off to things that happened before 1995 since that's when the arc came out, but is that still kind of arbitrary and random because Marvel comics time is special? It is.)

I probably wouldn't have thought of it if I didn't already have an inkling about the word. And who knows, I could be wrong. Though if it's named after a tooth that's an even better reason to fuse 'em, yikes.

...Ooh, and then they could make "Bad Breath"! Cut out the animal middleman entirely.

I'm not certain. I know he was living in England, but I don't know the details well enough to tell.

You're not missing much, I think. It rather overruns everything in my timeline--but one of the common themes was an elimination round that led to a season finale. Perhaps we're to keep going until only one ship remains.

[And he pauses overdramatically.]

Oh, they were in America. South from the sound of it. Even if it was the same world they probably had no contact. If you thought airports were bad before apocalypses... [Ha ha?]

[She looks suitably amused as his amalgamation even if the concept itself is a little alarming and not exactly too far fetched to worry about.] Did you get Goldstone and Tourist in there?

[Oh hey, Shiro is all about dry amusement, count him in.]

Would the Red Fish and the Blue Fish make the Purple School?

Feels like a stretch, but so does having two ships crashing into each other and instead of destroying them just cleanly fusing them into one, so who am I to say?

It could also be First Tooth. A ship for toddlers.

Oh, nice. It's worth it even just for the red and blue play. Knowing this place they'd just be the Fish Fish.

[He smirks a bit.] They're less important to those of us who can make a transatlantic flight on our own.

[Oh, dang, he knew he was missing a few.] Er, Heronstone? Though I can't think of a good one for the Tourist.

[She laughs.]

Based on what I know about the people who live on one of those ships, that would be so ironic that I really want it to happen.

Show off. [She smirks back at him. He has a point though. The X-Men still made it all over the globe and into outerspace. Sometimes with speedsters, flyers, and teleporters like Blink and Lila. (Sorry, Kurt's a shorter distance kind of guy.) And sometimes through their ability to get ships and such running again.]

Hey, the First Breath has... [She pauses trying to remember the most current roster.] Okay, just Tyrion. [He's the only one she's close to anyway. She can't say Loki's not a toddler exactly. She barely knows anyone on the Caprine anymore. She should really meet some new people. Oh yeah, like...]

It's not as though I could pass through a metal detector, you understand.
