Halloween Mingle!

It's time for a spooky candy-filled drift, Flooters! And because no Halloween is complete without a few tricks...a mini player plot! If you'd rather just have a normal mingle, feel free to ignore it and tag about as normal!

On the Iskaulit for interested parties there are a few bowls of candy gathered from all the ships. It's a random assortment! The bowls are left in high traffic areas and they can be moved about, so feel free to say your character ran into the bowl wherever you like! Even in the bathroom? Who knows! Fancy hotels do it, so why not the Fleet.

Upon consuming candy taken from the bowl however, the character will have their hair or skin temporarily change color to something not their natural shade. This is a harmless illusion spell and can last anywhere from 1 to 8 hours - player's choice! What colors? Also player's choice! Want to go mauve for the day? Sure! Blue and green? Go for it! Rainbow glitter? Why not?

This is a completely harmless spell though, so while it looks like they've changed colors, it is not a real physical change. After a few hours, the effects wear off and everything is back to normal. Happy Halloween♥

[Kaname enjoys gatherings and parties well enough. Normally a costume party might be iffy, but with the recent departures, she figures why not, she could use some fun. So on the evening of the 31st, she's going around the Iskaulit and different ships in her Atroma provided costume, which she actually sort of likes.

So whether she's simply hanging out somewhere or traversing for different treats, strike up a conversation.

Or just use it as a catch all for other things.]

[Messer is not a party-goer by nature, obviously, nor is he one for costumes. He'd just as soon stay home and work on something that actually feels important. On the other hand, Kaname can usually get him to agree to something on a good day, and on a bad day, when so many of her friends have up and vanished? All it takes is a single request and he's there. Which... is why he's here. In reaper cosplay. If nothing else they make a pretty pair? Even if he's just sort of grimly following her from place to place for most of it.

He. Is. Trying!!]

Is that... comfortable? The wings look heavy.

[Lup's decked out as a pirate, complete with long red overcoat, tall black boots, a corset and a miniskirt with a million-ruffled bustle, and she's pleased as pink to be wearing every bit of it. She's got on as much jewelry as will fit on her ears (which is a lot, because elf). And of course, of course, an enormous feathered captain's hat.

At Loki's offer, she raises a brow at his conjured bag, grins, and points to a nearby candy bowl.]

I'll try yours if you try mine.

[Beforehand, a text invitation was sent out to the Fleet at large:

Care to test your bravery? Visit the Twin Roses and find out! 5 credits per entry.

What could it possibly mean? On the Twin Roses, the cargo bay has been fully decorated with all the paper decorations provided, and it looks like there's a large structure in the center made of various crates and random pieces of junk, draped with ripped junkyard fabric and sporting an 'Enter Here' sign in jagged red letters. The lights are turned down even dimmer than usual, the spookier and more atmospheric tunes available are being piped through some scavenged and repaired speakers, and there's even a little dry-ice fog here and there. Five glowfish are in their portable lantern-bowls fitted with paper filters and stashed around the room for mood lighting (green, red, yellow, white, and light blue).

Near the airlock that serves as a visitor's entrance, the Vision is dressed to kill and seated at a makeshift desk, writing with what appears to be an actual quill pen with old-fashioned ink on paper. A bowl of malted milk balls sits at the edge of the desk.]

Welcome, dear traveller, to the Dead Roses. It is said those who enter are never heard from again. Are you brave enough to try the labyrinth?

[That's right, the crew of the Twin Roses has made a haunted house! Enter at your own risk! Who knows what evil lies within? Only one way to find out!]

[They got candy. They got costumes. It seems like a waste not to come to the party, and Eugene shows up in all of his splendidly tacky cowboy-themed glory with a small bounty of pumpkin spice muffins. For awhile he's content to mingle and chat.

And then he starts trying the candy.

And then he notices that his arm is violently orange.

And then, in a state of stone-cold sobriety, he decides that if he's going to be fantastically-colored, it's going to be on his terms. Which involves making a spectacle of himself going back and forth between candy bowls, figuring out by trial and error which one does what, all the while using his communicator as a makeshift mirror and hmming as his skin and hair cycle from shade to shade apparently at random]

[Taako's been watching this little display with bemusement from his seat not close enough to look suspicious, but not so far that he can't keep a close eye on whomever gets caught up in the prank. And honestly? This is the most fantastic entertainment as he watches Eugene go from violently orange to normal to a rainbow prism of colors until his hair settles on a two-toned blueberry color.

