[The Wonderduck has a visitor today. He's only a little over five feet tall, dressed in black robes, and looking curious and surly at the same time. An interesting combination. But he does come bearing gifts or bribes, however you might call it, and they are fresh and fucking delicious.

He's here to visit one person in particular, but he's also really nosy so he might... wander off into the kitchen to see what the ducklings have. His ship doesn't even have a spice rack. It's disgraceful.]

[Damn right. You admire their level three kitchen of glory.]

[But yes, when Kaneis had told him to swing by the Wonderduck when he could...he honestly did not expect the kid to take four days to do so. Since seriously, it kinda sounded like a matter of life and death from the way he described it. So by day four he was wondering if he should have written it off as the world's lamest prank, or that he should call Belth's ship to see if he's dead in a ditch somewhere. But. Surely his crew would've noticed that right? The Bishop seemed like a good enough ship]

[So, he'll be a bit surprised when he sees Belthazar in the kitchen with desserts]

Hey. There you are.

[arcanepower]

[He's sighing over the spice rack when Kaneis finds him. He nearly drops the plate of desserts, apparently startled, but he manages to catch it just in time.]

Oh, uh, yes. Hello.

[... Awkward.]

I apologize for taking so long. I-- [His ears pin against his dark hair.] -- I was nervous, and distracted myself until I forgot what day it was. I woke up this morning with a bad headache, so I knew it was time.

[He pauses, then holds out the plate.]

... Pastry?

[So awkward. He slowly looks at the plate of pastries, before shrugging]

...Sure.

[And he reaches out to grab one. It looks yummy oooo]

But seriously- you actually forgot to come? [KID...]

[They are very delicious, and still warm and soft and fresh.]

I just-- wanted to find an alternate solution. It took a few days and I came up short.

[His ears lower more, making him look a bit like a sulking kitten. He stops short of apologizing, though.]

[wilder]

[He just raises an eyebrow and decides to bite into his cake over talking. Of course Belthazar would be fixated on some other method, one that wouldn't rely on Kaneis. The kid screamed self-sufficiency issues. Not to mention that whole lack of trust in humans thing seems to run pretty deep in elves, especially if they've faced something like Belthazar did.]

[Ironic considering Kaneis wasn't even considered human by his people's standards- but hey what can you do? After all the encounters he's had with elves, he's really growing to accept the theory that elves just aren't good at telling humans apart - much less differentiating between angels and humans.]

[Superior mana sensing his ass.]

[Buuut whatever. He finally swallows. That's damn good cake]

Right. Well, I'm glad you came anyway- because this is delicious.

[And with that, he uses his free hand to wave Belth to follow him out of the kitchen while taking another bite of the cake.]

[Angels aren't even a thing in Azeroth, not really. Not the walking-among-mortals kind. It's complicated. He can tell Kaneis has mana but that's about it. He's far more interesting to his arcane sight when he's casting a spell.

The tiny elf is visibly relieved when Kaneis seems to like the cake. Not that... he cares what anyone thinks, of course not, but.]

It had better be delicious, or else I make a terrible chef.

[He follows Kaneis out of the kitchen.]

There must be a way I can pay you back if this works...

[He snorts at the remark about being a terrible chef and keeps walking towards the direction of his quarters.]

Even if I said you really don't have to? [Sure, maybe he could reasonably charge for them- but it's not like Belthazar is using it for something not essential. It was his life on the line here- he really had mixed feelings charging for something like that]

[Then again, maybe paying it would make Belthazar feel better. He could understand discomfort at charity]

[ Elize steps into the kitchen, having just left her room. Her eyes light up as her gaze first lands on the delicious pastries, then she looks up at the visitor. She doesn't recognize him at all. Probably a friend of someone else on the ship? She'd love one of those pastries, but she doesn't want to be rude. It might be for someone specific.

She greets him shyly. ]

Umm... hello.

[arcanepower]

[Belth has absolutely no idea how to react to kids. Honestly. He might look fifteen or sixteen, but he's at least sixty in human years and he ends up looking at her with the deer-in-headlights look for a minute.

Wait, she said something.]

B-Baladash. [Wait, that's not the right language.] I mean, greetings. Hello.

[GOOD JOB, BELFAZAR, NOW TELL HER YOUR NAME.

... Or he can stand there. And hold out the plate.]

I, ah, I made these for the ship. They are very delicious; I assure you I know what I am doing in the kitchen.

You made those for us? Thank you!

[ Even she's forgetting to introduce herself. Noticing the over-excitement in her voice, her cheeks begin to glow. Oops. It really does look delicious to her. She shouldn't let the poor guy stand there and keep holding the plate out like that. ]

You... can set it down somewhere.

[Yeah, blood elves aren't exactly charitable unless it benefits them in a big way. At least the big noble ones. Belth eyes him, though, as if he's half-expecting Kaneis to turn back on his word and demand egregious amounts of money.]

If you say there are no debts between friends I just might ice block and not come out.

[That's a joke, sort of.

... Sort of.]

It-- it feels strange to ask for something and not give anything in return. That isn't how the world works, you know? I suppose I could give you free pastries for life. I am going to live a very long time, so it's no trouble at all.

[He's assuming Kaneis is human...]

