Who: James Potter.
Broadcast: Fleetwide.
Action: U.S.S. Paisley.
When: Now!
[ james has been aboard the Paisley (and quite enjoying himself!) for quite some time, but he's a little homesick. for one, he has no wand, which means he can't perform most forms of magic. james is a clever wizard, and has been trying to perform a bit more wandless magic. which is what he's doing now as the recording airs, showing james staring at a pen on the dashboard of the Paisley. which is wiggling.
yes. wiggling.
after a moment or two, james sighs and reclines in his chair, and the feed flickers off just to flicker back on, because this time, it's on purpose!]
Hello, good sirs, madams, and those who identify otherwise.
[ with a grin. james misses his friends, terribly. he misses his school. he wants to go home. but until he can achieve any of these things, he's a bit bored, so -- ]
Has anyone got a good story?

I figured, you can't really listen to a story without a good cup of tea.
action
Thanks.
[ pleasantly enough, and he takes a sip. ]
Pretty British of you.
action
[Teasing, for once, as he takes a sip from his own mug. There might be colonialization mixed in too, but he's not completely sure.] Though I'll admit, it's always brewed better there than in the US.
action
[ with a bright grin and half a laugh. he's heard horror stories, thank you very kindly.
he takes another sip of tea, tasting it out for a moment, before -- ]
I think it's different, too, with magic.
action
[He brews tea the old-fashioned way, because honestly - a vampire with magic is overkill, but also because his tea leaves replicate themselves. That's more than enough magic for him.] How would you make it, back home?
action
Everything is done with magic -- spells, in my house. The water, the heat, boiling -- it's all magic, so. Maybe the magic infuses the tea somehow.
action
[He folds his arms, as if seriously contemplating this...] I was gonna tell you a general story, but if we're gonna talk about magic, I've got a pretty good one about a friend of mine back home. She's an American witch, descended from the ones who practiced in Salem during the witch trials.
See, no one ever told her what rules and limits exist in magic, so sometimes, she'd achieve the impossible without trying.
action
but still -- ]
-- the impossible?
[ TELL HIM TELL HIM TELL HIM ]
action
See, Bonnie wasn't an ordinary witch. In our world, magic's self-taught, with old grimoires and relatives that teach you the basics. [He winces, knowing full well that he was partially (kinda) responsible for this...] Except, Bonnie's grandma passed away before she could lay down the law of the magical world.
So Bonnie learnt these spells that kids weren't supposed to at her age, like how to disable a vampire or locate people - and she'd just do it with a wave of her hand.
The freakiest thing, though, was how she could talk to the dead. Like actually sit down with the spirits of those long past - and those who'd yet to move on - and gain guidance from them. [Stefan frowns here, partially because his religion doesn't believe in an afterlife, but mostly because he doesn't quite feel emotionally connected to things he's technically seen.
That's the problem with being a reincarnation, he thinks: even when you're telling a story that happened to you, it still feels almost fictional.]
action
There's stories in my world, of being able to talk to the dead -- and Seers and the like, but it's a rare gift to have.
[ fairy tales and smoke and mirrors. ]
I'd love to meet your friend, though.
action
Stefan smiles, though it doesn't quite reach his eyes this time.] She's pretty great, yeah. It's supposed to be just as rare in my world, but somehow, she manages.
Beyond that, my stories are kind of boring. Think family mishaps and road trips that went pretty wrong.
action
[ james has quite a few, okay. ]
I don't think there's a family that exists that doesn't have a mishap every now and then.
[ some of them worse than others. sirius. ]
action
[Is he using that right? He hopes he is.]
So things that could be fixed with magic, like teleporting or levitating stuff, kind of take us forever otherwise. A lot of our mishaps come from things like, I don't know, driving in the wrong direction for four hours, or going to the wrong person's wedding...
[He takes a sip of his tea. Huh. That probably isn't something that can be fixed with magic, but details.] My family was great, but sometimes, I swear, it was like living in a sitcom.
action
I don't know.
[ with half a laugh, and james looks amused ]
Wizarding families are so... massive that you could go to the wrong wedding pretty easily -- my best mate, Sirius and I -- we're related. Second or third cousins, I think, somewhere along the line -- practically every pureblooded wizard is related somehow. And even without that -- and even with magic -- it's not so different in the end.
[ if they were so radically different, there would be no real end to the war in his world, after all. there's always common ground. ]
action; hover for translation
[He's grinning at the mental image of a wizard wedding - he's never been to one, but if they're anywhere near as massive as Jordanian weddings, he's in good company.]
Umi was so pissed at us... we were supposed to go to her best friend's kid's wedding, but we were with these random strangers for two hours. Kinda hard to know the difference, if you've never MET the best friend's kid to begin with.
action;
[ mildly.
james has a rather huge extended family, though he himself is an only child. tons of distant cousins, far off aunts... the potters themselves are pretty small, but then there's the weasleys, the prewitts, the longbottoms, and james' .... less appealing side of family. the malfoys, the blacks (sans sirius, of course.) ]
I think my mum would've adopted half the town if my dad would allow it.
[ sirius doesn't count. ]
action;
[He takes another sip of his tea.]
Umi used to be like that, and then my older brother had to go off and have a daughter. So I think she's too preoccupied to care. I hope?
Because last time I was home, she was way too focused on getting me married.
action;
[ james' mother, because james is her one and only, is super determined. ]
Especially only children, so count yourself lucky.
action;
Relatively lucky. I just called off an engagement when I was pulled here.
