[GOOD MORNING, DRIFT FLEET! You were probably not expecting to start looking at the communicator's feed with the loudest possible 'WOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH' as a young girl falls off the side of the bed trying to get up. When she gets up to dust herself off she pauses and fully looks around.

This is not her room. This is not Takshaka's dorm. This isn't even the camp in Cecilia's realm.

I hope you're ready for more screaming, fleeters.]

[Wait there's someone else to call now, too, not that she really stops to think about it.]

[Mom Alert! Really, how many more children is Atroma going to kidnap until the audience is satisfied?

Beverly holds up her hands up in a pacifying manner.]

Whoa, honey, slow down! You're not hurt are you?

[ Unfortunately, she's full-on gone to Rileytown and is in stranger danger alert. And doesn't think to look for a communicator/cellphone of any sort so kind of sliiides to corner and tries to get smaller.

But she's also a good child who always answers any questions: ]

[Okay that's good, not hurt, but still clearly very frightened. She keeps talking in a soft, soothing voice, hoping to calm the girl down.]

I'm glad. I know this is a little scary right now, but if you look around the room, following the sound of my voice, you should find a device that looks like a little computer, with a television screen on it. Can you do that for me?

[ 'Why am I such a listener' is something that vaguely goes through her head as she tries to take a deep breath. Riley would be scared, but Lark has to be brave. Right? Right.

She's still rather slow when she gets up to go looking for the device in question, but eventually finds it. ]

[She smiles warmly at Riley when she finally finds the communicator.]

Hello, I'm Dr. Crusher! What's your name?

Sweetie? Is everything okay?

[Axel grimaces and twists a pinkie finger in his ear.]

Yowch, kiddo, no need to shout. These things pick up sound just fine!

[ She's still shaking slightly, but Riley tries to think only about what's said and... Not all the other panicked thoughts running through her head.

Like, where is there a doctor on a facetime and is she being experimented on. She's not prepared for this. ]

[ Because both are important. ]

[ The least helpful response, but at least she's managed to find the communicator by now. But she's still trying to make herself as small as possible. Questions are easy though-- Sort of. In the sense that she quickly answers them, but the panic is bubbling. ]

I'm in a strange room. And there's a doctor. And I'm probably being experimented on as we speak.

[ It's another voice, aaah. At least she knows to expect more voices, but she also doesn't. At the same time. ]

If it did then how come they haven't answered? And how do I call the police?

The people you're screaming for probably aren't here. Not everybody shows up with friends in tow, unfortunately.

And I don't think the cops will make the trip to outer space. We've got a few security officers, though I'm not sure I'd wanna file a report with mine. [He kind of laughs at the image of trying to file a police report with Fenris.] Whaddaya wanna call the cops for, anyway? I mean besides the fact that you've been kidnapped from home and sent into outer space--you get used to that after a while.

Well... That's not very different from normal.

[ Given she was already kidnapped to another place and had been there for weeks with no one there. But she has Takshaka there and this is a giant lonely ship with people talking to her through strange devices. ] I'll find one file a report to. [ I have to. A pause and she continues. ] Your in outerspace and you don't believe you can call the cops?

....No.[ It's honest, at least. ] This could all be a dream made up by someone and they're watching it. Or they could be implanting me with weird viruses just from breathing.

Well, if it helps reassure you, I was in your same position a few months ago and never got any strange diseases or anything of the sort. So you'll probably be okay.

Ok, Rainbow [since that's the first name Riley used, that's the one Beverly's going to go with], take some deep breaths first. Do you know what you're on right now?

[The augment should be telling her she's on a starship but the poor girl is so freaked out she may not be making the connection yet.]

[ She's so thankful she has her earbuds still right now, and has already asked ALFRED to play some tune to help drown out the SCREAMING. Jesus. ]

Hey! Hi. Hey. How ya doin'? Don't answer that. Can you just calm down for a second?

[Wow, tiny child. You make so much loud noise and it's not great for vampire hearing. At least it makes finding her easy enough. Elena appears in the doorway after a few seconds.]

It's Lark. No one uses the colors, I don't know what they're there for anymore.m[ At least she can talk about these things, but she's also trying desperately not to think about the sudden flood of information and other things. ] I'm on the floor, but I was on a bed.

[ Pauses a moment and then continues: ]

And you haven't forgotten everything, either?

What should I yell about?

[ ARE YOU TELLING HER NONE OF YOU SCREAMED WHEN ARRIVING HERE? Really? She might have gotten up and just fallen over in surprise at the sudden voice not coming from the device. ]

I am calm!

[ which is. sadly. true for her. ]

[ At least the screaming died down when people started talking to her, but she kind of shakes her head at that. ]

It's not. I'm not in school, or with Maya talking about breakfast, or in the dorm playing games with Takshaka.

[ Her head cocks to the side, her expression plain and she obviously doesn't belief that. ]

Then use your indoor voice. Aside from the blatant and distressingly obvious, is anything else wrong?

Well, I guess we could call all we wanted, but unless we're in range of a planet or a waystation it wouldn't do much good.

[Beverly has no idea what she's talking about, but she'll worry about that later.]

[She takes a deep breath, bracing herself for more alarmed yelling.]

No, definitely not. Otherwise being a ship's doctor would get messy, to say the least.

[Elena purses her lips a little. She's not sure how old this kid is, but definitely too young to have to be dealing with this crap.]

[She moves over to one of the bunks and sits down.]

I know. But you're safe. Nobody here is going to hurt you.

[Which can't always be said in kidnapping situations. Take it from Elena. She is an expert at this point.]

[ The fun part is she practically single-handled created an entire land and species once now. The words your in space isn't that weird. But the more alarming part is being-- well-- alone. And it's why she's trying to very calmly not go to Rileytown. ]

Is this supposed to be a game by an Echo?

[ Strangely, even calming down it's more being alone that scares her. Of course, initial kidnapping is definitely terrifying-- but, in some ways, she's already been through that. But there she had Takshaka who pretty much called themselves a family and declared they would keep her safe.

This was different and scarier because she knows she's no good at things alone. She didn't have magic like the others or could fight. If someone did do something she was helpless and this was something she'd become all too aware of.

At least when Elena sits down she doesn't scoot back, but she also shakes her head at that.]

You don't know that. Everyone says that and then it goes all wrong.

[ It's a quiet but assert statement. At least the truth made things easier even if it was terrifying. ]

[Beverly half-shakes her head and frowns.]

I don't know what that is exactly, but I doubt it. We were brought here by a being named Atroma to be part of a television show.

[It is a pretty thin lie to say that things will be perfectly okay, but Elena means it as far as nobody here wanting to hurt Riley. She rests her elbows on her thighs, loosely clasping her hands in front of her as she leans forward a little.]

Everyone here is in the same situation you are. Things only go wrong when we stop working together and start working on our own or even against each other.

I've been here a couple of days and I've got the sense that everyone's really in it for each other, not themselves. I can't promise that nothing bad will ever happen, but whatever worst case scenario you think might happen, probably won't.

And I can absolutely promise you that I'll keep you safe. As best I can.

...An Echo put on a gameshow once. It was hosted by zombies.

Well, the good news is there are no zombies here.

How can you be so sure? We're in space.

[Last time she checked, space was not the usual haunting ground of zombies. But she can't exactly claim expertise on the subject so...]
