Time to find a job! Mining is right out. Dark, enclosed spaces? No thank you. But hunting he can do. He has experience and a good aim. And for once he's focused and careful, chatter kept to a minimum.]

[It's big and furry and topped with massive antlers. He'd rather take its picture. Maybe he can do both?]


Gift Shopping

[He's got a list, and he's checking it twice. Three times. Four times. And he's taking up the aisle of one of the shops with his indecision and pacing.

The paper looks like it's been crumpled up and then smoothed out again - maybe more than once. If someone happens to sneak a glance at it, it's got various names jotted down, and next to most of them many question marks and exclamation points.

It shouldn't be this hard, should it?]

[Lance doesn't exactly like killing creatures who aren't already trying to kill him. But he really does need the extra money right now, so he supposes he could stomach one or two of these. Plus, he's got expertise when it comes to shooting, so there's at least that.]

[He pauses in checking over his gun, squinting at the beast in the distance.]

Gift Shopping

[Shopping is one of the few joys that Taako has here, other than flinging magic missiles endlessly into the sky for no discernible reason and no discernible target. Since the planet has actual shops with goods and not just sorted junkyards, he's been enjoying himself perusing the variety of wares they had for sale. And while he doesn't really have many people to "shop" for when it comes to Candlenights gifts, he does have things he wants to pick up to make the usual generic giveaway gifts he wants to make. The kind of gift that he can make in bulk and give to everyone like he did it personally. Nice, quick, and easy.

Which is why when he sees someone in the same shop pacing up and down the aisle as he agonizes over a crumpled up list, Taako sighs and stops. His purchases are chilling in a basket that he has levitating behind him on a spectral Mage Hand. The last thing he needs is on the other side of this guy and he's moving back and forth like a Wall of Force, stopping Taako from getting around him.]

Are you lost or have you been trapped by some sort of invisible wall that only you can see? Because if not, can I get by you?

Huh? [He stops and stares a second, mind taking a second to switch gears and process.] What?

Oh! Oh, yeah. Sorry. Go ahead.

[He takes a step to the side, mostly out of the way, though he's not abandoning this aisle. He's like, 60% certain what he wants is here. That's more than half certain!]

[Taako waits impatiently while the guy's brain catches up to his request, then steps around him and plucks his last item off the shelves. He drops it in the floating basket, and is about to leave when he remembers how the tree might also give him shit if he's nice to people. It's a hard decision and Taako stands there for a moment, debating in his mind, until he finally turns out and sighs.]

Alright, out with it. What has you all discombobulated or whatever?

[Prompto spends all of that time engrossed in his list, staring at it in hard concentration, as if what he needs to materialize if he waits long enough.

His head snaps up.]

Uh. Oh, shopping. For friends. I'm ... I want to be all thoughtful and stuff, but I'm drawing a blank on like, 90% of this list.

Nope. Bambi's a little deer from an oooooold animated movie back home. Poor thing ended up with his mom being shot by hunters. You know, I can't even remember if they ever showed his dad.

[It was still heartbreaking and he definitely cried.]

[He hesitates, lining up the shot, then lowering his weapon.]

[They've stopped off at the same area for shopping with plans to meet up later, but Prompto is taking longer than the planned amount of time. She might as well go find him.

With her own purchases stored safely somewhere else (don't question it), Kaname makes her way to a nearby diner type establishment, emerging a couple minutes later with a plastic bag. Next she head towards a large variety store. Seems like a good place to find him. After looking through some aisles, the singer spots a familiar blond hairdo.]

Hey. [Sneaking up on him isn't a good idea. Once he's heard her she goes over with a smile.]

You doing all right?

[He plasters on his biggest smile, hand with the list diving into a pocket. He's pretty sure he felt the paper rip.]

Hey! Yeah! Doing ... doing good! How's shopping?

[And is that food he smells?]

[That's why it's so frustrating!]

That would be awesome if I knew how to cook. Which I don't. Unless chocolate chip bricks are thing people eat in other worlds.

[He gives a little frown.]

And I swore to myself that I'd get a room at that castle to surprise Keith with for our anniversary. So between that and presents, moolah is definitely needed.

[Keith had been doing a combination of hunting and mining, plus finding the wish tree... which had apparently gone positively, judging by the adolescent-sized blue wolf pup that had been following him around lately.

He nodded as Prompto pointed out the creature in question.]

It's a good size. The number of points on those antlers means it's older, too. [He'd studied the information on how hunting worked around this place. Larger antlers with more branches, bigger animals, and try to go for males over females. Pretty basic, and definitely good for conservation of the animal species in question.]

Ready when you are.

[Keith was... well... not a great shot. So, he was letting Prompto do most of that work. He was helping with the other aspects.]

[Tim has been out here hunting on his own. The killing of animals was a little unnerving, to begin with, but he can see the necessity of it and that nothing is going wasted here while everyone is feasting. He's sticking to small game, laying traps and waiting among the treetops patiently.

He's seen Prompto earlier in the day but hadn't decided to approach until he saw him remove a camera to first capture the deer before shooting it. He'll wait till he's done before calling down.]

Do you photograph every animal before you kill it?

Oh. Happy anniversary! I'm trying to get the funds for the castle, too. Y'know, but for Kaname.

[Which means... He lifts the gun again and gets their target back in his sights.]

I don't like killing things either. But back home, we did this a lot - killing things for money.

[He doesn't like killing, but he feels calm as he breaths in, out, and squeezes the trigger. And when the deer drops, a surge of satisfaction.]

[He should have come up with a plan for gifts ages ago. He just, didn't remember what time of year it was.]

All of them. [He shows his list of names, full of question marks and scratched out ideas. Only a couple have actual items scrawled in next to them. "Kaname - Castle!!! & ????? jewelry????" and "Haggar - needs a hug". Messer's name is also there, underlined and circled many times over.]

[Prompto was okay doing the work. He nodded, sizing the deer up through the scope of his rifle. It really was a beautiful creature.]

Hope he lived a good one.

[The rifle bucked as he fired the shot. The deer jolted, staggered as if it might run, and fell.]

Now's the hard part. Got a sharp knife?

[The smell of gunpowder is still hanging in the air as he steps forward, then stops and looks around until he's spotted the source of the voice. He grins up at the figure in the tree.]

Just about! Good way to satisfy two passions at once, yeah?

Your passions? I presume the photo studio I found on the Iskaulit is yours then?

[He switches the gun out for his camera, flips it on, and hands it over.]

[There are only slight variations from one photo to the next, all of them focused on the animal in the distance. He was trying to get a good shot of the antlers.]

It's always harder to get a good shot when you're trying not to let the subject know you're there but always more satisfying when you finally get what you're after.

[Keith stared for a second.]

You're kidding, right?

[He smirked and pulled out his blade before standing up and heading over to the downed deer. He approached carefully, just in case, but it was definitely gone. He gave Prompto a quick thumbs up.]

Nice shot.

[Now to field dress it so they could get it back to town. Keith had gotten good at this part while on the space whale for two years. He and his mom had been in survival mode in some wilderness that had sprouted up on a slow-moving space creature that was massive enough to have its own ecosystem on its back.]