I did. It's-- it's no problem. [She's... so happy. And cute. And tiny. What do.

He sets the plate on the counter though, just within her reach, and hides his fingers beneath his sleeves again.]

This is my first time boarding someone else's ship, so I thought it would be polite. It is not uncommon to bring small gifts when visiting someone's residence on my world.

[After an awkward pause, he bows from the waist. It makes his long ears bounce in a funny way]

I am Belthazar.

[wilder]

Ha- no need for that. I wouldn't go that far.

[Calling people my friend? Hell no. But oh, some kid telling him how the world works that's just adorable. He looks plainly amused at the offer, since man, this guy does not realize in the slightest he just offered eternal servitude to an immortal, did he.]

[But he's not exactly one to advertise his immortality (people get so weird about that), so he'll point out the other flaw]

There's an idea, but- my kind doesn't really require food for sustenance. I mean, I certainly enjoy the occasional dessert- [holding up the dessert in his hand] - but I'm afraid I don't really need a personal baker for life.

[arcanepower]

[He's talking to an elf, but yeah. Shit. That's probably not a great idea. He's young, let him make mistakes.]

Your... kind?

[Belth leaps to the first possible conclusion.]

Do you feed from magic, too? Oh, no. I should have asked specifically, but it didn't occur to me. I don't want to starve you--

- You're not going to starve me, Belthazar. Any mana I need is naturally produced by my body, not unlike how a body produces its own blood, you know? As long as I don't use too much of it, I'm perfectly fine to use the excess mana how I wish. And since I'm not a novice mage, I know what my limits are.

Besides, the stuff I'll be giving you is stuff I can't really use anymore. So...don't worry about me, okay?

[That's a pretty sound argument, but it's in his nature to be contradictory. He reddens at the accusation of feelings, and his ears pin down against his dark hair.]

[... ah. He clears his throat awkwardly.]

Y-you can clearly handle yourself.

[oh my goddess Belthazar. You are the most adorable tsundere. Does his ears move around like rabbits?? Holy shit. It's hard for him not to laugh]

Right, right- of course. Of course!

[He clears his throat a few times and looks around the hall they are in in front of the quarters.]

Hmmm...okay...follow me, okay?

[He opens up the hatch to his quarters and - jumps down because why the fuck would you use the ladder when you take no fall damage? But he remembers to call up to Belth]

But you better use the ladder! I'm not fixing your arm again!

[ His ears are long and they kind of remind her of pink rappigs, her favorite animal. They're so cute! Though, she keeps those thoughts to herself. It might be rude to bring it up. He's different from a lot of the other elves she has seen on the fleet. ]

Welcome to the Wonderduck, Bel...thazar. [ A slight pause as she says his name slowly. She wants to make sure she says it correctly and she does. She smiles shyly. ] My name is Elize.

[ She toddles over to the counter, eyes lighting up again as she tries to decide which one she wants to eat first. ]

May I eat one now? I'll be sure to save some for the others.

[Yep. They are defnitely rabbitlike. Or rappiglike, if you're an Abyss or Xillia character.

He looks like he's considering jumping, but then Kaneis calls up from below and he makes a face.]

Ugh, fine. I'm using the ladder!

[He puts up with the teasing, but only just barely. At least he's not afraid of heights. Tap tap tap go his boots, and then he hops off the last step.]

... Oh. It's bigger.

[Yeah, the Wonderduck is loaded with upgrades.]

[OH NO, RAPPIGS. Yes, that's a very good point.]

That's right, [he murmurs, and he sounds a bit surprised. Usually non-elves have trouble with his name.] It's... uh... a pleasure to meet you, Elize.

I made enough so that everyone can have two. [A pause.] I think.

... I can conjure more.

[wilder]

[Sorry Symphonians just have rabbits that try to murder you. It's a thing]

[But yes good, he looks to make sure Belth actually is, before he turns and starts digging through his closet.]

Yeah. Got the bedroom upgrade a couple months ago. Nice to have your own space.

[He pulls down a leather pouch that looks like it came from Mor. Moving to sit on the bed, he'll pull out a glowing golden feather, and hold it out for Belth]

Here. These things are made of pure mana. See if you can use it.

[Belth glances around appreciatively. It's still smaller than his bedroom on Exsilium, but anything is better than living on the street. He can appreciate having personal space.

When Kaneis takes the feather out, his eyes widen. He reaches out to take it-- gently-- and then he inspects it. It glows softly in his hands, casting orange warmth where his green eyes do not.]

It's... amazing. How did you come by such a thing? Is there some kind of phoenix stowing away on the ship?

[JUST EAT IT ALREADY, YOU NERD.

Also did you just call Kaneis a bird? You did, didn't you.]

Or... wait, this is your mana?

[... Now he's just confused. He cranes his head around to see how, feasibly, he could shed feathers.]

[And he just...sits and watches, waiting as Belthazar works through his own conclusions. A phoenix being stored away is a new one! But at least he seems to come to the right conclusion eventually. He puts quite casually:]

I usually keep 'em tucked away.

[Belth is trying to make sense of this.]

... Like a paladin?

[SUDDENLY IT ALL MAKES SENSE.]

Paladins can summon forth wings made of light and mana, though it isn't a permanent thing.