He's dressed up in his own irony-laden grim reaper costume, but he's added his own flair. His usual wizard's hat is still on his head with the addition of a few black flowers and skulls and he's sporting fishnets for no other reason than he can. Taako snickers as Eugene settles on two colors.]

I'm not trying to discourage you, but you gotta have an iron stomach to have eaten as much as you have.

Ladies first.

[She hums thoughtfully, considering it, then shrugs and reaches in. What is life if not made of adventure? Plus she can't die and has magic. So there's that.

WHAT'S IN THE BAG LOKI]

Kramm's arriving in his Atroma-supplied costume as a sexy ranger, which is amusing to him because he's known sexy rangers and this is not at all what they wore;

Everything is green pleather with leaf motifs. Booty shorts, a tight vest with tan accents, and bracers. It's even come with a tiny bow and some arrow darts ... but don't worry his aim sucks!

[Wanda heads to the main party after the haunted house closes in her sorceress costume. She's wearing her usual assortment of rings but no necklaces tonight - just fake vampire fang puncture marks on her neck.

~~Three guesses who's wearing the vampire costume, and the last two don't count.~~

Eventually Wanda's hair ends up lavender after she snacks on some candy (why is it always her hair?), but she doesn't seem to mind. It's pretty. And it definitely could have been worse - if it had ended up white this party would have taken a very different tone.

She can be found dancing or enjoying the treats.]

[Even though she's wearing black in the dim light, it's easy to pick her out by her newly-changed pastel hair. Something happened, obviously, but she's fine and smiling brightly as she takes his hands.

Wanda has the hood of her dress down, her hair swept away from the makeup on her neck. She's his. And tonight, Wanda wants it to be obvious.

(They're merging their quarters soon. If they've managed to keep it quiet, it won't be for too much longer.)]

[They make a very pretty pair.

She's glad Messer agreed to go with her, as much as it's not really his thing. Few bright spots aside, Kaname's fleet life hasn't been the best the past couple weeks, so spending time with someone important to her helps let her relax. Plus his costume is great.

Messer's question has her smile.]

It is, actually. The winds are more like a cloak than anything else. [She turns and takes one 'wing' in each hand before spreading them out behind her.]

[He's posted up not too far from wherever the candy bowls happen to be. Not close enough to be obviously watching it, but close enough to be within immediate visual confirmation whenever someone has an unfortunate run-in with his and Lup's prank. Like everyone else, he's dressed up in the most ironic costume ever: the Grim Reaper. He has a feeling Kravitz is going to find it amusing and, if nothing else, Taako is enjoying it because he's added some fishnets and extra skull and bone themed jewelry like earrings, bracelets, and a choker. Might as well look good, right?

Especially since he's hanging out to watch the fruits of his handiwork. He won't guide people to the bowls - that's too obvious - but he sure will be giggling when anyone's hair or skin get turned an unfortunate shade.]

Well that's one way to shake up your look.

[And if people aren't inclined to take of the bowl? Well, Taako will bring it to people. He's dressed in his costume and swings by with a silvery bowl filled to the brim with candies gathered from each of the ships. He offers the bowl with the sweetest smile he can manage to whomever he comes across.]

Apparently this holiday is about giving free shit away, so you want some?

[And when he isn't being a general nuisance, he's working at the Melting Pot. Anyone who comes in might have noticed a few new things about the place. One, the dishes being produced have expanded - including things like eggs benedict, real bacon, and various types of stews. Two, the ingredients no longer have that synthetic taste to them which seems strange, but there it is. And three, there's a shitload of magic getting thrown around in the kitchen; sometimes unnecessarily.

A new chef is in town and he's put a sign on each table that reads: ]

[Eugene's train of thought regarding whether he can actually make himself sparkle or if he'll just end up with another skin tone that he's not all that into (magenta, ew) is briefly derailed by that reminder. That and the fact that yeah, he has eyes, and Taako has legs, and shit, what are those heels, two inches?

Oh, right, he was saying something.]

Hey, a little stomachache tomorrow is worth an ombre like this. [And he'll tousle out his hair for effect - which, true to form, does at least have a nice gradient from root to tip.]

[Two and a half, my dude, and he's fucking rocking them like a boss.

