#004 [Accidental Video]

[it appears that the atroma is tired of one of its star ratings-grabbers not doing a damn thing. for the entire duration of april, hiro was fixing ships and running jobs for parts. for the month of may, he's been using those parts. he's currently working with black paint of some sort, with music playing from seemingly nowhere (looks like the sound system he kept talking about got completed).

[if you haven't sought him out, and you're not regularly training him, hiro's been completely radio silent while he's been working. in fact, he hasn't even answered text messages in a couple days.

[when he finishes coating the surface he's working on in the paint, he lowers the mask he's wearing and sighs, wiping (and smearing paint on) his forehead. he looks like a mess.

[but hey, at least he's alive!]

I suppose if there was a guy made of plants wandering around doing sinister things, then I probably would have been more likely to hear about it.

[Adachi eyes what little of Hiro's invention is visible on the screen.]

So what exactly is it? The thing that you've been working on.

[he moves the video down to view the bin. it's about 3 feet tall and rounded, looking much like a barrel.]

It's a hyper-composting bin. It should cut the time it takes to compost in half from a normal tumbling bin. We're looking at less than two months here. If I can find some kind of bacteria that helps the decaying process in a way that won't hurt the live plants, I bet I could cut that down even further.

Composting bin, huh? I thought... you said it was something to help with growing plants?

[You might need to break this down a little more for him Hiro. Adachi's not super literate on the processes involved in growing crops.]

Compost bins break down organic matter into fertilizer.

[he doesn't sound condescending when he explains it, but he does sound pretty proud of himself]

Where's the fertilizer going to go? I mean, the ships don't exactly have a gardening plot on them, right?

We've got everything set up for growing plants already. It's been in the works for a few months. This is just an improvement to the system.

[cabbagedetective]

Oh? So your ship is already outfitted with some kind of gardening space? Guess they don't exactly come standard issue. Pretty sure I would have picked up on that.

Mine doesn't, but there are some that do. The Tourist and Blue Fish especially. I made the grow lights for them back in March.

So then, master garden inventor extraordinaire, what's next on your to-do list? Sprinkler system?

[Adachi's clearly poking fun at Hiro, but, in truth, he is rather impressed with Hiro's efforts.]

Yeah, right. I've got bigger and better plans for the fleet than that.

Oh? Moving on to something else then? How about swimming pools?

Actually, that's not a bad idea. Or maybe hot tubs at the very least?
