Who: Shirley Fennes
Broadcast: Network; open video
Action: SS Huntress
When: Morning after the shuffle (1/03)
[There's a new face on the network! Specifically a teenage girl's, curious but not quite sure of herself.]
Can people see this?
[She pauses for a second before continuing, standing up straighter and speaking carefully.]
Um, if you can...good morning, everyone. My name is Shirley, and I suppose I'm new here.
I'm speaking to everybody now because I wanted to ask if anybody's seen a quill pen. I know I had it on me before they took me here yesterday, but it's disappeared since then. If it's not on this ship, then it should be on the big one...the HS Marsiva, I think. I'm on the SS Huntress right now, but I haven't seen it anywhere.
That quill means a lot to me, so I'd like to have it back if anyone can find it. Thank you very much, all of you.

No, it's something like a memento. I use it when I'm casting, too, but the memory is what's most important to me.
Video
No, I'm afraid I haven't seen anything of that sort. I know a lot of us lost stuff when we came here.
Video
[Wonderful. Shirley's disappointment is clear on her face.]
Has anybody ever gotten back what they lost?

[Sounds kind of cute, honestly.]
Does he have a name?
Video
And I'm Allen, by the way. What's your name?

[says this good looking, if not kind-of-weirdly-pale guy on the other end of the video feed.]
Ah--welcome to the ships, Shirley.
Video
Thank you. If it's been taken by Atroma, could there be any way to get it back?
Video
Well, some station has been playing lately that seems to be selling things familiar to the crews... I don't know if anyone's been able to get a call in yet, but I'd keep tabs on it anyway.
Video
That's very helpful. But, um...I'm afraid I don't know what you mean by a station.

[Shirley falls quiet for a moment, trying to figure his words out. The augment is helping, but all this technology is still mostly new to her.]
So I can use this device to listen to what they're saying?
Video
[at least he seems patient--not at all bothered by her questions.]
Just like you're listening to me right now.
Video
[That seems manageable. She's determined to make this work, even if it results in a dead end. Better to try and come up with nothing than to never know at all.]
So I have to do something similar to what I did just now...is there anything else?

Don't see it anywhere here.
action.
[She hadn't expected him to go to the trouble, though her voice is grateful.]
You didn't have to look.

[ He's bored, stir crazy, trying to find things to do while he looks for a way out of this show. Taking a walk around the ship isn't much to take his mind off things in the long run. ]
You probably lost it on the other ship. The Marsiva? But I don't think they're going to let us back in.

You don't think so? Why not?

[She looks disappointed, although part of her still holds hope.]
It wouldn't hurt to ask in any case, even if I may not get the answer I want.

[She moves to send a message...it should be the ship they came from yesterday, right? She goes with that and quickly composes a message, although she can't help but think of how empty the Marsiva was.]
I hope somebody sees this.