He notices where Eugene's eyes go and he smiles a little wider, clapping for the hair tousle. It is a nice ombre, and he's lucky it's all even.]

You could make it permanent if you wanted - go to that salon. Might up your image, give you a little more pizzazz, if you really wanted to stand apart from the crowd.

1) Providing treats! | SS Starduck
[ Should anyone venture over to the SS Starduck for some top quality teensy pebble-looking candies (that are totally Nerds) they'll find Escha happily waiting for them, wearing a cute forest-y witch-y costume and waving enthusiastically. ]

Welcome!! Are you here for some candy? [ She picks one of the tiny cardboard boxes out of the massive crate and holds it up. ] I've never seen candy like this before... but it's really tasty! I hope you like it, too!

2) Eating too many treats... | Also SS Starduck
[ Sometime after the initial rush of Halloween festivities, Escha does what Escha is prone to do from time to time: eat too much sugar.

This, of course, results in a huge sugar rush at first! During this time, there is a lot of productivity! Things are made in the lab! Her alchemy cauldron is near to overflowing with all the helpful items she's synthesized! The hallways are even cleaned up, because she felt like it!

Buuuut then come the inevitable crash. And some poor soul is probably going to find her, in the lounge, absolutely passed out face-down on the couch, her legs over the armrest and one arm dangling off the front. ... Oops. Someone wanna wake up your co-captain...? ]

3) Falling for tricks! | SS Iskaulit
[ Escha heard there was a party! Or, well, at the very least, there are cupcakes and more candies! So she shows up - in costume, of course! - and starts nomming on some sweet, sweet treats~

Anyone who spots her will quickly notice that her hair is very, very, very bright blue now. But she's biting into one of those eyeball cupcakes, just as happy as can be, with her tail accessory swishing behind her! Escha either has no idea, or she doesn't mind. ... Dare to point it out~? ]

These cakes are so cute - and also delicious!

I kind of doubt that me being visually non-distinctive is a problem.

[He replies with a dry lift of his eyebrow, about as adult and sardonic as one can look in a too-short cowhide vest.]

Honestly, what I probably need is an angle besides 'normal human who makes pretty good bread.'

[He grins and pulls the cowl down from his hair. He has to shake his head a little to keep the fabric free of the many earrings he's put in to complement the outfit and they tinkle lightly against each other as he laughs.]

And there's nothing wrong with switchin' up your look, my man. I do it all the time. That face twin of mine changes her hair color daily. Keeps people interested and lookin' and if they're lookin' then you're getting that sweet, sweet ratings boost.

[Eugene had been on the periphery of the sugar buzz, carefully inching around hall-scrubbings-in-progress and thinking better of poking his nose into the lab for something to take the edge off the odd ache or twinge. So when he finds Escha on the couch in the lounge, it's not too surprising, and he sighs to himself before making the trip back down the hall for some water and a blanket. Once she's settled in and hopefully in a position to sleep it off, he kicks back in one of the armchairs, props his foot up on the coffee table, and tucks back into the latest novel he picked up on-planet before they drifted off.]

[He'd be hard pressed to find Haggar during a time like this, but as his luck would have it - his, not hers, as her intent was to go hide away in a secret hidey hole until this was all over, but he just manages to cross paths with her before she could slip away fully.

[Because of course that's her answer to any candy offering -- does he think she doesn't know what he did? ...Well, mostly, she's not particularly interested in candy, anyway. She might actually be secretly amused... not that her expressions would give that away.]

Nah, it's just Lup, decked out in what can only be described as a "sexy pirate" costume, complete with an enormous feathered captain hat, wandering over to refresh one of the near-empty candy bowls with a fresh load. She catches sight of him checking himself out and grins, pointing from him to herself - and to her equally-rainbowed hair, fluttering behind her back and over both shoulders in long, dramatic tails and curls.]

I like your style, bud.

[Taako will usually let most people go without too much ribbing when he knows they don't want to be found. But some people - some special, lovely people - can never escape him and Her Royal Scarecrowness is one of those people. When he sees her slinking out, he immediately slides over to be in her path with a huge grin on his face. He's loving his costume, and hers? Yeah, that's some delicious goddamn irony right there.

He waggles the bowl at her with the best approximation of Shit Eating Grin that he can muster.]

Aw, come on, Grammy Scowl, it's the hoildays. You're supposed to take some treats or I have to play a trick on you.
