[There's a new face on the network! Specifically a teenage girl's, curious but not quite sure of herself.]

[She pauses for a second before continuing, standing up straighter and speaking carefully.]

Um, if you can...good morning, everyone. My name is Shirley, and I suppose I'm new here.

I'm speaking to everybody now because I wanted to ask if anybody's seen a quill pen. I know I had it on me before they took me here yesterday, but it's disappeared since then. If it's not on this ship, then it should be on the big one...the HS Marsiva, I think. I'm on the SS Huntress right now, but I haven't seen it anywhere.

That quill means a lot to me, so I'd like to have it back if anyone can find it. Thank you very much, all of you.

[She hadn't expected him to go to the trouble, though her voice is grateful.]

Wasn't a bother.

[ He's bored, stir crazy, trying to find things to do while he looks for a way out of this show. Taking a walk around the ship isn't much to take his mind off things in the long run. ]

You probably lost it on the other ship. The Marsiva? But I don't think they're going to let us back in.

[hearsthesea]

[Shirley lets out an unhappy sigh. This is even worse than she'd thought!]

You don't think so? Why not?

Already tried myself. Granted, not through any usual means but if I can't get in, I doubt they'll let anyone in just because they asked.

[hearsthesea]

I see.

[She looks disappointed, although part of her still holds hope.]

It wouldn't hurt to ask in any case, even if I may not get the answer I want.

Yeah, ask away. [ He motions toward the console where she was already doing that. ] At least we can cross one place off the list.

[hearsthesea]

Right.

[She moves to send a message...it should be the ship they came from yesterday, right? She goes with that and quickly composes a message, although she can't help but think of how empty the Marsiva was.]

I hope somebody sees this.

Well, somebody will. That's kind of the problem with the whole show thing.

I guess we just wait for now. You find anything interesting around here so far?

[hearsthesea]

I looked around in the lab and the kitchen while I was searching this morning. Have you been to them yet?

Kitchen, definitely. Lab... sort of. I took a look. I know it's kind of what I'm supposed to do around here, but I'm not really a medicine sort of guy.

[hearsthesea]

Neither am I, but I want to learn. Everyone else on this ship will be depending on us if they get hurt...although right now, that's only one person.

I doubt there's going to be many more, either. Have you seen how big this place is? How many beds? We're probably overstaffed on medics right now.

[hearsthesea]

I wonder if they made a mistake, and one of us was supposed to be on a different ship.

[She'd originally guessed they were together because they were all new, but...maybe not.]

I doubt that.

[ Because that is literally just his luck. ]

Maybe they just expect us to get in more trouble than usual.

Oh, no, I hope not.

[Please don't let that be the case.]

We aren't expecting a lot of trouble now, are we?

No, but that's generally when the most trouble strikes. [ He speaks from pure experience here. ] As long as you're figuring out what everything in there does, I think we'll be okay.

[hearsthesea]

I'm doing my best. I'm thankful that the augments they put inside us help with that, or else it would be much harder to learn everything.

Yeah, I guess there's a bonus to them after all. Not that it's easy knowing I've got something plastered to my brain telling me who knows what all the time.

[hearsthesea]

No, it's not. But while we're here I can't say it hasn't helped...I think I would be lost without it.

[Yeah, there's a terrifying thought.]

That's true. At least no one's accidentally walked out of an airlock yet.

[Give her a moment to think about what that is.

[ Yeah, okay, he can't help it. Chris laughs. It's kind of a rare sound, an actual laugh instead of something soft and hidden or sarcastic or mocking. ]

I'm kidding. Those things are sealed up triple tight, just like on a ship or something.

[Shirley blushes - that was a little embarrassing.]

Right. That makes sense.
